Traveller TIME PERIOD and LOCATION

What time-frame from the Traveller canon should we use? I'm leaning toward 1111, just after the conclusion of the Fifth Frontier War, as a starting point. But 1105 or some Imperial Year prior to the war is also possible.

I'm also thinking Glisten/GLISTEN as a starting point, with District-268 (subsector) a frontier area ripe for exploration. But there are many other possibilities and we could really start anywhere you want.

Discuss!

I'm ok with any start date and location.

I think there is a lot of action in the District-628 subsector.

The timeframe ... how about 1112, a year after the cessation of hostilities? My thinking is it takes a year for things are settle down and people are mustering out (if they were war term) some are returning to home worlds. Things are still in flux, but not as much as just after the end of the war. Just my two centavos on the time frame.

GLISTEN is a good start point, class A starport, high Tech Level but also a high population. Sort of puts the characters at a well funded start world that has Universities and the Imperial Government or Corporations. It is an asteroid belt system.

Sounds like GLISTEN is a good start point.

Good idea to start a year after the war. I can see my character, Dr. Rohan Yala, mustering out and looking for a job. He was drafted after getting the boot from his University. Who better to draft than an unemployed college professor?

I like the idea of being on the frontier after war. Glisten also works for me.

Right after a war sounds great. Location-wise, anywhere they have good pubs is fine with my PC. :-)

On Glisten is The Glisten Institute of Planetological Studies If we're to start at Glisten or in its vicinity this would be a logical substitute for Muns' suggestion of the Caranda Collegiate University.

If we want Regina as a start point, that puts us along the frontier with the Zhodani (who just lost the 5th Frontier War) and the Vargr (who mostly allied with the Zhodani, though not universally). So its a war-torn frontier.

1112 by the canon calendar seems a good year to start. Enough time from the end of the war to account for military background characters to have been de-mobilized. And enough time also to account for some disruption in the work force in general. Post-war recession and all that.....

I think Glisten is a very good suggestion for a starting point. It is out of the area of the FFW and close to Sector 628, so in a way it is like being in Panama during WW2, you know there is a big war going on, by the restrictions on certain supplies and Soldiers and Sailors all around in uniform, but it is still pleasant and there are parties and a good time downtown in the bars and pubs. If this works for a concept of where Glisten is in relation to the Fifth Frontier War

Here is a map I developed from the Traveller map with an overlay of the old GDW FFW wargame.
