3. The Meeting

Calmly, but resolutely, Geoffrey responds. That in no way detracts from what I said, m’lord. My life’s calling is, and always will be, to provide the blessings of the Moonmaiden to those who brave the darkness. Does it matter that the proximate cause of my appearance was the burgermeister? The supplies needed to spread the light of Our Lady of Silver are neither cheap nor free. That does not restrict to whom the blessings may be directed. Only the Night White Lady herself controls whether or not I may channel her divine gifts.

So yes, I was on the road at the behest and bequest of the burgermeister. Why does that matter? For that matter, what is it that is seems to be troubling you so intently? Have you considered that our Lady of Silver had me sent to the burgermeister simply to meet with you?
OOC:
Remember Geoffrey’s traits. He is absolutely convinced that he is beloved by Selûne and thus retains his equanimity even in difficult situations. He will be careful not to stupidly antagonize anyone, but he will not compromise in his beliefs even if it means his death. He knows he will be welcomed into the Gates of the Moon with open arms.

Very annoyed Lord Tom Collin shouts, "For heavens be quiet, or I will have you strung up and left for the wildlife to enjoy." He looks to both the others with more attention on Garrosh that hasn't spoken. It shouldn't take too much of a genesis to figure out that asking anything of Tom Collin brings his rapid ire.

Well, well. Someone woke up with a catoblepas in his tent. Asks questions but doesn’t like the answers and has the patience of a halfling chasing a thri-kreen at full gallop. Whatever you will with my life, oh Lady of Silver. Prudently, Geoffrey does not respond, picks up his wine glass, and takes another sip.
OOC:
Geoffrey considers whether he can glean from the voice and body language of Collin’s outburst if the threat of cold-blooded murder is real or some form of bluster and facade. Insight Check

Geoffrey considers whether he can glean from the voice and body language of Collin’s outburst if the threat of cold-blooded murder is real or some form of bluster and facade. Insight Check. This is your second use in about 12 seconds of real time.

Insight is NOT to be used as a detection means. It is not to be used for every other statement you ever hear. Tom Collin anger appears rather real. Unknown to Geoffrey, Collins has killed people just for crossing him. Tom Collins is a bandit leader. Not a goody good two shoes person.

OOC:
OK. How often to roll skill checks is completely up to the DM. I am used to DMs that want players to roll as often as possible. Your table expectation is different, fine. That’s what I meant about getting used to your style, which is more difficult when being dropped in to the middle of an existing adventure without being eased in. In game terms, as you yourself mentioned, Geoffrey the character is unaware of everything that has transpired, such as the foolish paladin charge that resulted in the massacre. I, the player, know it because I read the background, and so I am trying to get my character to know it without resorting to meta gaming. Hearing a threat of murder, it is eminently reasonable for a character to consider "was he blustering or was he serious". This is precisely what the insight check is for (see PHB under WIS skills). If that poses an impediment to your table style, please let me know your expectations so that I may better conform to them. For example, what would your preferred method be for my character to determine if Collins really is a cold blooded murderer, being that all he knows is that 1) there is some minor banditry on the road and 2) he has been "captured" by a professional group of people who do not appear to be (were not described as) thugs. I’d like to work with you as seamlessly as possible, obviously.

Having already told Tom everything he wants to know the forester sits back and looks at the scene unfold.
OOC:
Davros told everything about himself as soon as he sat down at the table, so he's not going to repeat himself if not asked directly.

Awaiting Tom, "Well Half-Orc. Do you not have a tongue? Your partner says he was looking for bandits and this other is hired priest."
Aug 18, 2024 5:55 pm
Garrosh shrugs, "Not much to say really, was brought in to deal with a few bandits; found a small mercenary company instead, meaning outside my pay-grade. Since you're leaving soon though, The Burgermeister will probably be happy enough with that.", then he thinks for a second, "Actually, since you are leaving, can you tell anything about the orc's? I know you have some sort of treaty, but I assume it wont matter once you're gone."

Lord Tom Collin seems for a moment distract and there is a slight awkward pause before he clearly speaks in a semi commanding voice and asks a rather strange question out of the blue, "Tell me about this lost girl that your others have brought into town today."
Aug 18, 2024 6:43 pm
Geoffrey looks away from Collins and at the other two participants, raising his eyebrows in question. He knows nothing about any lost girl, but has wizened up and is not going to say anything unless directly addressed.

Davros face gets slightly serious Well, on the road we found a ravaged horse carriage and while looking trough it, we found a human survivor, a blonde human girl named Tracy She was hidden by her parents in one of the crates that survived the attack, honestly.... Her parents did everything to keep her safe, I don't even know should I call her circumstances lucky or misfortunate.... Her father's corpse has already been transported to the settlement, he tried to call for help until his dying breath, her mother... Well... She was nowhere to be found, probably taken by the orcs. he sighs heavily remembering the kid and how shaken she was There was some orcish writing on the side of the carriage in white paint and found some orc tracks near the sight, so our conclusions aren't a wild guess

Lord Tom Collin looks outrage and shouts mainly to himself, "They wouldn't not DARE!" Seeming on a que, bandit Johnson is in the tent with weapon drawn.

Collin turns to Johnson, "Call all to arms. We leave in two hours." Wordless Johnson leaves the tent while sheaving sword.

Collin looks to the three, "What to do with you."

Geoffrey, intuiting that matters are reaching a head, finishes his wine and takes the opportunity to nourish himself. Who knows what Collins has in mind for them? Almost anything is better faced without hunger pangs.
