The original post on this thread states :
I’m thinking of running a paladin, probably multiclassing into sorcerer (divine soul) or warlock (hexblade) later on. I wonder if Aasimars are allowed in this world, since that might play along well with the character concept. I also often play clerics, since few people seem to enjoy playing that class. So if we’re missing a divine spell-caster, I might also play that. Are these options allowed @spaceseeker19 ?

Funny you mention Cleric’s @matmaisan, my two character thoughts are . . .
Cleric of Death Domain possibly Human, (may take a level of fighter or two if they live long enough)
Or
Goliath either Warlock or Sorcerer

Question @spaceseeker19 can I replace the crowbar with thieves tools for the spy variant of the criminal background?1) Roll starting money and buy all the character's gear instead of taking the default equipment,
or
2) Take the default criminal (Spy) equipment but exchange the crowbar for thieves' tools with my blessing, knowing that I will augment your PC's background to explain how your Spy got their hands on burgling tools.

Dell Brandstone is 6'1" 195 lbs with brown hair braided in multiple braids in the fashion of the Boundary Wardens of Agaden Reach. He joined the Wardens because of his older(by two minuets) twin brother Chase. They are identical twins in every way except Chase was always stronger because he spent more time outdoors then Dell who always like trying to sneak around and scare or eavesdrop on people. Dell always looked up to Chase and loves his brother dearly. This is why when Chase joined the Wardens Dell signed up too. Not being the usual outdoors ranger type Dell went into the branch of the Wardens called the Shadows. They are an elite group of spies and infiltrators who gather information for the Wardens on bandits and enemies. This is how Dell came to know that head councilor Joseph was secretly working with their enemies in Tamarang. Dell was the one that uncovered the orc raid that Chase turned back to become leader of the Wardens. He was also the one who told Chase to leave Agaden Reach because they were plotting to frame him for murder because Dell told Chase of Joseph plot. Dell pleaded with Chase to give him time to gather more evidence before going to the council but Chase was having none of it. With Chase gone things fell apart pretty quickly because Chase was the one person they were afraid of. Joseph appointed his puppet head of the Wardens and quickly started rounding them up and putting them in prison stating the group were traitors in league with Chase to overthrow Joseph. Dell was able to get away and now he is searching for his brother and will not stop until he finds his brother who he loves above everything. He knows Chase will probably want to back and try and get there homeland back but Dell knows that is fool hardy. He will of course help if that is the plan. But for now he plans to head south and find his brother. He is confident in his skills to accomplish this first taks.

Sora has been submitted. I still need to get her avatar up because, for whatever reason, the system is not accepting the one I have selected.

Sora is a dwarf of the same clan as Aanbo, sent to find him. Her background is that of a sage and brewer.

I have submitted Amnestria Elyphara, high elf wizard. She has a background as a sage (librarian), and if it's all right, could she be from a different Dungeon Buster office? I was thinking that as a librarian and scholar, she is part of a small group of fellow researchers that are documenting the history of Cecily Raptor and the Dungeon Buster organization. Her task is to journey along Cecily's Road and track down memoirs, anecdotes, or other historical evidence of Cecily Raptor's activities. If there's stuff already written, awesome; otherwise she'll spend her time interviewing anyone that might have some familiarity or knowledge.
She's a bit flighty in aspects unrelated to books and scholarly pursuits, which will be sorely evident upon her arrival to Hochoch with only a scholar's pack and a general naivete about survival in the wild.

Just a general warning: Sora's Charisma is a 7, and I intend to play her as gruff, rough around the edges, and a little bit abrasive. It is absolutely nothing personal towards any of the players. She is determined, no-nonsense, and doesn't take crap from anyone.

@mathias0077 - Some comments on:
I've fixed/finished filling out a number of things on the sheet, like saving throw proficiencies, movement speed, names of gold coins, and so on. The following are things you need to choose to complete the character:
1: Dell should have one more skill proficiency from the rogue list (thieves' tools is a tool proficiency, not a skill, so it doesn't count toward the four rogue skills).
2: Dell has dice and his trinket, a chess piece. He is proficient in one type of gaming set: is it dice, or chess?
3. Which two skills does Dell have with Expertise?
4. I've reorganized the account of events in Dell's background (he discovers the orc raid first, then Chase is promoted before Dell begins to suspect Joseph's betrayal, which leads to Chase's too-early accusation that results in him fleeing one step ahead of the law). I hope that works for you.
5. I've suggested the following for the last part of Dell's background (take what you like and edit the rest):
"Dell first caught his brother's trail in Istivin, the capital city of the Earldom of Sterich. A disagreement/misunderstanding with the thieves' guild there left him leaving Istivin in a hurry with a crystal chess king and a set of thieves' tools he lifted from a guild member. Reports of Chase's passing led him north, into the Duchy of Geoff. In the Duchy's capital of Gorna, Dell met with an elf adventurer, Cecily Raptor, who mistook him for his brother. Cecily told him how Chase had joined her "little project," the Dungeon Busters, and had headed east along the Trade Road to the new branch her lieutenant, Olpert Razorsson, was setting up in Hochoch. Cecily offered Dell a job - useful as his money was running low, gave him directions, and promised to delay any pursuit of the Istivin thieves who might be following him."

@WhtKnt - comments on Sora...
I've noted that Sora is a Hill Dwarf, added her HP (12), corrected her Speed (25), gave her Inspiration, noted her saving throw proficiencies (STR and DEX), and added the darts that she gets by default as a monk.
In addition to the profile picture, there are a few things you need to choose to complete Sora:
- which pack she is starting with: dungeoneer's or explorer's?
- her Personality traits, Ideal, Bond, and Flaw (though it sounds like the bond would be related to the Earthshaker Abbey)
- her trinket

@Cancerman - comments about Amnestria:
Nice character sheet, by the way. Which template did you use?
That's fine. There are two other locations that make sense: Gorna (capital city of the Duchy of Geoff, where Cecily is based) and Istivin (capital city of the Earldom of Sterich, which is not a vassal state of Keoland). If this new franchise in Hochoch works out, she's planning to open one in Hookhill, but that's in the future now. The nice thing about this is that you could have met Dell on the road from either city.
I like that flavor, but it might make more sense if she isn't a Dungeon Buster already, but instead a researcher from some other place that doesn't have a DB franchise office yet: Hookhill (Gran March to the east) or Niole Dra (Kingdom of Keoland to the south). That way she wouldn't have already met Cecily. But it would mean that she traveled through Orlane without noticing anything amiss on her way to Hochoch...you choose which sounds more interesting/fun for you. Given that she doesn't speak Keolish, the Hookhill or Istivin options make sense.
An idea (you can accept or reject): Amnestria may be a great (or great great) grand-daughter of Cecily's, who has never met her but has heard stories about her famous ancestor her whole life. Now she wants to meet the hero herself, and write her chronicle ("Cecily and Me").
Question: Has Amnestria already summoned a familiar? I'd recommend it, as you'd have to wait to prepare the spell, gather the components, and find a brass brazier otherwise (since there is a cost listed).
After giving her Inspiration, the only thing I see that you should add is Amnestria's trinket.

This time around, I'm going old school with a Mountain Dwarf Fighter, Kazzak Thunderblood. I want to pattern him after Dwarves in original D&D as much as possible. He is motivated by Ambition, desiring to join the Dungeon Busters and someday return home as a hero, accelerating his rise in the ranks of the clan.
I'd like to place his clan in the Barrier Peaks for sentimental reasons. (A certain expedition there is one of the few TSR modules I played way back when.) @spaceseeker19, are there any known clans there? Also, do you consider the mountain range south of the Valley of the Mage part of the Barrier Peaks?

Hey @spaceseeker19, here are some notes on my cleric.
I need a little help with languages, he has four spots to fill. Thinking all three common human languages and one other maybe something darker. The below list is a few things I’d like in his possession.

[ +- ] Antonius Block
Former Watchman of Niole Dra
Cleric of Wee Jas, the Ruby Sorceress
Antonius Block — Appearance
Antonius is in his early thirties, broad-shouldered from years in the Watch, with the posture of someone accustomed to standing guard for long hours. He is not ostentatious; his strength lies in stillness.
* Height: Just over six feet
* Build: Solid, functional muscle rather than athletic grace
* Hair: Dark brown, kept short and practical
* Eyes: Steel-gray, steady and assessing
* Skin: Weathered from years on patrol; faint scar across his jaw from a dockside knife fight
He carries himself like a man who measures every room before entering it. His gaze lingers a moment too long on doors, exits, rooftops—habits of a former watchman. When others grow loud, he grows quiet.
His expression rarely shifts, but when he listens, he gives complete attention. People often find themselves speaking more than they intended under that steady gaze.
He smells faintly of incense and oiled leather
History
Antonius Block was born and raised in Niole Dra, a place of polished marble towers and shadowed alleyways. From a young age he understood that the city had two faces: one for nobles and merchants, and another for those who bled in its streets.
His father was a dock laborer who drank too much and spoke too little. His mother stitched burial shrouds for a modest temple, and as a child Antonius sometimes helped deliver them. He learned early that death was neither monster nor mystery. It was a certainty. Quiet. Patient. Fair in a way that people never were.
At sixteen, he joined the City Watch.
The work was brutal and clarifying. He broke up dockside riots, dragged plague victims from collapsing tenements, and stood grim-faced at public executions. He became known for his composure around the dead. While others turned away, Antonius closed eyes, folded hands, and ensured the bodies were treated with dignity.
During an arcane smuggling investigation, he met Eugenios Fizzlehelm, a sharp-witted gnome wizard retained by the Watch for difficult magical cases. Where Antonius was reserved and methodical, Eugenios was brilliant and excitable, forever muttering theories mid-sentence. Their temperaments should have clashed—but instead, they balanced.
Together they uncovered uncomfortable truths: evidence that certain noble houses were quietly shielding criminal enterprises, that investigations were being redirected, that suspects of "high birth" slipped free while commoners paid the price. Reports disappeared. Witnesses recanted. Superiors grew evasive.
Antonius began to understand something bitter: the law he served was not the law that ruled the city.
When a case involving grave tampering and forbidden magic was abruptly shut down—on orders traced to a noble patron—Antonius felt something inside him fracture. Justice in Niole Dra was selective. Death, at least, was not.
He resigned from the Watch two years before everything unraveled for Eugenios.
Seeking meaning beyond corrupted chains of command, Antonius turned increasingly toward the temple of Wee Jas. The Ruby Sorceress taught that death was sacred, orderly, and inviolable. Magic and mortality were not tools for the powerful—they were principles governed by law. In her doctrine, Antonius found what the Watch no longer offered: structure without favoritism. Judgment without bribery.
His favoured saying of the priestess’s: "We do not fear death. We enforce its proper place."
He trained quietly. Studied rites. Sat vigil beside the dying. Learned that death was not cruelty—it was balance.
Then, recently, word reached him.
Eugenios Fizzlehelm had been reassigned.
Officially, it was a promotion: an "independent investigative post" in a rural district far from the city’s political tensions. Unofficially, everyone knew what it was. A removal. A silencing. A way to bury inconvenient curiosity without bloodshed.
And now—Eugenios had reportedly gone missing.
No official notice. No public inquiry. Just rumors drifting back to the city like smoke: a burned cottage laboratory, frightened villagers, strange symbols found carved into cellar stones. Then nothing.
Antonius felt the old weight settle in his chest—the same one he carried when cases were buried and truth was denied.
He had left the Watch believing he had stepped beyond corruption. But the rot had followed his friend into the countryside.
Now Antonius prepares to leave Niole Dra once more—not as a watchman bound by compromised authority, but as a cleric of Wee Jas.
If Eugenios lives, Antonius will find him.
If Eugenios is dead, Antonius will see that his death was rightful—or avenged.
And if some cult or hidden power believes it can twist death into a political convenience, then Antonius Block will remind them:
Death belongs to the Ruby Sorceress alone.

[ +- ] Personal items
Holy Symbol
Antonius’s holy symbol is a small ruby-inlaid skull medallion, worn on a black cord around his neck.
It once belonged to the temple in Niole Dra where he first trained. He grips it unconsciously when confronted with death, dishonesty, or moral compromise.
When he channels divine magic, the ruby catches light unnaturally — glinting even in dimness.
Practical Gear
Antonius travels prepared:
* A watchman’s whistle, kept though he no longer serves.
* A leather-bound investigator’s notebook, originally a gift from Eugenios Fizzlehelm. Filled with precise handwriting and sketches of strange symbols.
* A small red wax candle and flint — he lights it during vigils or before difficult decisions.
* A simple grave-shroud cloth square, folded neatly in his pack, to cover the faces of the dead when necessary.
* Manacles — a reminder that justice sometimes requires restraint before judgment.

For a custom D&D 5e character sheet, I basically borrowed someone else's modification of the original form-fillable version located here, in the Public Repository of Custom Game Sheets thread. There a clickable button to "Create character" which will begin the character creation process; maybe save it as a test character template if you want to use it in other games. Caveat: You may need to study the bbcode if you want to make modifications. Trial-and-error might work, too.
As for Amnestria, I can actually change some of her language selections to include Keolish. I only picked draconic and giant as I figured they'd be what scholars would know in order to broaden their access to material. I think I will drop draconic and instead know Common (Keolish) as it gives greater flexibility in origins.
I don't mind not being in the Dungeon Busters to begin with, as I was merely thinking of some connection and reason for traveling to Hochoch. I do think I would want to have journeyed from Gorna because it avoids the complicated Orlane factor, and it would make sense if Amnestria traveled with Dell because on her own she would probably die a gruesome horrible death from a loose pebble.
I think if Amnestria were to be related to Cecily Raptor, I might change the "librarian researcher" background to instead be something like a "librarian accountant." Her initiation into the organization could be to go Hochoch and help Olpert set up the Dungeon Busters office; maybe Amnestria kept bugging her family to let her join her great-great-great-great-grandmother's esteemed group, so some deal was made to send her "somewhere safe" where she won't get in the way. And Amnestria knows this and is almost insulted that her family thinks she can't make it, which would compel her to join everyone in going to Orlane. If that can be the case, I would like to pick up a modified Flaw from the Guild Artisan background, "I would kill to acquire recognition for my abilities without relying on the Raptor name."
Finally, I wasn't sure if having a familiar at the start was acceptable since there's a cost involved. Amnestria only has 10 gold after character creation and no brass brazier. If it's okay to handwave a familiar as something she could have done prior, I'd happily choose a fey burrowing owl.

Finally, I wasn't sure if having a familiar at the start was acceptable since there's a cost involved. Amnestria only has 10 gold after character creation and no brass brazier. If it's okay to handwave a familiar as something she could have done prior, I'd happily choose a fey burrowing owl.
