Welcome!

Hello. Thanks for joining up. Over the next day or two I'll be tweaking and updating our forum here. I hope to start the game by week's end (9.10.22).

If you don't mind, just drop a hello here and tell me a little about yourself so we can all get to know each other.

I've been playing around with TTRPGs since 2014. At 40 years old I came to this hobby a bit later in life than many. I've played several different types of games using various RPG systems from extreme simulationist to narrative (GURPS to PbtA). Recently, I've taken a look at some of the OSR community materials and have started to dip my toe into it more.

I'm on EST (USA - East).

Your turn. :)

I'm 46 and haven't played a game yet! Played my fair share of board games tho. I've been studying TTRPGs for the last month and I think I'm really into the OSR stuff. I don't own a computer and I've spent too much time searching for phone games that don't suck. Then I finally realized that it has been here since the 70s... Can't wait to begin.

I'm 52 (yeah... I know) and I got my start playing Basic & Advanced D&D back in the early 80's. I moved onto Star Wars D6 and focused on it until I went to college. Once college hit I sorta just got away from the hobby for many years (too many) and finally found my way back a year or two before the pandemic. It wasn't until the pandemic that I found ways to play online and that's when I really got back into it.

I'm a rules light fan and favor modern/sci-fi games more than fantasy, but fantasy is fun too! I've been wanting to play Knave for a while and I'm really looking forward to seeing what it is about. I've been playing a hexcrawl solo for a few months and love it. It will be fun to get into one with a group!

I'm in Central Time (USA).

I am 43. I have started playing TTRPGs since high school, when AD&D was in 2th edition.

I played for ten years or more. Then it stopped due to life events happening. Groups falling appart. Weddings, babies, new jobs, people moving.

Between Stranger Things and COVID lock downs, I got inspired to start playing again. 5E was quite a culture shock really :). Also playing some other systems. Kids on bikes mostly. Some games by video, some by PBP.

I live in Europe (CET) so my posting schedule might be a bit off from all yours.

Not having to play games with teenagers is awesome. I like the age group here.

Wow. What a solid group! Looking forward to it.

Your experience levels are impressive as well, so to that point, any and ALL tips you may have are welcome. I'd really like to be the best GM I can, so, up front. . .or as we progress. . .feel free to drop some criticism/suggestions!

What resources are you using?

Why only 3 PC? Isn't OSR Deadly? Are we gonna wish we had a 4th?

I've got a home grown system I've been using, a mashup of different hex population tools, and a simple Yes/No oracle. I'm a tinkerer so I tend to hack on things and make my own stuff. I'm trying to strike a healthy balance between hacker, player, and GM. :)

We have very similar stories. I'm glad to be back after a long hiatus.

Good question. I considered 4, but I really wanted to take a precaution and not turn the game into a slog. I realize 4+ players can certainly do a PbP, but being my first I was trying to keep the group size easily manageable.

I won't be able to create a character till tomorrow morning. I'll roll one up then and see what I get.

So I'm watching some YouTube videos about osr games because you know that's what I do. And I really like this questing beast YouTube channel.

And the guy in the video says "My game Knave..."

Hahaha

Yeah! Hah. Questing Beast is a good channel! :)

I also like Bandit's Keep, for GM advice.
