Alordis, it looks like you are casting a wide net. May I suggest considering AD&D 1ed/Kara Tur, in other words, AD&D1ed Oriental Adventures?

Fantasy, preferably 2024 PHB D&D or Amber Diceless (which works really well with PbP). Oriental Adventures, either Japanese or Chinese based, would be fantastic; South Asian or 1001 Arabian Nights style even better. Eberron, Dark Sun, or Planescape all great too, though had two Dark Sun adventure die of GM real life complications in the last couple of months. Just don't want to learn yet another system so a bit limited on rules for the nonce.

I would also be interested in some sort of cultural game, ie primarily elves in the party as this is where the adventure starts in the setting.
Or orc, or dwarfs, or.... Anything but the kitchen sink selection of ancestries/rases/species

@Avraham yeah trying to get broad feedback- Oriental Adventures is the one I almost included but there are so many quite different versions of it out there- some day I will run the Horde modules andbthe 2nd ed Oriental Adventures modules though (but right now they are packed away)

@badbaron - if you want 1001 Nights/ Arabian adventures look up the Al Qadim books- Sha'ir's Handbook might be the single best thing ever published in DND

My only consern with those novels (that I don't know) is improvising people or events that conflights with the canon.
If we play non-canon or if we are introduced to key elements of the canon we have to live by, I have no problems playing with either timeline.

Is there anywhere where I can read a bit about your world?

If/when I run a game in it I will post a lot of the background stuff. Unfortunately the novels are still outlines (plus 16 chapters of the first).

I would avoid novel points in the game. Historical, Empire Z invaded Kingdom Y in 1100 should be fine but Bart the Brave assassinated King Donald with a candlestick in the library i might avoid.

Players are going to want to change events and influence the world so I'd keep them at arms length from your story because Bart the Brave grtting murdered in a bar before he can assassinate King Donald is going to be a royal piss off for you.

OOC:
I just want to say that I really appreciate the many polles and how well they reflect a snapshot of the current interests.
For example, I was pleasantly surprised to see the large interest in the Eberron setting.

Yes-- I hope others looking to start games find it helpful at well.

Once we get a few more votes I'll draw up some specific game write ups to pitch.

I'm personally surprised so many people like Dark Sun. It's been 20 years since I last played it I think, or heard much about it. Same could almost be said of Planescape (one of my favorite D&D settings), but that received a 5E dustoff at least.

I've never played it; I've always wanted to :)

I always wanted to play with more psionic campaigns but none of the others in my group were integrated. I also like the stigma and consequences of magic in that world. Plus the post apocalyptic aspect is just another point I want to explore

The post-apocalyptic part was what drew me too (said the guy with the Dark Souls avatar to no one's surprise). I have played Earthdawn for 28 years now which is another post-apocalyptic fantasy setting, and it's always remained my favorite game ever. I just love the more grim settings, like the Conan novels when they got dark. The psionics I had honestly forgotten about, but you're right, that was also kind of special at the time.

Just some of my thoughts
I would argue "defend citadel, rally the forces" isn't quite a typical RPG game. But
1. I've been a player in such a game and I really liked how our DM managed to make it a great experience while staying within 5e rules
2. Since Alordis claim to to have run the game before I trust it was just as great experience
3. I hope there will still be sufficient amount of typical RPG content
