I regret not having my PC talk to more people before the ceremony, spreading fear, uncertainty, and doubt among the spectators. Perhaps our characters can do that quietly before they leave -- although it seems like they need to leave quickly.

If the PCs made any connections among the attendees, I suggest we try keep the connection open for later use.

As I see it, we either made a big mess out of a reconnaissance mission or we are about to screw up a boss fight, or both.
At least we foiled the show, dissuaded a large part of his potential followers, and taken out one of the priests.
It seems like Bandu still wants to fight, so we better get out of there.

It's been a long time since this arc began (over a year for you as players, but only a few weeks for your characters), but I did recap your goals recently. I'll do so again:

This isn't a reconnaissance mission.

Lady Blackridge wanted you to bring her Astalor, dead or alive.

You guys (totally fairly) balked at the notion that you had the authority or right to kill him. So the Lady settled for the idea that you could just deliver him to her custody.

Part of it all was also the idea that gathering evidence of any crimes he might have committed could give you guys basically the authority you might need to do whatever is required, if any actual authority (Gondor) stopped or questioned you for some reason, or for your own conscience.

Sure, the main goal is to capture him. I was just referring to this particular scene where we went in without deciding if we were just discreetly observing what was going on or capture him on the spot.

While retreating and coming up with a better plan is the prudent option and one that I prefer, is there a chance we can take on a wounded Astalor, two knocked-out priests, and a handful of followers in a fight at this point? Just putting it out there
OOC:
Nevermind. The narrative has moved on.

Just a heads up gang, I have two kids home sick today (and had one yesterday), so going to have a bit of a lull in posting as this all gets sorted out.

I hope everyone is doing better.

Hey gang, between my absences from work last week (and having to play catch up now), and then the American holiday occurring this week (for which I'm traveling), I will probably not be posting much until Dec. 2 or so.

Apologies, but we'll see you all then.

No problem. Safe travels and Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

I'm OK to burn the books, but how can we do that without some smoke alerting the enemy? Maybe burn them in the rocky passage leading to the crypt, rather than in the crypt itself?

@rpgventurer @Stefron Do we attempt a ranged attack? Cirion has a Short Bow, and DEX +2
Altough it is dark, the guy is holding a torch, helping our aim.

Otherwise, hide and ambush? Other ideas?

Éothain has a short bow, too, and +5 to hit.

Two arrows are better than one.

However, is it right to kill this person? Is he a soldier with a hand axe, or a cook with a butcher knife? Or am I overthinking?

Duinhir also has a bow. It might work with three arrows but if it fails he'll run off setting off an alarm. Maybe an ambush is better and as rpgventure points out more ethical.

Ambush it is, then. Aim at capturing him / silencing without killing
Jan 14, 2026 8:36 pm
Should we knock the prisoner unconscious?
Jan 14, 2026 8:40 pm
Technically, he is unconscious if you want him to be already.

I was leaving it ambiguous/ignoring the rules incase you wanted to question him.
