There are no special weapons restrictions against the statue; all would be effective.

Luther has his trusty mace

Pickles has a couple of silver arrows and one magic, two if our wonderful DM allows the tale to go ‘As Bob the Apprentice slinks off into the shadows, the thief doesn’t spot Pickles doing his own lurking. The Halfling’s sticky fingers pulling a shiny arrow from the folds of the disappearing shadows of his former colleague.’ 😁

So I guess we're rolling initiative?

Now I guess we'll find out whether a rock monster has really high AC and few HP, or really low AC and many HP!

I wonder if we could trip it somehow...? Unfortunately, we have no Grease spell.

Well it's a first floor monster so I'm hoping it has neither lol

Yes, that's fine. Add Bob's arrow to your inventory.

Burbage says:
For starters, please let me know if any of the melee combatants (Ricard, Luther, Horath) plan to withdraw or retreat, or whether anyone would like to cast a spell.
So this is something like the fifth time our DM has dropped a pointed reference to casting a spell, which really feels like a STRONG HINT. I have not cast Sleep on this statue because I don't think a statue can be awake or asleep, but the only other spell we have available is a healing spell. What do you think? Should I try using Sleep, or is the DM just trying to get us to panic? On the one hand, it wouldn't be any more useless than Gabbro's recent sling attempts, but on the other, it's using up the one offensive spell we have.

No, don't read anything into that! I'm just applying strictly the slightly unusual combat sequence of B/X in which any spells or melee movement (fighting withdrawal or retreat) must be declared BEFORE you roll initiative. That's the only reason I keep mentioning it.

OOC:
Doesn't our gnome friend have color spray? I'm not sure what he currently has access to, but CS might be useful... Otherwise Ricard is gonna bail before he dies

Actually, I think Ricard will do a withdrawal regardless and the gnome can cast CS, if it works then I'll rush back in next round

Our gnome friend got crushed right out the gate.

Oh shit! I lost track of his name! Noooooo! Gnomy is dead? I feel worse about that than I do if it had been a player lol (players can make new characters)

This is the reason Pickles aim has been off, he is quite shaken by the death of Johann.

Johan, noooooooo!

*DING! DING! DING!*

It's been a long road (almost 2 years of real-world time), but Gabbro, one of the original Hellions, has finally made it Level 2! Congratulations! He is now a "Warrior-Seer".

After that epic levelling, please don't get killed by the crystal statue!

Here's the current XP situation for all Hellions:

- Gabbro: 4,022
- Horath: 1,429 (close to Level 2)
- Luther: 3,178
- Pickles: 3,646
- Ricard: 4,940
