Thud!

Coming….
Jan 13, 2026 1:55 am
Berith lands with a thud, her head smacking the ground hard enough for her to see stars. Spitting dirt out of her mouth, she rolls over and sits up to wipe the grit from her eyes. The torch burns fitfully in the dirt nearby. This place reeks. The acrid tang burning her sinuses clears her swimming head. That and the quickly forming headache.

Berith touches her sore head where she hit it, and looks to where the torch landed. She grabs the torch, grateful that it stayed lit. Knowing that anyone near would have seen the torch light and been alerted to her fall, she still doesn't want to move away from the slide until she gets her bearings.

Gripping her sword tightly, she wants to wave the torch from left to right and see where she is at. Trying to quiet her breathing, she strains her ears to see if she can hear anything.
OOC:
I mainly want to get my bearings and see where I landed. Does Berith see or hear anything? Depending on what happens, she may yell up to her friends but wants to see what's happening first.

Looking around the room, Berith finds herself in a cave of some kind with natural stone walls. It has obviously been opened up to form a squarish space about 25-30 feet across. Most of the room is occupied by a wide deep depression in which she sits, along with the remains of other who must have fallen through. There are at least four skeletons in various states of dissarray around her and she seems to be laying on another. They haven't moved since she's come to.

The sound reverberates through her skull, making is hard to concentrate. The chittering, babble is coming from the only exit she can see from this space, a 20' opening leading out somewhere but her light doesn't extend far enough to illuminate more than just the entrance. You KNOW something is there in the darkness. You can feel it. And you can feel the terror of the lamb when it hears the wolf prowling in the brush rising within you.

Something viscous and black oozes into sight. It thinkens and grows into a flexing tentacle which extends back into the dark. It noses about in the air questingly, and after a moment splits appear across it's surface to reveal many small yammering mouths and crazed eyes which fix their gaze upon you.

Berith sits in a depression about 5' deep. There are several skeletons and rock around. The ground is relatively soft, covered in a layer of crushed rock and sand which seems to have cushioned her impact. From the size of the "tentacle" she guesses that she's in really dire straights.

OOC:
You can take a "free" action, call out, prepare something etc. Once you post that we'll wait to see what the others do in response to your falling/free action.
Jan 13, 2026 4:16 am
The tentacle attention breifly shifts upwards as you hear a muffled call from above. Thak. Calling down to you from above.

OOC:
I'm assuming it's ok to respond to people in the main chat as if I was yelling back to them?

I suppose I should verify if I am too far down to hear them clearly?

You don’t think you were sliding for very long. You can’t be farther than 50’ away. Maybe less. You see the mouth of the chute above you, but given your current position and the chutes slant, you can’t see them.

If you yell, they’ll hear you.

Now that I'm down here, can I see from the slope if I would be able to climb up far enough to grab a rope if they tossed an end down? Or is it too slick that I can't even do that?
Jan 14, 2026 4:37 am
The ceiling is about 15' up from where you sit now, so about 10' above you if you stand. If they had enough rope, you could of course climb up. Assuming the thing in the dark is happy to wait for you to escape. >: )

We are kind of living in an extended moment in time here.

As you call out, the tendril focuses it's gaze back towards you, and you can see it's base beginning to thicken out as something propells fowards out of the darkness....

You swallow down the bile rising in your throat as fear sqeezes you stomach.
OOC:
It is coming...

Start thinking about what you might do here as you will act before it does. Still waiting for what the others do, but if they dither or don't take immediate action to get down here it's going to be on like Donkey Kong.

Chanting a quick prayer in her head that this is not how she dies, Berith is flooded with relief as she hears Borgo and Thak shouting and she sees a rope lowered down. Moving quickly she sticks the torch in the ground the best she can and sheathes her sword, hoping she's not making a dreadful mistake. She launches herself at the rope and attempts to climb her way back up.
OOC:
I'm leaving the torch but hoping it will provide enough light for me to still see the rope. I'm heading for the rope whichever way I can. Borgo mentioned about tying his rope on as well so I'm not sure if there is 1 rope or 2 ropes and if I need to attempt to shimmy my way up the slide first. Sorry I don't know what type of check this one would be.

Rolls

Dexterity check to grab the rope - (1d20-1)

(9) - 1 = 8

Strength check to climb - (1d20+2)

(14) + 2 = 16

The rope slithers down the chute and dangles down before nearly touching the ground. You quickly leap for it as soon as it appears and begin working your way up the rope. You try not to focus of the physical insanity of the thing coming for you, but you catch glimpses of glossly black bulk with lolling eyes and gibbering mouths and it flows and undulates toward you.

You focus all your efforts on getting up the roap and get almost entirely up into the chute with only your legs still dangling down.

And then the creature's caterwalling beginsto rise in volume and start to scratch the inside of your skull with knives.

On your next turn Berith will need to roll a Wisdom Save against DC12. Also include another roll of 1d8.

Okay! We'll move back to the main thread with my next post there. I thought I could move this thread, but I can't find where that is anymore. Heh.

We're going in intiative order (for the most part)

You do not have permission to post in this thread.
