Man was not born to a world of justice.
But he can create such a world!

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Follow an adventure path that takes you across the Young Kingdoms and even to stranger lands.
๐Ÿ‰ Test your strength and cunning against sorcerers, demons, curses, and worst of all... mortal men.
๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ Experience enthralling and challenging modules using a rules-lite system based on the source material!

Since before the beginning of this world, the gods of Order and of Chaos have quarreled. Unable to take direct action against ond another, they turn to mortal agents to enact their wills. You are such agents, blessed and doomed by the very gods that use you as puppets. Through these strange stories you will have the opportunity to shape your own destinies, though your choices may just come back to haunt you.

Using the Black Sword Hack rules, we will play to level five; a total of eleven challenging modules taken from the various editions of Stormbringer RPG and Elric! We will level an linearly increasing number of stories, each escalating the dangers to you and to the Young Kingdoms.

In this campaign you will experience:

โšœ๏ธ An adventure path directly inspired by the writings of Michael Moorcock.
โš–๏ธ A balance between role-play, combat, and exploration.
๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš–๏ธ Neutral referee who prefers intuitive rulings to strict rules.
๐Ÿ‰ Evocative combats with life-or-death stakes!

Come and join me on this once-in-a-lifetime adventure! Here's what other players have said about me:

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ "What really stood out about him as a gamemaster was his ability and willingness to allow player character actions and decisions to matter."
๐ŸŽ™๏ธ "Charles runs flavor rich games that are always full of surprises. He pivots fantastically between different tones, and he understands the rules of each system without handcuffing the game to them."
๐ŸŽ™๏ธ "Charles is a FUN, patient, and supportive GM who invests time and effort into new players without letting the table become a classroom."

The PitchYou are not Champions Eternal, but you are amongst the most capable in the Young Kingdoms. Set in Moorcock's world popularized by Elric of Melnibonรฉ, you will have the opportunity to explore many strange tales of danger and intrigue; you will help save fair maidens, set sail with vicious pirates, explore bizarre planes of existence, and find a balance between the forces of Law and Chaos. I have selected eleven modules from the Stormbringer RPG and prepared them to be run using a rules-lite system, Black Sword Hack (which has a free SRD). You will explore bustling ports, mysterious seas, blazing deserts, and shady slave markets and back alleys!

Please note, is a very linear adventure path! Do not confuse this with a sandbox or an emergent narrative.
Trigger Warnings and ThemesThis game will include triggers related to violence, kidnapping, sacrifice, character death, and slavery; many of these are to be condemned. The world in which you find yourself is full of ancient gods, warring forces, and active cultists; evil deeds can be found around every dark corner.

This game WILL NOT include the following triggers: sexual assault, violence against children*, suicide. This is an incomplete list, and will include other triggers as decided by the group.
* That is not to say bad things will not happen to the youths. It is a rough world. I will not be showing violence against them.

To survive, you must work together! For this reason, your character must have a willingness to work together even with those who might be diametrically opposed.

Game Duration and PacingThis game expects players to post once a day, five times a week. I do not expect the game to move on weekends, as I am usually busy myself. As for the duration, this is a series of eleven modules that are designed to be quite fast; all this to say I would expect it to last a number of years, but it really depends on how quickly you get yourselves killed.

This game will use a private Discord server to encourage speed and ease of play. Black Sword Hack has some rules that are benefited by a quicker communication, such as combat options; the server will help with this.

Who May ApplyThis game is open to any who are interested in this chaotic experience. The table is intentionally inclusive, and will not tolerate any racism, sexism, or any other -ism. Safety is paramount. I reserve the right to prevent any from joining should I feel they are not a good fit, and to remove any players who show the same.

How to ApplySimply reply here, or reach out on the GamersPlane Discord. If you are interested, please share (in bold) an animal fact that you enjoy. If you have questions, I am more than happy to answer before you make a decision. I will utilize an arbitrary method of choosing who joins, which may be the product of the Lords of Chaos. I will select five players, or six if the mood strikes me.

I'm interested!

Also, octopuses have three hearts! Two branchial hearts, one for each gill, to circulate blood to and from the gills, and one systemic heart, to distribute the oxygenated blood to the rest of the body. They also have nine "brains", with a central one in the head and eight ganglion clusters, one in each limb. The "brains" in the limbs are something like the nerve clusters humans have in their guts, apparently; so it could perhaps give vague impressions, but probably not create representations or conscious states, which the central brain likely does.

And Cephalopod means Head-Foot!

Per the internet, which is never wrong ๐Ÿ™‚: "The Bloodhound has the most sensitive nose among dog breeds, with an incredible ability to detect scents that is estimated to be up to 100 million times more sensitive than that of humans."

Iโ€™m interested.

This sounds interesting. Doubly so since I just started reading Elric.

Bats (order chiroptera) have two suborders: microchiroptera and megachiroptera. Mini bats are your beady-eyed bug eaters, while mega bats are fox-faced fruit eaters.

Iโ€™m interested!

Kingfishers are one of my favorite animals, due mostly to Gerard Manley Hopkins poem As Kingfishers Catch Fire, but they are also the genesis of the term "halcyon days". In Greek mythology, Alcyone and Ceyx were killed by the gods for calling each other by the pet names Zeus and Hera. The gods then turned them into "halcyon" birds (ie kingfishers). This transformation is linked to the concept of "halcyon days," a period of calm weather during winter when the birds nest.

Oh. . . Elric is a favorite of mine.

Add me to the interested list.

Camel spiders aren't actually camels or spiders, but they are huge, hairy, have eight legs and are the stuff of nightmares if they make it into your tent (despite being technically harmless).

In tears she poured out words with a faint voice,
lamenting her sad woe, as when the swan
about to die sings a funereal dirge.
Ovid

It is an ancient belief that swans sing a beautiful song just before their death.

Can't say I know the system, but I love a sword and sorcery adventure.

You can teach a rat to play basketball.

Alright, that's a good bit of interest! I'll be accepting a few folks to whom I owe a game, at least one that was recommended, one that I've been eyeing, and one that fate decided.

  1. Gremlin
  2. Honor_Over_All
  3. Alordis
  4. mana_miser_98
