You are travellers on a road trip in eastern Finnish countryside in late august. The sun is setting and you are in the middle of nowhere nearby a swamp and forest when your car starts acting up. You see adds for a log cabin camping site near the road. The adds seem dated and when you pull your car over the side road and walk the rest of the way you see that the camping site is even more so. Crumbling, rusty, dated, old and probably built around the 80’s. It’s quiet but gladly you see a lantern lit up on a porch of a small barrack. On the porch there is a kiosk counter with dated ice cream adds and next to it a carved wooden bear statue that holds a sign: "Iilves Camping - Reception".

Okay, you have pulled your rental car on the small dirtroad leading to an old log hut renting camping ground. The walk from your car was about 500 meters through the forest. You arrive at the log hut village through an old wooden gate that's open. At first glance it seems abandoned but then you see a lantern lit up on a porch of a small building. You see old ice cream adds and a carved bear holding a sign: "Iilves Camping - Reception".

Team building my arse, he thinks grumpily as he steps on the porch. The wooden floorboards protest under his considerable weight.

Dalvin is a 60 year old big bear of a man, still reasonably fit for his age. His misanthropic nature normally steers him well away from exercises of this nature. But the stupid new management, influenced by these ludicrous new Psychological research pieces from across the Ocean, have enforced this one on all the staff, old and new.

Only thing this stupid trip builds, is the bank account of the idiot who came up with it. Bah!

He looks around, then turns to the others. "This place looks old. But at least it's shelter. We don't wanna be out there when the sun's gone."

Greta rolls her eyes at Arnarson.

Jeez, well thank you Sherlock!

"Well...what do you think Mr Heikkinen, sir? Shall we stay here?" Greta turns to Heikkinen and points her thumb at door.

She has been trying to impress Heikkinen during the trip here, using tricks her friend Bjorn taught her from a Youtube influencer he follows. She really hopes it is working, as it is exhausting and the tiredness shows in her slumped shoulders and voice.

Mikko fishes out his packet of cigarettes, plucks a smoke from the wrapping and lights up.
How many hours were they in that car? He didn't dare ask if he could smoke during the drive. These science-nerd types would probably have said yes, but then they would likely also resent him, and maybe even grow suspicious.

He kicks himself once again for filling out the paperwork wrong. He'd never have signed up for this if he knew...

Mikko stands tall and fit (despite his smoking habit). He has a camera in one pocket, and a notebook in the other. He tries not to scowl as he looks around.

"Are you sure you don't want to take another look at the engine?" Mikko asks Dalvin, mostly in jest at this point. The thought of sleeping on a plank of wood in a cabin in the middle of nowhere makes him feel sick.

Mikko rubs out his spent cigarette on the bear statue thing.
OOC:
How's the weather? Any fresh footsteps or any other indication than the light that people have been here recently?
Dec 13, 2023 9:08 pm
Greta watches as Mikko stubs his cigarette out on the bear statue.

"Ya know Mr Alexander, that is so not appropriate," the snark in her tone is easy to hear, as is the look of disapproval. "and like those things will give you cancer. Then you'll like die. In like lots of pain. So yeah."

Greta turns back to the cabin's doorway.

"Maybe you should like knock or something Mr Arnarson?"
Dec 13, 2023 10:42 pm
"Maybe I'll have another go in the daylight," he answers to Mikko. Then gesturing in the direction of the car, "but if you want to, be my guest. Your eyes are better than mine. "

He glances at Greta, the annoying youngster. But this time she is right.

With a grunt, he steps to the door and knocks loudly.
"Hello? Anyone there?" he calls.
Dec 13, 2023 11:21 pm
Mikko looks at Greta with feigned seriousness.
"What? You mean I might hurt this bear's feelings?"
Mikko slaps the bear a bit and mockingly talks to it, "Hey, Mr. Bear! Hey, you don't mind a little cigarette ash on you do you?"

He flicks the dead cigarette out into the growing gloom.
"At least I'm not the one relishing the idea of another's cancer and pain."

He takes a big breath.
"I... I shouldn't have said that. It's been...a long day."

Mikko turns and ranges about, not out of eyesight from the others, but far enough, to get a lay of the land.
OOC:
How many cabins are there in total? What sort of condition are they in?
I'm curious, does Greta believe his apology?

You see at least 5 cabins in a circular formation. Some of them are falling a part (missing a piece of roof etc). Some seem like they are in working condition.

The weather is cloudy but otherwise okay, a bit breezy but that is to be expected as the autumn is starting. The leafs of th forest trees that surround the log cabins are yellow and orange, some trees have already dropped their leafs. Pine trees are dark green though, rising higher in the midst of the leafy ones.

It's pretty dark already and you've been sitting in the car for at least 2 - 3 hours. You have no service in your phones and are quite lost.

On the other side of the clearing theres a path that leads further to the forest. Down the path you see a lean young man (boy?) of maybe 15 - 20 years approaching. He seems to notice you and stops. He has messy tangled black bush of hair and he seems to be wearing a dark jogging jacket with white stripes and baggy jeans. In his right hand he carries something that seems to be a dead crow, hanging it from the neck. On his other hand there seems to be a knife.
Dec 14, 2023 6:55 am
Esko joins the rest at the main cabins and stands next to Greta, stretching his tall frame after the cramped ride. The fawning student is not unfamiliar to Esko as his status as an academic has put him in this situation many times. While he doesn't necessarily seek that attention, he has been around for it not to bother him either.

"I don't think we have much choice, Greta" he says. He eyes Mikka as the man rubs his cigarette out on the bear and joins Dalvin on the porch, peering in a window when he hears a noise from the woods. He turns and sees the young man emerging from the path.

Esko calls to the young man, still not sure of his age and whether the he can help them or if Esko should be asking about his parents, "Hi there, we could use some help. Do you live here?"

Mikko's been on enough investigative excursions on the streets of various cities to know crazy when he sees it. And right now, seeing this young man with a knife and a dead bird, he's pretty sure this guy has some sort of mental illness.

Instinctively he puts himself between the young man and Greta, guarding her.

He mutters low so only his companions can hear, "Careful with this guy, I don't like the vibe I'm getting from him."
OOC:
What kind of knife is it? Is there any blood on the knife? Can Mikko see what sort of expression is on the boy's face? Are there any branches or sticks around that Mikko could use as a weapon?

Greta turns to watch the figure in the distance when Heikkinen hails him, until Alexander blocks her line-of-sight. Hearing Alexander mumble his warning she steps out from behind him, commenting as she does, "YOU need to like calm the heck down, jeez."

She raises her arm and gives the figure a friendly wave.

"HALLO!"
Dec 15, 2023 3:46 am
The boy just freezes and takes a few steps back when you call him. The knife seems bloody but it's hard to tell from this distance.

Just as Dalvin is turning away the door opens behind him and you hear a man's voice (in Finnish):

Evening.... may I help you? Welcome.... to Iilves Camping

and then in struggling English: Me help you?

The speech is withered and creeky as if the man hasn't talked much of late. Also he reeks: you feel a penetrating body odor of sweat, piss, alcohol and something else.

He is wearing a simple gray shirt and greenish cargo pants.

You can't make much of the boy's face from this distant as he is carrying no light. There are some branches nearby as the yard is not very well kept.
Dec 15, 2023 7:25 am
Startled by the man at the door, he turns around to face him and winces at the odour.

Dammit. Quite the welcome committee.

"Ehm... Good evening," he answers. "Our car has broken down and it is getting too dark to try and fix it.... We need shelter for the night, if one of your lodges is... available ?" He has to refrain from saying decent.
Dec 16, 2023 6:02 am
Esko smells the man before he hears him, he turns and sees that Dalvin is already addressing the apparent proprietor decides to investigate the odd fellow in the yard a bit more. He gives Mikko a nod and says, "You an me both"

Esko take a few steps off the porch and nods to the boys hands, "What's that you have there?"
Dec 16, 2023 1:54 pm
When the boy takes a few steps back, Mikko does indeed relax, just ever so slightly, and takes a moment to peer over Dalvin's shoulder and beyond the open door—but trying not to let the boy fall out of his field of vision.

Then the foul odor hits him, "Ugh, what is that smell?" he mutters under his breath to Greta.
OOC:
Are there electrical lights or devices turned on inside? What can Mikko see behind the stinky man?
Dec 16, 2023 5:25 pm
Greta turns when she hears Dalvin greeting the owner, and sidles over to listen in, losing interest in the boy.
Dec 16, 2023 9:36 pm
OOC:
The room behind the man is dimly lit. Behind his shoulder you see a counter on the left wall behind the door. There is a sign for reception and some candy bars and brochures - all of them seem withered and old.
The boy tosses the dead bird toward Esko, seems to be licking his fingers and then runs back to the woods laughing.

The man on the door mutters:

Boys will be boys..... cough Ermmm... yes we might have cabin.... Let me see..

He then turns back inside and slides a part of the counter open and goes to the other side. He leaves the door on the porch open.
Dec 17, 2023 12:56 am
Dalvin holds his breath and follows the man inside.
If he gives us a cabin, it will be worth enduring the stench. Hang in there, old man.

"The cabins are... in good condition, yes?" he asks, looking around at the faded brochures.
Dec 17, 2023 1:34 am
Greta follows Dalvin in wrinkling her nose, and breathing thru her mouth as she catches the after-whiff of the owner.

Greta tugs on Dalvin's sleeve and asks, "Mr Arnarson, ask for like two cabins as it is not be appropriate for me to share with the men. You and I can like get one of the cabins."

She looks around the interior, fearing for the worst on the likely state of the cabins, "and like, uhm, maybe we should use our own camping gear to sleep in ya know."

Esko stares at the boy running off and glances at the bird with distaste before rejoining the others on the porch.

"Well that's not much in the way of a welcome," He says to Mikko, "I wonder how long its been since anyone has actually stayed here." before following the others into the office.

Mikko ponders Esko’s question. The last time Mikko saw cabins like these was when he and his brother were kids, sent out for a week of summer camp. That must have been at least twenty years ago. It reminds him, that he should call his brother when he gets back home, treat him to dinner, and see how being a new father is treating him.

The dead bird catches his attention as the others filter into the cabin.

He watches as the feathers catch in the winds. Its lifeless eyes gaze out.
Did I really see that kid lick his fingers? He asks himself.

He looks up into the gloom to see if the kid is still around, but the entire situation just feels wrong.

I think this dead bird mixed with the memory of his brother and much better times camping is enough to make Mikko roll his insanity die.

Okay, rolling your insanity die is suiting if the situation triggers a memory. Your Insanity is now at 2.
You are pretty sure he did lick his fingers. And you are also pretty sure that there was some blood from the bird on them. Maybe you begin to think about salmonella?

The boy is nowhere to be seen. A wind from the forest make some trees sway. The smell of the air is damp and sour.
Dec 18, 2023 4:16 am
The reception room's floor creaks as you enter the room. The room is empty except for an old sofa and a coffee table at the opposite wall. On the wall behind the sofa there is an old and discoloured map of Finland. A dim light flickers above the reception on - off - on. No other lights are functioning. You see dust and dirt gathering on the corners and on the floor. On the other wall there is a window out. You see bushes and trees in shadows.

There is one door next to the reception counter that leads to a toilet ("WC") and next to it there is a door that reads "Staff". There are dried footsteps of mud leading to the Staff entrance.

The man mutters something inaudible and shuffles trough a locker and then hands out a key to the counter. The key has a fob shaped like a fish.

Ermm... well.... Cabin 3 seems to be free.
Dec 19, 2023 7:50 am
Dalvin looks around the reception for a tariff board.
"What's your price for the night?" he asks, seeing none.

He takes the key from the counter. Turning to Greta he says, "one cabin will do. It's just the one night, and there might be separate rooms."
OOC:
If the reeking man mentions a regular price, he will ask directions to cabin 3 and will start heading there.
Dec 19, 2023 3:51 pm
Greta starts feeling itchy, but puts it down to the unsanitary place, trying hard to convince herself it is not fleas.

"If you say so Mr Arnarson," she stands a bit closer to him and whispers. "This place is a bit creepy if you ask me."
Dec 20, 2023 2:30 am
Mikko gazes down upon the impromptu bird grave. His hand fiddles with his lighter. He quietly awaits news from the others.
Dec 20, 2023 4:15 am
The reeking man takes a breather to think and then concludes:

"The price is 60 euros a night, cash."
OOC:
This is actually pretty low because it's per a cabin not for person.

Then he suddenly yells:

"Eva, Eva! Escort the guests to cabin three!

And from the staff door a girl appears. A very pale and thin young blonde haired girl about the same age as the boy you saw earlier. She is wearing mud stained jogging pants and an oversized gray hoodie with a crumbling logo that reads "Iilves Camping".
Dec 20, 2023 5:25 am
The last thing Greta expected to see was another youngster, so she is briefly taken aback by the appearance of Eva.

"Uh, well, erm, hello Eva," she greets the girl, then gives Dalvin a nudge and whispers. "It's getting worse Mr Arnarson. Do we have to stay here?"
OOC:
Can Greta spot any family resemblance between the owner and Eva, or with the boy outside, although admittedly her view of him was brief?

OOC:
They might be father and daughter. I.e. there is a resemblance, some facial features - the girl doesn't reek though so that doesn't run in the family

As for the boy, it's hard to say. You saw him only briefly and it was dark.
When you speak to the girl she just nods briefly but doesn't say anything. She walks past you to the door and out (if you don't stop her).

The reeking man says.

Follow her, yes.... to the cabin.
Dec 21, 2023 4:30 am
Greta will rush to leave the office to get away from the stale smell of the man and the stench of decay in the office. Once outside she again asks Dalvin, "Can we not go elsewhere Mr Arnarson?"
Dec 21, 2023 7:41 am
"Hmm? Not likely. We're lucky that the car broke down near this place. Best to have a bad cabin for shelter, than no shelter at all," he replies to Greta.

Then, as they follow the girl, he addresses her, to get a sense of she's just as odd as the other two they met so far. "Your family lives here all year round? Through the winter? Must be tough..."
Dec 21, 2023 8:03 am
Esko shares Greta's distaste for the smell in the cabin and breaths in a lungful of fresh air as they exit. He's been around some industrial plants and labs and has encountered his share of foul odors, but the stench from the office was something else. "As much as I wish he wasn't, I think Dalvin is right Greta. This seems to be our only option. Lets hope Cabin 3 smells better than the office."

Esko follows the group along to Cabin 3, and after Dalvin gets an answer from the girl, Esko asks "How many other cabins are here? Do you have other campers?"

OOC:
Yes, it's next to the way to the forest. But the way is more like a dirt path than a road. No car could drive it very far because it gets more cramped as it enters the forest. You see a couple of footprints - probably the boy as he turned quite fast and headed to the forest.
Dec 23, 2023 8:07 am
The girl doesn't seem to address anybody directly but she answers:

We're always here, our family. Mother, father, me and my brother...... cabins 4 and 5 are occupied.

As you walk through the yard you see that the cabins numbered 1 and 2 are in bad shape. The first has a caved in roof and the second doesn't have a door and you see that the floor might be collapsed. All the other cabins look old and withered, it seems it's been a long time since any renovations have been done.

Cabin 4 has a light on and there are wind chimes hanging on the porch. They make an eerie ring in the night air.

Cabin 5 hasn't got any lights on but it seems to be in better condition.

You walk past the dead bird and reach cabin 3. The girl points at the door and tells you:

Cabin 3 is here.

As she looks at you she forms a heartless smile showing her teeth. That lasts only a second or two. Then her face melts back to being blank and motionless. She quickly starts to walk back to the reception.
Dec 23, 2023 4:44 pm
"Wait Eva!" Greta calls to the girl and quickly catches up with her. "Listen, there's no like signal here which is so messed up. So, dya like wanna hang? Give up the tea on who lives in the other cabins and all? Huh?"

Greta gives the girl a friendly smile, trying to encourage her to say yes.
Dec 26, 2023 9:10 am
The girl stops and looks perplexed. She looks over her shoulder and then back at you and seems somewhat anxious.

It is night soon but yes.... maybe just for a little while.
Dec 26, 2023 7:44 pm
"Awesome, then c'mon lets, like, camp here." Greta points at a comfortable spot, as much out of sight of the office as she can find. She pats the spot beside her as she sits down. "C'mon, let's talk. So, what's the story?"
Dec 27, 2023 12:37 am
He turns to look at Greta distracting the strange girl. He shakes his head. That Greta's really got a timing problem.

He calls out, jangling the cabin key. "We'll just check the cabin ourselves, then."

He carries on to the cabin and unlocks the door, giving it a check for basics. Electricity... state of the beds... dampness and roof condition.
Dec 28, 2023 7:09 am
"Well at least we aren't the only campers. Though, I would feel a bit better if we knew who our neighbors were..."

Esko takes a few steps towards Cabin 4 while waiting for Dalvin to unlock the door. Not wanting to intrude on the other campers privacy, he tries to see what he can through the window with the light on without noticeably being a peeping tom.

Mikko joins Esko. As they walk toward Cabin 4 he begins to talk, almost rambling really, as the deal with the bird still has him feeling ungrounded.
"Even if that cabin works out, do you really think you could sleep in a place like this? I don't think I'm going to sleep." He asks Esko.

Mikko turns his attention to the windchime.
OOC:

OOC:
The wind chime is made from copper tubes attached to a small wooden block, it looks old and possibly homemade. It makes continuous spur of high chiming in the evening wind. It's not very loud but noticeable.

Esko looks to the lit cabin but doesn't see anybody. There's a kitchen table behind the window and two glasses on it, next to them there is a plastic bottle of dark coloured soda.
Dalvin opens the cabin door. It's a bit rusty and swollen so it's heavy but it opens with a push.

The cabin is spartan to say the least but it looks relatively clean and dry. There is an old leather sofa on the right side wall (long enough for one person to sleep on it). In the middle of the room there is a wooden dining table for four people with two benches. On the left wall there is a bed for one person (there is a mattress but not sheets). On the left corner on the back there is a door to a bathroom and next to it a kitchenette (a hot plate, fridge and a sink with a cabinet). Over the kitchenette there is a sleeping balcony and ladder to reach it on the right corner. There are windows in all the walls but the window at the back of the kitchenette is covered with plywood. The glass seems to be broken on one corner.
Dec 29, 2023 3:49 am
Greta sits and the girl joins her looking a bit awkward. She speaks quietly:

"Me and my brother live in cabin 4. Cabin 5 is always occupied...... Mother and father live in the office building."

The man from the reception yells out:

"Eeva, get back here, there's work to be done! Don't bother our guests!"

She gets up and heads to the reception.
Dec 29, 2023 7:25 am
Dalvin grunts, reporting to the others on the condition of the cabin.

"Not great, but it will have to do for the night. We'll be out of here tomorrow morning. "

He climbs the ladder to the mezzanine level, to check the mattresses up there too, then he will claim one bed for himself.
Dec 29, 2023 7:39 pm
Greta sighs as Eva rushes off to answer her father's call, and heads back to the cabin to join the others.

"Well, she's a loser," Greta announces poking her thumb at the departing girl. She walks over to the sofa and sits down, testing it for a nights comfort of sleeping. "I'll take this one. By the way the loser kids, like, sleep in Cabin 4. Cabin 5 has a permanent guest. Sigh, why is there like no mobile signal, sheesh."
Dec 30, 2023 6:47 am
Esko walks back into the cabin and feels a bit awkward for being paranoid after learning that cabin 4 was the two kids, but quickly shrugs it off.

"Thanks Greta, though somehow I don't feel much comforted by that fact. I'm not sure who would want to stay here permanently, but it can't be for the company," he says as he inspects the interior, "or the ambiance."

He calls up to Dalvin, "Guess I'll be joining you up there if there is room."

Dalvin and Esko you wake up on the dark mezzazine when you hear some thumping sounds above you. Somebody's at the roof. You also hear something from below. Outside, maybe behind the window or the kitchenette.

"Eh? Whats that?" Esko asks groggily. He grabs his phone and turns on the light upon hearing the sounds from outside.

"Maybe a bear?" Esko moves to the window and tries to see what he can by the light of his phone.

OOC:
There is no window on the mezzazine. From up there you don't see much in the windows on the room below either.
Dalvin flips on the flashlight. You see a spill of blood dripping to the mezzazine form somewhere on the roof. You turn the flashlight to the room below and see a bigger puddle of blood dripping form the ceiling to the centre of the room. Something is moving in the midst of the blood. Crouching and trembling.

Then something drops to your arm: a giant leech. It's about 5 to 8 inches long and crawls fast.

Suddenly you both notice they seem to be everywhere.

"Ugh...what the hell..." Esko slaps the slithering worms off and and stomps on it before it wriggles off. He grabs the leech off Dalvin and hurls it against the wall, saying "Pull it together, Arnarson! Lets get the others.".

Esko climbs down and makes his way towards the door, carefully avoiding the center of the room, while shouting "Everyone up, we need to get out of here."

Greta comes too, groggy from a deep sleep, all around her is shouting and flashing lights. She tries to make out what is going on as she turns on her own light
Jan 7, 2024 6:11 pm
Mikko dreams of watching his brother eating raw bird meat.
"Stop! You're going to get sick from that." He wants to say. But his voice is muffled and choked as though something wriggles in his mouth. Then the shouting and commotion disrupt his sleep.

He wakes to see the writhing things in the blood pool on the floor illuminated by irregular sweeps of Esko's light.

These things are already downstairs crawling over Greta and Mikko too. When Greta turns the light on she also sees these leeches, some of them have already bitten her legs and they suck and try to crawl under the skin.
OOC:
Greta can also roll for Insanity.
Jan 7, 2024 6:52 pm
Mikko gags with revulsion. He brushes violently at these things that slither across and cling to his skin. He leaps out of bed, shaking and stomping, trying to fling these things away, perhaps rushing over to help Greta.

Esko having reached the floor sees Greta struggling with the leeches and makes his way to the kitchenette. "Greta over here," Esko shouts and turns on the hot plate before searching the cabinet for a knife or screwdriver.
OOC:
Esko wants to try and pry the plywood off the window, or help Greta if she can make her way over to him. Not sure if the hot plate would heat up fast enough to burn the leeches, but his next action would depend what he finds in the cabinet.
Jan 8, 2024 4:11 pm
"YIEEEEE! YIEEEEE!" Greta continues shrieking as she hurries over to Esko, still trying to pull the leeches off her skin as she goes, the light from her phone wobbling about the room as she runs.
Jan 9, 2024 5:40 am
Mikko gets the things off of himself but doesn't really have a chance to help Greta as she flies past him screaming.

Esko gets the hot plate fired. It's an old thing and it'll probably take time to heat it up but at least there is power.
OOC:
Esko can make a luck roll with a d6 to search the kitchenette.
Jan 9, 2024 3:53 pm
OOC:
Yeah, I am not so sure about this whole "hot plate" approach. My limited knowledge of leeches is that salt gets them off, but I don't think Greta will know that or anything else about them. So she'll go with Esko's suggestion.

Can she get them off her while they are waiting?

"You OK up there, Dalvin?" Mikko asks. He grabs his shoes and puts them on at a frantic pace as he looks around.
OOC:
Is there a hole in the ceiling with these things pouring in?
Jan 10, 2024 3:31 pm
OOC:
Mikko sees that the creatures come from the ceiling and there might be several holes because they seem to come from different directions.

Greta manages to shake the first leeches off but other hungry creatures are following.
Jan 10, 2024 3:35 pm
What about Dalvin, are you also coming down?
Jan 10, 2024 3:52 pm
OOC:
If she has all the leeches off on her own then she'll skip the hot plate treatment and aim to get out of the cabin. Shoes and coat on of course.
Jan 10, 2024 4:13 pm
Dalvin shakes off the thing on his arm and rushes downstairs too. No way I'm gonna be left alone up here with these things!
Mikko says:
"You OK up there, Dalvin?"
"Yeah... I think so... wh-what are these things?" he asks, his hands still shaking as he regroups downstairs with the others.
Jan 11, 2024 3:36 am
The holes in the roof give Mikko pause. If these things are determined enough to bore through a cabin roof, maybe he doesn't want to go outside-- what's to say there aren't more of them out there, he wonders.

You find a rusty old knife, a frying pan and a spatula.
Jan 13, 2024 10:05 am
Everyone:

You hear somebody shouting or maybe arguing outside but can't make up what it is about. You see movement behind the left side window (left as left from the door, behind the couch).
Jan 13, 2024 10:08 am
Dalvin sees that downstairs, the leeches situation is much more serious, and sees Greta struggling for the locked door.
He looks for a kitchen chair or stool, and starts stomping it on the floor, squashing leeches to clear a path to the nearest window.

"We gotta get out! Try the windows!"
Jan 13, 2024 5:26 pm
"The door is blocked! We can't get out!" Greta starts panicking again. Hearing Dalvin's shout she grabs her boot and smashes it against the nearest window, holding her arm up to protect her face.

Esko grabs the knife and tries to use to pry the plywood covering the window off. "This feels a little loose, but I can't get it off myself!"

Prying off the plywood is hard work, Esko doesn't seem to be progressing. But with Mikko's help he gets a sheet of plywood off the window.

But at the same time Greta throws her boot and it smashes through the window behind the couch. There's at least one way out.
Jan 15, 2024 4:12 pm
Greta pulls on her boots and coat, to protect against the sharp glass, while shouting for the others to follow her.

"C'mon guys, we have a way outta here," he pokes her head out the window to check what's on the other side. Laying her sleeping bag on the bottom ledge
Jan 15, 2024 4:46 pm
Mikko leans his head out the window.
OOC:
I am imagining Mikko and Esko are on the up on the kitchen counter, the window that once had plywood was above the sink, right? I imagine he's standing on the kitchen counter, a bit awkward, leaning down so his head doesn't hit the ceiling. Does that jive? How dark is it out there, can he see much of anything?
Jan 17, 2024 4:24 pm
Dalvin carries on squashing as many of the leeches as he can, stomping them down with the chair legs like a madman.
"You. filthy. things! This isn't even your habitat! This is Scandinavia, goddammit!! Take! THIS!!"
Jan 19, 2024 5:38 am
Mikko leans out of the window. It is dark out and a couple of trees are really close to the back wall of your cabin.

But you do notice 2 things: there is a path that leads in to the forest behind your cabin and this path seems to be crowded by crawling leeches. Also you notice there is a wooden ladder up to the roof leaning to the cabin.
Jan 19, 2024 5:40 am
Greta stumbles out. Does Dalvin follow?
Jan 19, 2024 5:44 am
ooc]Is there anything laying around that would be flammable in the hot plate?[/ooc][/quote]
OOC:
Sorry, just noticed your question. The hot plate warms up slowly but you notice it gets quite hot. You have your plywood and you also find a couple of rolls of toilet paper that would be flammable.
Jan 20, 2024 8:20 am
Dalvin makes sure he is wearing his jacket before going out, then follows the others through the window by the couch, and outside.

Noticing the ladder, he grunts "Goddammit... They threw those things at us..."

He steps to the ladder and kicks it off balance and to the ground, to make life for anyone still on the roof a little harder.
Jan 20, 2024 5:57 pm
Greta will start looking around the cabin to see who is out there, trying to identify the noises the heard. She'll switch her phone light on and shine it around the walls, and up to the roof.

"Whose out here! What are you people doing!" She shouts into the dark.
Jan 20, 2024 7:01 pm
OOC:
Are the leeches using the ladder to get to the roof?

"Outside looks bad. There are leeches all over that back path."

Mikko eases out the window but doesn't jump down. He stands on the bottom of the window, and braces himself by holding onto the cabin.
"Hold on, let me check if they are everywhere."
OOC:
Based on what Mikko sees, what is the best method of escape? Any leech-free paths?
Jan 24, 2024 7:32 am
As you step outside, Dalvin and Greta, you notice two dark hooded figures running to the woods.

Dalvin kicks the ladder down and this makes a rusty bucket drop down from the roof. It is empty now but it seems like it was filled with blood. You see leeches sprawling everywhere, they were climbing the ladder, they are on the ground. They are coming from the woods. Next to their path the dark figures run.

You don't see anyone on the roof.

You also see movement in the dark between the next two cabins.

Mikko also sees the people running to the woods as you look through the kitchenette window. Leeches start climbing towards your window. Maybe a better path would be through the other windows.
Jan 24, 2024 4:00 pm
"C'mon old man let's get 'em," Greta whispers loudly to Dalvin, pointing to the movement between the two cabins. She runs towards it, shining her phone light ahead to try and illuminate what is there.

What a stupid prank she thinks as she runs. Expecting to see them all posted on Tiktok by tomorrow, looking like fools
Jan 27, 2024 12:03 am
He grabs Greta's shoulder, whispering "Wait! we don't know how dangerous these people are... that was a sick thing to do, dropping buckets of leeches through the roof. What kind of twisted person does that?? And... what were those leeches ?! Did they look normal to you?? This isn't the Rainforest..."

He calls the others still inside the cabin, "Come on people... let's stay together."
Jan 27, 2024 12:12 am
Greta stops her rush, and let's Dalvin hold her still. To be fair she wasn't that keen anyway, just her anger driving her.
Jan 27, 2024 9:39 pm
"More of these things are heading this way," Mikko tells the others about the leeches that are slurping toward the window. Mikko kicks a path to join Greta and Dalvin.
OOC:
How much time before these leeches overwhelm everyone? Feels like if the group doesn't leave the cabin soon, they are going to be killed by them.

As I understand, Greta and Dalvin are out now. You and Esko should get out too, you have only a couple of moments before it's too late.

Also every one should probably get away from the cabin.

I'm sorry if I have been unclear!

He calls back to the cabin. "Guys? Get out of there, quick!"
