1. Start

Each party member arrived in Duker later after sunset. (means of arrival was free). So be it on foot, wagon or other means and late each was in luck find an inn just inside town. That is of course after each passed through the wooden gate. Almost all of the more recent parts of the town are wooden and only the most old parts are stone. (Everyone has 30 days room and board as well as food paid by your dear standard of living. If you don't have one well you get one night and meal free. That expires before morning.)

Strike Inn is nice place with a bar and dining area included. It is considered the best inn in Duker. Currently it isn't too busy at all. It does have a sign saying "Bad Manners not allowed." Party can't really see how that is enforced but it seems to be true as each have entered.

(Party members have a brief time to explore or sleep before morning and going to the Burgermisters Hall which was close time each arrived.)

At the gate you were informed that armor and weapons wore is fine. Fights with weapon is severely punished. Use of magic that causes harm is also severely punished as well. Severely punished can be lose of items and imprisonment. Such is decided by the Burgermister. You get the idea Burgermister has a lot of pull.

Goal: Are you ready to help the town and get the road safer? Posting in neighboring towns have appears. The town Duker is in trouble. Duker lays long a river and is long between two large towns. It survives soul'ly on trade rough through it. What bandits and non-human monsters are raiding its roads.

Start: The Burgermeister has posted for help. And your it. All PC are not from this town. You have arrived at the town overnight and wake up to go to the town hall to speak with the Burgermeister for the notice.
By chance, you all are arriving at the Burgermeister's Hall at the roughly same time.

Obviously, he is human and about 6'2" tall. A lean man but with some muscle on him. His name is Mark Degrace. He is known to be a swordsman besides running this place. A fair man but forceful in nature. He rules alone and has no wife or kids.

This is a simple room with enough chairs to suit all. Unfortunately, it is all HUMAN size. Room is lightly furnished. Mostly like used often by the Burgermeister. All say the place is a touch spare as the Burgermeister is a scourge on the coin.

You know the Burgermeister hasn't the coin to pay for soldiers and such. He has little to offer. This is a charity job. Best you can hope for is free goods and lodging. And of course, anything you happen to find while doing this is yours. Dead raiders and Orc don't bother the Burgermeister one bit.

It is a clear sunny morning and fine time to get started. The spring weather hasn't brought rain today. Temperature isn't so hot or chilly. Least it isn't muggy like the last few days. Be an excellent day to get out and travel.

"Good to see you made it here. Surely the roads will be safer now. Damm Orc's and raiders have been a problem."

"Might be best if you all introduced yourself a bit. Surely I can't."

Spraint grabs the back of the chair with two hands and, in one smooth motion, pulls himself up on the seat. Still standing, he bows formally. "Burgermeister Degrace, my name is Spraint Treefellow, I have traveled far but I am ready to make your road safe any way I can. The evil doers will pay." The halfling taps the hilt of the long sword in his belt scabbard. "My blade is at your service."

Davros makes a mental note about haflings strength, should the fella be dangerous, i should probably hang my hammock a bit off the ground. After turning his eye and looking at the half-orc and the gladiator, he is quick to change the note Much higher than the ground... At least until they either prove themselves worthy or reveal their true colors, for better or worse...I unfortunately cannot this chance slip past me.

He nods after the man now known as Spraint stops talking acknowledging his words as the truth. Agreed... I'm Davros Pine. I sincerely hope that after this is over with, you will find my skills worthy of joining the local community as a forester. he looks the Burgermeister in the eye, searching for any signs of humor in his eyes. The ranger would like to discard such a possibility given the party gathered, but having had quite a bit of experience he still chooses to be alert around the man sitting behind the desk.

"Name's Garrosh" The Half-Orc grunts from his place leaning on the wall. "I'm mostly here to loot whatever group is attacking the roads, surprisingly good money in raiding raiders." A beat later he adds "If that happens to make travel safer, then all the better."

A forest gnome is perched on top of one of the chairs. Despite sitting on her bundled outer clothing, the gnome still has to look up at a majority of those in the room. With her cloak out of the way, the handle of a sheathed dagger and a wand are visibly hanging from her belt.

She points to herself. "Selbi! Saw the post at the next town over. Hope knowing a trick or two about putting people to sleep will help with the bandit problem."
Apr 24, 2024 7:09 am
"Is there any particular place on the road that the bandits are fond of? I’d take great pleasure in ambushing the ambushers." Spraint’s smile is not pleasant.
Apr 24, 2024 7:39 am
Noticing that Spraint is both clearly taking charge and asking the right questions. The ranger leans back into the chair, listening in and trying to make a conclusion or two.

A Stout Halfling stands off to the side with a calm demeanor, but upon mention of fighting she has begun to fidget in place.

"Sister sent me here saying it would be good publicity, didn't mention anything about fighting raiders though. When do we start? Are there a lot of them?! I was starting to stiffen up from the trip here."

She's begun to stretch and move about as if warming up for a workout.

"Estelle by the way."

"She does make a good point", speaks up Garrosh, "Do we have any clues as to how many raiders we're dealing with or what kind? Or have there been no survivors from their attacks?"

Soon the rangers eyes begin to wander around the room, trying to locate a map somewhere. Ideally if it's the map of the local region with the road in question and local landmarks.
OOC:
local landmarks - referring to exceptionally big trees, or a specific boulder, abandoned or not house/ hut or campsite along the road.

He smiles. Seem the raiders hit randomly but usually a day or two from here. We are unsure of the numbers but enough to take out a simple armed wagon as we have seen.

He has a very much business way about him.
Apr 27, 2024 6:47 am
"Burgermeister, are any caravans leaving town today? We could secretly follow it, or hide inside a wagon. Or both."
Apr 27, 2024 4:00 pm
I'm sure anyone leaving surely take you on as guards and most likely you would encounter raiders. Except no one right now is leaving here. Just this morning we have put up post of no travel till this raider matter is settled. I have soldier coming but it may be weeks before they arrive.

"Any idea as to what we're looking to be up against? There anybody who can tell us about the raiders first hand?"
Apr 28, 2024 2:35 pm
"Or do the raiders leave no traces behind, the armed wagon seemingly disappearing from this material plane?" The gnome clasps her hands together.

"Then, asking around if anyone needs to leave despite the order? And being the only ones on the road so that the raiders are definitely drawn out, but keeping an element of surprise..." She nods in agreement with Spraint's suggestions.
Apr 28, 2024 4:18 pm
From what we have discovered, the raiders are orcs and humans. They both do raiding but never together. Like there is some kind of agreement between them. Perhaps you can use this to your advantage. We have not discovered who is leading either of them.
Apr 28, 2024 8:03 pm
"That means that they likely have different base camps, and we likely want to take them out one at a time. Unless anybody think we'd be able to get them to turn on each other?"
Apr 28, 2024 10:00 pm
Davros sighs... on one hand killing them would give a guarantee.... On another... I can gain some bothersome enemies.... he scratches his head , clearly annoyed by the dilemma... Are they some sort of an organization or just a pair of wild gangs run by the strongest member?

Do they usually attack from the woods or just stop carts on the road? Have you been recording the locations of their previous attacks?
OOC:
organisation in this case could be a cult or a rebellion party. Or something....
