I ran this game once before on here and it went quite well, the only potential issue being that the other player had to drop out for personal reasons. Now, I feel like trying again. So, without further ado, presenting the opportunity for a potentially non-combat game about interpersonal relationships!!
The System - Breaking the Ice
Breaking the ice is the first game in the romance trilogy. It's a 1 to 1 game, where the players join their characters on their first three dates and based on the results decide if the characters relationship will carry on. The game functions using a dice pool earned through use of character traits, conflicts and compatibilities. Each player takes it in turns to be GM in rotating scenes, providing problems that can earn re-rolls. In my experience its a fun, freeform and easy to learn system.
Character creation is also fairly unique; the characters are built though colour associations. Each player picks a colour, and then take it in turns saying what they associate their character's colour with until they both have 12 words from which to base traits. That means from the get go everything's cooperative!
The Pitch
It's hard to pitch beyond what's already been said and I'd be more than happy to play through a vanilla romance, though I had a few scenarios as teasers. Feel free to take a look through them and let me know if any take your fancy;
Two pokemon trainers are rivals who are both battling their way to take over all the gyms in their region. Over time, they keep running into each other and soon enough sparks start to fly. Will their relationship stay as just a rivalry, or will they become something more? (I've played this one before and I think it works quite well!)
Two mecha pilot aces from the gladiatorial arenas keep meeting in their downtime between fights, they decide to see where things would go if they met in their free time.
Two disaster prone travelers keep meeting as things persist in going wrong for them simultaneously, until they end up giving up and facing everything together.
Although if you have an idea you’d be interested in talking through let me know!
Adult Content or Controversial Themes
Despite the theme being romance and dating, I intend to use veils for anything more adult, but I think how soon they're implemented depends on the person and the tone. As a rule I’m here for the fluffy side of things, if I wanted the other side I’d go somewhere else, you know?
Game Duration and Post Frequency
Ideally at least 3-5 posts a week for a 1-1, but unfortunately I work a high stress job and won’t always have a chance to get on everyday. The game itself lasts for three dates, each of which lasts 6 turns divided equally for 3 chances as GM and 3 as an active character.
Player Experience
Is not required!
As I explained its rules are light. You don’t even need a copy of the rulebook, I’m happy to explain the criteria for rolling dice and we do character creation together anyway!
How to apply
Just post your interest here or if you’d rather send me a PM. I’m pretty open with this kind of thing. Try not to come with clear ideas about your character though. Probably first come first served, but I’m open to talking things through.
Marginalised groups
Are welcome. As a member of the LGBT community myself I like to include marginalised groups where I can. For example; I’ll probably be playing a female character, so if you wanted to as well then I see no problems here.
And that's the pitch! I'm looking forward to seeing what goofy romcom and shojou sparkle situations we can get ourselves mixed up in!!
