I bought a Samsung tablet for PDFs but wasn't really happy with it for that purpose, so I'm considering getting something else.

I suppose I have two questions:

1) If you use a PDF reader at your live gaming table, what do you use?

2) What do you use to read PDFs other than a live game session?

I generally read pdfs with xpdf on my linuxbook. The app is very gentle on memory.

Going to get a Kindle Scribe I think for reading pdfs and taking notes with clients.

SumatraPDF for everything. For rare cases when I want to look something up on the phone because I don't have my laptop with me, Xodo.

For gaming, I use my laptop, and my reader of choice is PDF X-Change Editor. If I'm reading for pleasure, I use my iPad and GoodReader for books and PDFs, and Panels for comics.

Big fan of Sumatra on my Surface Laptop; I just use the native Dropbox PDF viewer on my iPad and it works well enough. What didn't you like about the Samsung tablet experience?

I think a clarification on what qualities a PDF viewer needs to have that are specifically used/needed during a live session might narrow down your search.

Personally, on Android I use Librera. It's got a lot of bell and whistles, but rarely use any of those. Prefer it's UI over the few other readers I've tried.

On desktop I just use the default reader that came with the KDE - Okular. The only gripe I have with it that it can't open archives with images (an old go to for manga scanlators) and jumbles up order of chapters in comic book archive formats on an occasion.

I use Xodo on my tablet. I like the fact that I can set the colors to 'inverted' so the white pages become black pages with white text. It messes up all the images, but that's something I can live with.

As I rarely use campaigns as they come out of the box I tend to dump the PDF to doc format so I can rearrange and edit it. This lets me view it on different devices very easily. When I do use PDF I use PDF X-Change on PC and use acrobat or and Ebook readers (ReadEra, EbookDroid) on android as they seem the best at reading mode, text re-flow and image visibility.

My main issue is that my current tablet doesn't have the horsepower to render complicated PDFs, so scrolling through them is a slog. Samsung makes like a million different tablets and I read the wrong reviews and choose poorly.

I might repurpose my own Surface 2 for PDFs, since I'm not using it for much else besides writing. However, it is a bit larger than I need, so I considered getting something smaller and lighter but with enough speed to make scrolling better.

The best fast Samsung tablet for PDFs is the Galaxy Tab S10, particularly the S10+ or S10 Ultra. They have very powerful processors, high-quality Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays, and fast charging. The S9 might be better, though, as it's smaller and won't get in the way. Good for reading PDF's too.
