Having Trouble With Setting Up Game.

This may just be my ignorance in regards to how the cite works, but when I created my Call Of Cthulhu game (The Devil's Daughter), whenever I click on the forum button in the bottom right hand corner, it brings me to the site's main forum instead of my game's own forum. I also click the button to make the game private and nothing happen, it just stays stuck on public.

It just feels a bit bugged, but again I'm not entirely sure. Any help would be appreciated.

I assume https://gamersplane.com/games/5234/ is the game in question. I can see that you've given your game a title, selected the system, and picked character sheets. I'm not entirely sure what's affecting your game, so we'll need to investigate further.

When I was setting up the game at first, I accidentally imputed the wrong link for the recruitment thread, I got stuck on an infinite loading screen (I had to reload the site to get out of it) once I edited the correct link back in, I clicked on the forum button (as you can do and see if it works for yourself) and it just brings me to the main site and not a sub forum for the game. Maybe I glitched it somehow?

Can confirm the behavior. Clicking on "(Read the forum)" button on the game's Details page sends you to https://gamersplane.com/forums/ while the link inserted into the line is https://gamersplane.com/forums/-1 .

I've had this issue. Created a board, clicked on it, and it just takes me back to the main forum.

I hope this isn't some kind of site wide glitch, that'd be really unfortunate if new games couldn't be created, well, "created" in the sense they can't be played due to not having access to the subforum feature.

It sounds like the endless loop you experienced might have contributed to a failed setup of your game. While we look into this, are you able to create a new game to replace the problematic one? That should at least get you going while we investigate.

As a workaround, you might also be able to add a forum from the Administrative Panel, but unfortunately to access it you need at least one working forum somewhere else. If someone can make you are temporary GM in another game, you should be able to navigate to the Panel and add a new forum through it. (Unless this bug completely bricked the system and you won't even see the original game in it.) If you're willing to experiment, I'm happy to set you as GM for one of my test games!

PS: although I do think the main forum just failed to create, since I can't find any public forums with IDs between 13086 and 13105, which yours would be in. Panel probably won't help if so. :(

I can get to my Details page, but clicking the Forum button takes me back to the main forum list.

I just tried it as you can see and it still didn't work, so I'd hold off so we don't end up accidentally spamming the site with broken games.

Did you experience another endless loop somewhere during the process? Or did this appear to go okay, only to end up in the same bugged state?

Very strange. If I look at the recent games list I see that both of JospehStrange's games have bugged as well as Forever_Lost's game (as mentioned above). But BedzoneII made a game after that and that one is working just fine.

I also made a game yesterday (set as private so not in the public list) and it's working fine.

If you go to https://gamersplane.com/forums/ and scroll down to "Game Forums", do you see your newly-created game(s) listed there?

Yep, I was testing if the problem was connected to making new games. But my works fine, and Qralloq's new game works fine.

Please try CancerMan's latest suggestion and tell us what you see.

Bookmarks also don't work for these games, so I'm fairly certain the forums for them just weren't created at all.

The only commonality I can see between the three games (which also doesn't apply to the other two) is that they were made by relatively new users, so maybe it could be helpful if someone else with a new account could test it. (Maybe on the staging site to not multiply the games too much. Speaking of which, mods, some probably-bot is spamming all over there.)

I just created a new account (Chal) and created a test game and it seems to have worked: Details | Forum

You both have quite long game descriptions and char gen info with formatting or images. It's possible some character or string of characters is causing a bug during creation. I'd recommend trying to create a simple test game like I did (maybe use the exact settings I used). If it works, then you can edit any of the details later to change it from a test to the game you want. At that point the forum will have been created, so I think you'll be good. If it doesn't work, we'll know it is something specific to your account or device or location, etc, in which case the site owner might need to troubleshoot that.

Scratch that. Trying to edit in the Details and I'm just stuck with the white/orange die loading icon.

I've tried to edit one field at a time, to see if the issue lies in a specific field that I'm filling in, but I can't even edit the title. I just get stuck on the loading icon, and then nothing updates when the page is refreshed.

Maybe it's the length of the title? I just tried with your game title and it got stuck, but then I tried with a shorter title "STAR WARS: Tempest Feud" and it worked.

I tried copying all your details (other than the title length) and it seems to have worked on my game. Hope this solves it for you.

For the broken game, I'd edit the title to something like "Broken Game: Please Delete" and @Keleth - the site owner - can hopefully delete it for you.

Seems likely (good work!)--I noticed that inspecting the new game page html implies there's a 100 character limit set:

What's weird is that something like: "The Devil's Daughters - An Late 1600s Call Of Cthulhu Oneshot" looks like it is <100 characters but encountered the issue (though that may just be why it's not triggering an error message if the accepted field length is shorter)...

I've changed the title of the buggy game to "Broken Game: Please Delete"

Upon some practical testing, it appears the title breaks at 51 symbols.

Interestingly, the other title-related error there - the repeat title - doesn't seem to work properly either, although instead of showing infinite loading it just lets you repeat game titles.

I've just done this, and it's worked and I've changed both of the other game titles to Broken Game: Please Delete. Thanks so much for the help everyone.

Random question: would a GM create a character sheet for themselves as a GM, so that they can post under that title/persona in their game?

Also, I'm trying to delete a sub-forum on my game board, but the Delete button won't do anything when clicked. Any ideas on how I can remove the subforum?

Huh. Just made a subforum in my test-space game and encountered the same thing. I thought this was fixed? Or maybe there was trick-fix to it. I remember there being thread about this issue before.

Looked through the first few pages of "Bugs", but there are only threads about subforums disappearing and being inaccessible. I do remember multiple people asking to delete some subforms because they couldn't do it though..

Hopefully there'll be some sort of fix for it, if it's occurred before.

You might be thinking about this thread. It certainly has been reported before, but I don't think there is any official fix (yet).
