OpenParadigm's RWBY ttrpgPrivate3 / weekSterfteerst
Running B2, the Keep on the Borderlands using Paradigm's RWBY ttrpg.
Adventure and lore changed and expanded to fit the metaphysics of rwby, and use of firearms.
Rules changed to accomodate the adventure tone, and old dnd enemy stat blocks.

System
Paradigm's RWBY ttrpg is a system derived from the show RWBY focused on:
-cinematic actions
-mechanically rewarding spectacle
-cool transforming weapons
-and representing the setting of RWBY

premise
But this isn’t a RWBY game.
You’re not on remnant, you’re in a world modelled after old dnd, the osr and history. Tough technologically, anything made between 1900-1999 would be current tech in this setting.
And you’re no huntsman. You’re among the 10% of people that can manifest their souls into a defensive barrier, and a single unique power. But you aren’t among those blessed by society, you’re a vagrant, a criminal, dispossessed or otherwise unwanted, leaving you to a life of mercenary work.
This power, and the mercenary status define you as MRCS, mercenaries by trade, with powers, overengineered weapons and more often than not ridiculous color-coded outfits.

And to better work with the adventure and premise, I have some of my own rules to introduce:
[ +- ] My changes and erratas for the game rules.
Some Notable Contents
-violence, blood, the reality of living in medieval society, tensions between meaningfully different hominid species, moral ambiguity, blatant aura-farming, and heavy dutch influence.

Looking for up to 4 players.
Do note i am a first time dm, so any and all feedback during the campaign is appreciated.

I like the nostalgia of your setting, which of course I am familiar, but I have never heard of the system. I am new to this site and hoping to get involved and learn something new.

Tentatively interested,I've wanted to try playing with the ROC system for a while now and thought it might be fun to explore Remnant further (though I stopped following the show after volume 5),but the setting you put forth seems interesting as well.

Still,to set expectations for anyone else who might be interested:

Do you anticipate that this will be a fairly brief campaign (like a season of a show),or do you dare to dream of a long-running,large-scale campaign?

Any adherence expected to the locations/planes/species of any D&D setting (though I understand Keep on the Borderlands is supposed to be setting-agnostic),or will the worldbuilding be original to you/built as a group?

What kind of adversity do you plan for the party to face, broadly? (In terms of species, abilities, factions and so on)

Any intention for the party or the world at large to adhere to RWBY-like themes? (mythology, folklore, literature, colors and so on) I think it'd be a fun decision, but that's up to you.

Not knowing the system is fine, i'd be surprised if someone here has played it, and the way i hacked it will change how it plays.

I would ask which part of the setting you are familiar with, since i am mixing a couple things.
-a lot of tone, how society works and conflicts from older dnd and fantasy. along with including some of the classic fantasy races.
-rwby, from which i am just taking dust, semblances, aura and how faunus work
-the 1900s, which i use for what tech exists in the world
-or any combination of the above?

appreciate the interest.

Keep on the Borderlands with the Caves of Chaos were in the first box set issued by D&D. This is still one of the better modules. I have used it in Hoebrew settings, and friends have used it in theirs.

Cool. I will mention my hack deviates in a more lethal way to the original.

For Remnant, i just feel the metaphysics of the setting have more potential than the setting itself does (though i have watched the entire show thus far). Potential that i am trying to live up to.

If i have anything, it is ambition.
There's no set ending for this campaign, and i'll likely keep the setting once it ends.

I'm using my own take on some classic fantasy races, among which halflings, elves and dwarves are playable.
And keeping the broad lines of what's in and around the keep + borderlands.

Then i fit it all to fit the metaphysics of rwby, having dust, semblances and aura.
With some of my own changes on who has it and what sort of semblances there are.
And fitting the last playable race, faunus, with the others.

Then taking tech from the 1900s, doing what fantasy tends to do blending the early middle ages to renaissance, but with 1900-1999 instead. to have the guns that are expected, but keep things analog enough to fit the dnd elements.

And then filling in the rest as we go along with what makes sense, and what fits where we want the campaign to go.
Nellancholy says:

The party are MRCS, a mercenary under class with access to abilities most lack.
Where that leads you depends on player choice, but in general it will involve mercenary work.
So acquiring gold from dangerous location, hostile humanoids, hostile beasts.
And in the keep orcs and goblins are among known threats.

The keep does have the Castellan, the bailiff and the captain of the guard, each with their own ideals, who form the leading authorities in the region.

It's mythological, but in ways that differ from and are in some extends opposite to RWBY.
As MRCS it is expected to be more colorful, you have skills beyond the average sellsword to advertise, they tend to look like huntsmen, in rwby terms.
npc MRCS will follow that as well.
and i have the temptation to use colors in some of the names.

Interesting, then i hope you'll enjoy what i've done to it.
I've heard about as much off its qualities.

You and @Nellancholy are invited.

Thank you very much. I am still trying to learn how to navigate this site.

I don't have any real exposure to Keep on the Borderlands, but everything else sounds up my alley, so I'll toss my hat in the ring.

That's alright, i'd be happy to help where i can.
To join the game since you are invited, i believe there should be an option somewhere.
Haven't used that in a while myself, so maybe someone else here can help with that.

Did you place the clarifiers at the top of this thread; and if so, how did you do that?

I also have no idea where to find the invite or the actual game.

Dawg I am SO IN. Love the vibe you're going for here, Shameless aura farming as a mechanic is cool as hell. If I'm invited, call me when you start
