Initiative - (1d6)

(5) = 5

"Never trust a statue!" shouts Ricard as he fumbles to drop his spear and draw his enchanted blade...
Sep 15, 2025 9:33 am
Pickles eyes widen in wonder as the statue starts to shift, "Wow! My cousin Krustallos got turned into a crystal statue by a Bog Witch when he made a deal with her. We just kept him in the hallway and hung coats on him, he was never this cool. Even when he wasn’t made of crystal."

Statue Skirmish - Surprise Round
I’ll let you keep Horath’s promising initiative roll, but first things first - the statue gets a surprise round.

Having examined the statue and the room so carefully, and convinced yourselves that the statue was just, well, a statue, you’re all caught flat-footed as it lumbers towards you with surprising speed. A bludgeoning left-hand comes crashing down towards Ricard, quickly followed by a thumping right to Johann …

Statue Skirmish - Surprise Round
Both blows connect, and mighty blows they prove to be, the statue’s fists landing with full force. Ricard is robust enough to take the hit, but poor Johann is knocked clean off his feet and sent flying, lifelessly, across the room, his torch falling to the floor.

Before we roll for initiative in Round 1, does anybody want to declare any spells (Gabbro? Luther?) or melee movement (Ricard? i.e. a fighting withdrawal or retreat)? Only Ricard is engaged in melee currently.

OOC:
If possible, Gabbro is going to try to move around the edge of the room to get a clear shot at the statue without teammates standing between him and the statue. Ideally, he'd end up within a couple of steps of the southern door.
Gabbro tries to break off a piece of the statue with a sling stone.

Statue Skirmish - Round 1
OK, first things first. Let me roll initiative for the living statue in round 1. The Hellions (Horath) previously rolled a 5.

I'll be kind and say that although the dead Johann dropped his torch, it's still lit and providing sufficient illumination to allow you to fight.

Statue Skirmish - Round 1
The Hellions win initiative!

Horath steps up alongside Ricard and swings his mace at the statue. Unfortunately, it’s a weak attack and fails to inflict any damage. The same is true for Gabbro’s sling stone; it bounces straight off the statue’s crystal body, leaving barely a scratch.

However, the injured Ricard shows exactly how it’s done, his sword digging deep into the statue’s torso, sending crystal fragments pinging in all directions. The statue momentarily takes a step back to steady itself, but, to your dismay, it’s clear that it’s going to continue to fight.

Holding for Pickles' and Luther’s actions …

Ouch! Another crushing blow connects with Ricard, injuring him still further. On a more positive note, Luther neatly sidesteps the statue's follow-up.

Let's move to Round 2. For starters, please let me know if any of the melee combatants (Ricard, Luther, Horath) plan to withdraw or retreat, or whether anyone would like to cast a spell.

Ricard is pretty beat up and this statue obviously has a good THAC0, he's considering sounding the retreat... Thoughts?
