If most of the party doesn’t want to go, I’m fine waiting to see what happens…

What if we are the next victims? We have to travel through them to carry on, with the three travelers we have extra numbers.

Damn cultist's are this far from Orlane.
Sep 10, 2026 9:28 pm
@spaceseeker19 Are the cultists going to or from Orlane? If any cultists survive, we should ask them where the trogdoltyes came from.

Also, it seems the cultists are not allied with the forest bandits. As a long term plan, maybe we can recruit bandits to join us in freeing Orlane.

FYI: I'm going to be celebrating my anniversary this weekend. I'll be away from my normal system. I'll still try to post daily, but I probably won't be able to update maps until Sunday.

Happy anniversary!!

Happy anniversary!

This combat has just turned completely tits up! We need to focus on the trogs, they’ll take us down very quickly, so let’s use the bandits as fodder…

Agreed matmaisan

Happy Anniversary!

Yep, the trogs are wild things. They need to go first.

Also, this might turn out to be a singular opportunity to contact Black’s bandits in a cooperative setting, maybe an alliance for more than just this fight…

Though Ben has Antonius’ hammer, so we’ll have to see if he is willing to relinquish it.
Sep 12, 2026 5:44 pm
I think Cultist Devon is the one with the warhammer.
Sep 12, 2026 10:20 pm
Yes, he is attacking Ben with it.
Sep 13, 2026 6:00 am
Oh, so Ene didn’t make it far…
Sep 13, 2026 11:32 am
Probably the smell coming from the wagon 😟
Sep 14, 2026 7:31 pm
What’s with the horn blowing? Reinforcements?
Sep 14, 2026 7:40 pm
That's my guess. Ben called for it when he realized we showed up.

Note that more modern versions of D&D have leaned into the idea that an owlbear is literally a cross between an owl and a bear, but that's not how the creatures originally were presented in Greyhawk/AD&D. The owlbear comes directly from a set of cheap plastic toys that many people in the USA during the 70s (including Gary Gygax) found at bought at any drugstore: "Prehistoric Animals." The name owlbear, just like my description, was an attempt to describe the strange creature:

The creature came first, and people struggling to come up with a name called it an "owlbear," even though it contains the parts of neither owl nor bear.

This is the full set of toys you would get in the Prehistoric Animals bag (I had all these as a kid myself).

You will probably recognize at least a couple of other iconic D&D monsters there, too, whose designs/depictions have varied even less than the owlbear's.

@spaceseeker19 Thanks for posting that picture. It brings back good memories.
Sep 15, 2026 6:38 am
Oh, that’s where the design of the rust monster comes from, then!

Well this encounter just went double tits up… my gamer minds says it’s time for a well managed retreat, Berthold’s paladin mind says "Aha! Time to show virtuous conduct!"…

Yeah, I think we’re outmatched against the owlbear. Anyone have any ideas on how to distract it away the party (and our cart/retainers/oxen)?
