Dieter gasps as his soul returns to him in a rush. He's cold, from his head to his toes.

But he's back.

Carcabob says:
"Ida, there you are!" Stella enters the reading room and glances between her and Stephan and smiles. "Hi Stephan. Studying each other?" Her eyes widen. "W-with! Studying with each other!" She clears her throat awkwardly.
Ida feels heat rise in her ears but on the surface doesn't react to the slip of the tongue.

Carcabob says:
"Can you cast Sending to him?" She hands her a scrap of paper. "I...wrote out what I wanted to ask him."

Taerom, Stella wishes you well and asks how rebuilding the smithy and creating the antidote are going. May the stars shine upon you.
" That shouldn't be a problem" Ida seems to be more aloof again speaking with the other member of the party very matter-of-factly, almost business-like. She grabs her reagent pouch out of her backpack and finds the thin copper wire she keeps in it. She twists the wire into a crude hammer shape as she whispers the words on the paper. "Hopefully he received that and I will find you at the inn to let you know if I get any word back." She

Stella beams at Ida. "Thanks! You're the best. Um, good luck with the studying!" she says to both Ida and Stephan and slips out, trying to avoid causing any further accidental embarrassment.

Stella gasps feeling how cold Dieter is becoming. "W-what? What is happening?" Miss Mirrorshade...or Ida! Either of them could help!

Stella hurriedly draws a constellation of a bear. She's nearly finished, about to transform so she could carry him, when he gasps and wakes.

The stars hanging in the air vanish and Stella leans in, feeling his forehead with the back of her hand to feel if the warmth is returning. "Dieter! Are you okay?" she repeats her eye-stars a mix between amber and blue, relief and fear. "Y—you were...you were dying. I'm going to get Ida, okay?"

his eyes snap open and he flinches at her touch. He reaches for his sword but luckily his sword is on the seat next to him rather than his hip. He slowly comes to his senses "…Stella, is that you? D-don’t go, please"

Stella flinches as Dieter reaches for his sword, preparing to cast Shield.

With her brow creased with concern, Stella stops and nods.

She then snaps her finger, summoning Noctalia on the table. The bird tils her head and hoots. "Please fetch Ida," Stella says, mentally sending directions to the reading room. The bird hops into the air and quietly flies off.

She then takes one of his cold hands in her own warm hand. "Let's get you by the fire. You're freezing...Literally. You have several signs of frostbite. What...what happened?"

Dieter tells Stella about everything. He tells her about the druids, the wolf, the blood painting, the tunnel, the Druid in the tunnel, his dream or whatever it was, even him crying. Dieter tells Stella everything

Stephan, face red, tries to act casual. "Yep, just studying with our chothers."
Jan 25, 2024 11:08 pm
Stella listens as she leads him to the fire and sits him down and sits next to him, continuing to hold his hand if he wants it for comfort.

So the shadow wolf was a druid, not just a summoned creature, ther to make certain the mine was destroyed...that made sense.

She shivers as he describes the events. Her eyes-stars flare orange and her nose and lips twitch in anger. How could they use their gifts, the powers of the primal world itself for such carelessness for sentient life...It was atrocious.

She frowns as she realizes something.
So...you painted blood on yourself and called yourself death...I would have thought you a servant of the Iron Throne and Bhaal too..." She keeps her mouth shut, however, and continues to listen until he finishes.

"That's...that's horrible! Dieter, I'm so sorry..." She pauses and shakes her head. "These definitely aren't just suppressed memories...Calliope's father had magically supressed memories and rediscovered them later with help...but he didn't start losing his life force when they were brought back, painful as they were. What you have..." She grimaces slightly and gestures in the air. "...This is either some kind of curse, or some side effect of dying and being brought back to life...You remember Kay? Her father, Jhonen, was cursed and basically became undead, losing the essence of his life force for a time. I doubt it's the same thing, but...I wonder if it's similar in any way. We should tell Ida about this, then talk to Miss Mirrorshade is she doesn't know."

Stella taps a page in one of her tomes with a pen and begins scratching notes.

"Some of this doesn't make any sense, though...Why would the druid ask you who you were when she already knew who you were...? And your sister you forgot about...Ada. Is she that druid? Or do you think your mind is just tying the events together?"

After a few minutes, there's a pecking and hooting at the door of the reading room. When either Ida or Stephan open the door, they see Stella's owl. It looks at them, flies away a bit, then turns back, as is beckoning them to follow them to the common area where Deiter and Stella sit by the fire.

"I don’t know, it’s so much….do you think the Druid is my sister? I always thought I escaped the forest on my own…what if I didn’t. She said ‘if you’re death then you’re a failure’ how does she know that?. I assumed she knew my name from us travelling but didn’t recognize me with the blood.

I know how it looks but I was just trying to gain a psychological edge since I was by myself. Fighting is more of a mind game- sorry sorry you probably don’t want to hear about that"
Dieter says letting everything out.

"I think this is all just getting to me. There’s just so much death, I know you all fight too but when I fight I feel them die as my blade cuts through them. So many people have attacked us and I’ve killed them all. It’s makes everything else so hollow. The hours of my life I’ve spent training seems… tarnished. The fantasy of fighting evil is gone replaced with the reality of war. I think I have failed." Dieter vents
"I’ve failed. The only thing that seperates me from the servants of Bhaal is the law."

Ida gets a bad feeling as Stella's familiar comes in instead of herself. Ida shoves the books in hand on the closest flat surface before moving quickly to follow the familiar "Stephan I think something happened. follow me quickly and quietly as you can please." Ida hurries along the corridor to the common area

Stepping into the common room Ida sees Stella holding Dieter's hand as they talk quietly. Ida immediately notices how pale and sickly Dieter looks. The only other time Ida had seen Dieter like that was when Tulfgyr introduced her to the small frail boy who had escaped the forest and was living feral by her uncle's cabin before he had been taken in. Still walking quickly she comes in and sets herself beside deiter
Victor.Strokov says:
"I’ve failed. The only thing that separates me from the servants of Bhaal is the law."
Ida doesn't know what they are talking about but sadness pierces her heart. She remains stoic though as she quietly looks over Dieter. Was he poisoned? Why was he so cold? He had been fine when Stephan and her had gone to the library. She didn't see any food or drink. Her mind begins racing as she examines the boy. She takes off her cardigan and places it gently over Dieter "Dieter... what happened?" She also looks up at Stella for some answers as she channels her patron to heal or remove poisoning from the boy usure what happened

Stella gives an extended shrug. "If she was the shadow wolf, you could ask Ida to cast Sending and ask her?" she suggests. "I can help you compose a message if you'd like. "

"Same. But...well..." Stella holds up out her hands, palms upwards, and teeters side to side. "Maybe it was a 'Who are you?' Like, disbelieving. You were painted in blood and calling yourself death, acting like an insane zealot of Bhaal and servant of the Iron Throne, whom she and the other druids hate with the passion of a thousand burnings stars..."

"Ah, right...Aiwë joined in once or twice, and I can't blame either of you at this point...but...I do still worry about you." She nods as he continues.

Stella draws her lips to a line, thinking. "And why do you serve the law?"

"Ida!" Stella stands, continuing to hold Dieter's hand. "We...aren't quite sure. Deadly introspection? He has some memories—I'm guessing magically suppressed—that started to surface when he faced the shadow wolf druid in the mines, and..." She glances at Dieter. "He said the memories turned into a kind of comma nightmare and...he started dying. Growing ice cold. Life force leaving, like some kind of curse."

"oh Ida..I was Y’know… Sinning…" Dieter says whipping his face "no I was attacked I think…mentally. Now I’m confused ….emotionally" he says lifting his hands slightly as if caught in a crime

" I don’t, well I do but not intentionally I don’t base my morals on government institutions but on my own conscious and the teachings of my ancestors. I serve you. I serve you, Aiwë, Runeson and the rest of us. Those that oppose you fall by my blade. It just so happens that those that oppose us also oppose the law.

Ida goes into her mind to try and make sense of what Stella and Deiter have told her.

Feature: Researcher
When you attempt to learn or recall a piece of lore, if you do not know that information, you often know where and from whom you can obtain it. Usually, this information comes from a library, scriptorium, university, or a sage or other learned person or creature. Your DM might rule that the knowledge you seek is secreted away in an almost inaccessible place, or that it simply cannot be found. Unearthing the deepest secrets of the multiverse can require an adventure or even a whole campaign.

Stella tilts her head. "And why do you serve us?" she asks simply, genuinely interested.

Carcabob says:

"because Tulfgar asked me to. Well specifically he asked me to help you and keep you safe in your journeys. " Dieter replies.

Ida pipes up a look of sorrow in her eyes uncharacteristic of her interactions with Deiter "I've known Tulfgar my entire life and our cousin is a good Dwarf. He sees you as a capable warrior but he wouldn't want this adventure to cause you this much angish. I know it has only been a few years that we have known you but Tylfgur trusted you and saw your potential. I know I have been harsh and unkind, but I am starting to see what Tylfgyr and Tulfgar have. She places her hand on Dieter's hand (the one not occupied by Stella.) "I do have a spell which I came across when I adventured with Tulfgyr which allows me to evoke thoughts from the person I choose. I could use it to pull memories and ideas from your mind... I just don't like using it... it feels so invasive" She looks up into Dieter's eyes "If you allow me I may be able to help you remember, or at least let you know if your memories have been warped by magic."

"I-I trust you, I think we should do it….does it put me back in there?" Dieter says looking down at Ida.

"Just be careful, you might see things..terrible things."Dieter warns
