You've been looking forward to lunch with Aja. As the four of you hustle along the narrow trail toward his cottage, you're eager to see him.

Hazel takes one look at the shimmering wall and from a good ten feet back tosses a pebble at it, at an angle just in case.

Galen approaches the shimmering wall timidly.
"wh..what is this?" he asks to no one in particular.
Very slowly and carefully, he stands close to the wall, merely inches away from it. He smells it, looks at it, tries to sense it. Then, he unsheathes his dagger and prods the wall very gently.

The dagger point slides sideways on the shimmering barrier. A barely perceptible squeaking noise as it does so.

Looking at the barrier and then his companions, Bran proffers I think we should see how large this barrier is. as he turns off the trail to follow the barrier to their left.
Nov 7, 2025 11:43 pm
The barrier continues, curving slightly to the right, well off the trail. After at least twenty yards of difficult going in the underbrush and mud, you have a vague sense that the barrier might entirely surround Aja's cottage. Do you continue?

"If we look around, we may be able to find something that is sustaining this barrier. It must either have a limitation on how long it can stay up, or a physical anchor." Lucius offered, frowning in thought.

"three," says a charming voice nearby, "i want to hold him hostage for your assistance."
Looking around, you see a pixie hovering well out of your reach, feir diaphanous wings are a faintly-audible blur. Feir face is small enough to be unreadable at this distance.

"We are but humble folk, and therefore incapable of anything that an esteemed and beautiful lady like you might require...But we are willing, if our ability lacking, to hear what might need to be done." Lucius said carefully, watching the pixie with wary eyes.
Nov 9, 2025 8:06 pm
"Promise!" the pixie insists with what you can only characterize as a pouty tone.
Nov 9, 2025 8:24 pm
"...My lady, you know as well as I that any promise made to a being as enchantingly formidable as yourself, before hearing what is demanded, is a bad idea." Lucius said with a wry grin.
Nov 9, 2025 8:33 pm
Bran growls at the fea, not happy at being pulled in this way into their games.
I am not inclined to making promises to those who use force and threats to secure obedience.
Anyway, why should we help you? What do we get out of this?
It seems to me that you as the initiator of aggression should be the first to make promises. Promise to release the barrier and never do anything like this again against us or our associates.
A promise of payment equal to the value of our aid to you in exchange before we promise to assist you should have been your first step.

"thank you!" The pixie emits a piercing shriek, barely audible, that makes your ears hurt. The shimmering barrier vanishes.
"you may recharge a hex stone by immersing it in running water under ice, until the ice thaws. the water washes out the spell from the stone."
Fey flutters around as fey talks. "my liege wants an old sword that's hidden … well, not hidden, we know where it is … but it's in a part of the Wood that my liege and folk don't go. also the sword is too heavy for me to carry. if i lead you there, can you get it and then bring it to my liege? it is with other treasure too, and you could take that."

"I don't suppose asking why you can't go to that part of the forest would yield any answers?" Lucius inquired casually, rising and dusting himself off with a sigh.
"Well, I would suggest we carry out the promise we've made while we still have daylight. Things that are nocturnal here are rarely nice."

Bran nods as he listens to the conversation then suggests Since we are almost to his house anyhow, how about we stop by Aja before we head out? Where exactly is this sword? Perhaps Aja know a bit about the area. and he casts a meaningful glance at his companions. Best not get to involved in fea plot but if you do then getting council from other is never a bad idea.

Pausing, Lucius looked at her thoughtfully. "I know what people like us can do with names, my lady, so would you be content with mine own only? It is Lucius Veyres."
Nov 13, 2025 12:57 am
"but what if you were to wander off after a will o wisp, and all your friends had my name still? that would be no fair trade," says the pixie.

'The name is Hazel. I agree we should ask a local about the local area."
Hazel will continue up the path to discuss this with Aja. Specifically what's so interesting about these woods that a fae wouldn't enter.

As the head to Aja's house Bran joins the conversation You have already heard my name, Bran. But surely with you as or guide not simply willowisp would be able to enchant us.. Bran attempts fine light flattery, though it is not his forte. He had heard the faerie are sustainable to it though still fickle in their behavior. Out can't hurt to be considered in a favorable light.

Greetings Oliloila, my name is Galen
Then, pointing to the path: Shall we?
Yeah sorry for the mess... was it glass-like? That's how I imagined it. But if it's invisible it can't shimmer, can it? Whatever, you got my meaning :D

You follow the path toward Aja's cottage with the pixie buzzing along beside you. "And you go by the withered oak tree," fey says, "over the top of the triple hill, along the path of white stones. The white stones really are the key thing, you can follow those. Just into the darker part of the Wood and you'll find the door of the vault, beneath a heavy-looking hill. You'll know it by sight."
Aja is sitting on a bench outside the cottage, smoking a pipe. He seems oblivious to the fact that he was briefly imprisoned by a shimmering bubble. Do you clue him in?

Ambling over by Aja, Lucius nodded in a friendly manner to the goatman, settling down besides him. "How has your day been, old man? Enjoying the sunlit hours?"
Nov 25, 2025 3:37 pm
"Aja!" says Aja. "For sure am I. And you? How is you? Would like some tea?" He looks at the pixie, squints. "Hello little folk."
The pixie squeals:"Hi!"
The pixie squeals:"Hi!"
Nov 25, 2025 5:33 pm
Walking up Bran greets Aja before explaining the situation. This pixie has kindly asked us for help in helping them fetch "an old sword" that is in an area of the Wood that the "folk don't go". We are to fetch the sword and bring it to their liege. Apparently the sword is in the "darker part of the Wood". What do you know of that area and have you heard of some sword being lost?
Bran does not want to reveal too much, in case it angers the pixie but hopes Aja can shed some light on either the quest of the area the sword is in.

"Aja," says Aja, "think I that the sword might be an ancient weapon of the fey king's lineage. Sure that one who brings it to the liege's court will win renown. The darker part of the Wood is well known for trolls and dragons, so be cautious. Not with you I won't go … sure?"
Nov 27, 2025 3:24 am
"Dragons and trolls, eh?" To his credit, Lucius seemed to regard that warning seriously, chewing thoughtfully on a piece of grass. "What do you suggest we prepare?"

"Aja," says the goatkin man, "think I you need some dragonbane. Folk say it ward away the fire lizards, they despise the pleasant scent." He shrugs. "The trolls, don't I know what can you do about them."

Bran looks over the pixie and asks Just how far into this dark Forrest will you be accompanying us?
