Röc is trying Drakonheim's version of tea, which is both sweeter and more astringent than the delta version.

There is a rapid light knocking at the door in a pattern that Röc almost has become familiar with. Tilly gets up from the sofa and goes to the door. She opens it.

Two men duck in, both having to lower their heads to get under the lintel.

Immortal Serpent and Bayard know each other, and the folks already in the room: Tilly, Vinsenz, Dolan, Gurtha, Brigon. What about that … lizard guy? They don't know him. Looks comfortable in here, though. Not a menace.

Serpent, Bayard, are you now having second thoughts about bolting to this refuge with the possibility of an ancient evil following you here? Flight was not a voluntary choice — whatever That was, it instilled in you such bitter panicked fear that you could not confront it.

"*That* was a demon."

Immortal Serpent emphasized continuing the conversation he and Bayard had as they flew from the great threat. Stepping into the relative safety of the building he greeted his companions with a smile, and a curious look at the lizard man.

"A naga, as I live and breath. I had thought your kind extinct. Not a pure blood though, pity? No matter, if you are welcome here you are good folk." The Storm Priest said without missing a beat as he came to rest sitting for a brief moment trying to catch his breath. "I am the Immortal Serpent." He said by way of introduction with a courteous bow of his head. "Mind, I would shake your... claw, but I am charged up from our flight." Crackling arcs of high voltage electricity sparked from the priest as if to drive the point home.

It was difficult to tell which had more difficulty getting through the low door—the not-inconsiderable Bayard in his full plate armor or his enormous halberd. One could imagine the doorframe being scraped and bent out of shape as the warrior squeezed his way in behind Immortal Serpent.

It isn’t often we have cause to run for our lives! he said to Serpent once safely inside. It made for a merry chase! Next time we’ll be better prepared.

He laughed thunderously, as if it were indeed a great joy to have run helter skelter through the city streets to avoid losing their lives.

Ale, innkeeper! If you take credit that is…

Tilly laughs. She's a good friend of Bayard's, a comrade-in-arms. A potent witch. You're in her house, her sitting room, with its comfortable chairs and sofa and a low table spread with cold dinner: sliced sausage, apples, apricots, tea. Not a tavern at all. "No ale in here, you know that," she half-scolds. "What brings you in such haste? We thought you'd be prowling the streets in search of skeletons to smite. Serpent, you said a … demon?"

A...naga? "Not a pure blood"? Röc feels like the minority who's getting praised for being better than "their kind". From what Röc's seen of Drakonheim, his kind isn't any more barbaric than civilization.

The house is getting crowded. Röc can't help but remember their patrol they're supposed to be attending to. If someone's getting dragged out of their house while Röc's sitting around lounging...

"Um...should we be going?" Röc says, glancing at their dwarf comrades.

"Ar, let's have a quick bite," Gurtha says. "Then we'll get back out there. Right, Brigon? And you two, Serpent and Bayard: you look piss-scared. What about a demon?"

One of these days I’ll stock your cellar properly Tilly. No more of that weak tea for weak men. Proper stuff! Bayard said smiling as he slammed his bulk down into a chair.

Never mind a demon. Only demon you need to worry about is my stomach if I can’t get a rusk of bread and some soup soon. I’m starving.

Anyway, where are you in such a hurry to get?
Jun 15, 2026 8:52 pm
"Definitely a demon. Thing had control over the undead! But I am keen on going anywhere but back there."
Jun 16, 2026 1:15 am
"Ah come na, Bayard, you're taking the piss. Out on patrol is where we needs to get," Gurtha urges/wheedles the much bigger man. "Right, Till?"

"Right, right," old Tilly cackles. "But steer way far from demons, lads. You, too, new boy." She smiles at Röc in that way that primates do, a threat-not-threat display.

"Well... we could go group up to kill that demon."

Immortal Serpent offers as he finds a strip of meat to eat.

Röc is uneasy. His dwarf companions share his orders, but he's unsure about the new guests. Hunting a demon would be an even longer, more dangerous distraction than sitting here. Still, the dwarves seem friendly with everyone here. And Röc figures he won't get far without trusting his comrades-in-arms.

"Orders for me are to avoid patrols whenever possible, Röc says. "Not sure what the demon is, but unless they're pulling people out of their homes, they're not priority."

A few minutes pass. People tentatively eat, but the room is uneasy with silent tension between the three options presented: loiter here, patrol to defend the citizens from skeletons, or undertake a possibly suicidal search to destroy a demon.
Jun 19, 2026 7:59 pm
Immortal Serpent stands up from his seat, reapplied his ablutions and leans up against the door. "Been here too long, lives are at stake we must get moving."

No rest for the wicked, weary, hungry, or recently demon chased, eh? Guess there’s nothing for it old friend, Bayard said, patting his stomach, I’ll have to take care of you some other time!

I am willing to split this thread in twain, if people do not agree on a course of action by Monday. That's perfectly ok for me.

Where is everyone going, out of curiosity? Asking to see if Röc would join them.

The demon is something new. To me, at least. The skeletal bastards are known, and we know how to crush their skulls the same as one covered in skin. I say we help the citizens as well. Take care of the demon later Bayard said, shouldering his halberd to make ready.

"Yes, I agree. Anyone else coming? Its not highly profitable but we will at least live through it."

Röc glances towards their dwarf companions. The two newcomers weren't here for the planning, but it can't help to have more soldiers by their side...right?

"Okay then," Röc says, "Let's get going. Together."
