"I thought you said something about helping!" Frank demands, following you. "We have been and talked to all the 'people in the city' and no one is willing to help." They sound desperate, desperate enough to be pleading with a vampire who just attacked them both for help with their plight.
You are back in tunnels you know, and you can easily find you way home or to your Haven/Harbour from here. You don't know what day it is, but your phone —which should now have signal again— is flat.

Circe was not planning on your opening up and dumping real problems on her, she was prepared to criticise your choices and complain about your behaviour, but finds herself ill-equipped to deal with the complexities of the reality you present —and this is with all the truly weird details redacted.
"So, you are still seeing that guy? What are you plans tonight? Do you plan to bring him back..." She might be intending to say 'to your bed', or just 'here', but chickens out and looks away, confused and not sure what to think.

Dr Johansen did his work under local antithetic, it only being superficial (at least no one is calling it 'only skin deep'). But your zoned out demeanour has them worried and you are kept for a few hours 'for observation'. There is no further mention of your 'boyfriend', your lack of agreement may have been treated as implying some culpability on his part and they are always wary about guys in situations like yours.
You are moved to a room, and must have fallen asleep —they gave you many medications, and some of them may have messed with your mood or head.
At first you think you are alone in the room. It feels empty, but as you look around for something to fix your dry mouth, you notice a figure, standing by the window looking out into the dreary parking lot and the rain. It is dark, but a car's headlights pan past outside and illuminate your visitor.
He is an old man, pale and washed out, his white hair floats around his head like a halo, or like unspun cotton. He is wearing a grey suit and, along with his colourless hair appears almost unreal.
Even staring at him you still get the 'feeling' that the room is empty.
What do you do?
You can mark a Faint Harm of 'Blood Loss' or something similar, and one Serious Harm like 'Scaring wound on your inner thigh', which you can try deal with and eliminate, the 'sutured wound' will heal over the next few days or so.

You sustained 3-Harm from the vampire bite. Emma was spent.
She didn't sleep the night before after staying with David at the hospital. She donated like a pint of her blood to Chablis merely a week ago, and Tara has taken even more from her that morning. No wonder she felt like a shell of herself. Hollowed out, after so much has been taken out of her.
Her body was crying to her to rest, but she still couldn't sleep. She only sank into a dreamless sleep once they slipped something into her IV. It must have been hours. Probably even longer, when she opened her eyes again. At first she thought she was still dreaming. The man standing in her room had a surreal quality to him, as if he has been painted in with a pencil.
Her eyelids dropped shut again. It was probably a hallucination. Drugs, or exhaustion, playing tricks on her.
He was still there when she opened her eyes again, and she let our a long drawn sigh as she pulled herself up on her elbows
"Leave me alone" It was more like a plea than a demand. "I just… want all of you to leave me alone."

Persephone feels the tension in the air as she trauma dumps a bit onto Circe; she sees her little sister squirm uncomfortably. Though the two sisters have always been on good terms, they haven't ever really been confidantes, sharing their personal struggles and traumas. It took Pers years before she told Circe about her assault, for example. Their parents had instilled just too much shame around being anything less than perfect, and mental health was never discussed, so the two girls never learned to communicate that way with each other.
So Persephone lightens the mood. She laughs and eggs Circe on, saying, "Bring him back? Back and what, Circ? Back to smash?" As Circe throws her hands over her face and bursts out laughing, Persephone doubles down. "Or maybe it'll just be a sloppy toppy?"
The two sisters laugh, the tension broken, and Persephone answers more seriously, saying, "if any of that is gonna happen, we'll go to his place, ok? But honestly, after last night, and this morning, and now this afternoon... I'm sore."
Circe protests, "TMI TMI!" but they both laugh anyway. Persephone smiles, secretly thinking, Honey, if you knew the half of it...
She sends another text to Henry, asking if they are still on for tonight at 7, and where they'd like to meet.

Despite the broken tension, Circe is worried, it is like you are a stranger again, all the time spent apart while you worked on your 'project' and the implication of crushing failure only to be turned around into 'great prospects' and emigrating to a foreign country. Your admissions that you are not happy with your job, but can not get out of is not something she can relate to, she has never had a job, but doesn't see why you can't just leave.
She wants to ask you if you are 'being safe', but doesn't know how to, or what to do with an answer, it feels to her like there is more to that question and she does not understand what is going on with you. She lets the laughing and the claims of TMI wash away her questions.
"I could just watch a movie in my room?" She says, not sounding all the enthusiastic about that, but also wanting to be a part of your life and actually get to talk to the people you are ... dating.
Henry replies promptly: "I am getting off work now. I though to come to you?" It is hard to tell over text but he almost sounds disappointed you are asking where to meet.

Emma leaned back against her pillows and started rubbing her temples. She watched the man, studying his faintly translucent form for a long, long while. She didn't want to say anything, but the longer he stayed in her room, the more agitated she became.
Finally, she admitted defeat, and sighed softly:
"…What do you want?"

Persephone frowns at her phone and then regards Circe in thought. She sighs deeply and her shoulders slump.
"I...Damn. I can explain it all, but it's a lot, and some of it is really weird and hard to believe, and well, it's a big hot mess. If you wanna hear it, I can lay it aaaallll out for you. Henry wants to come over here, actually, and he and I are gonna talk about IT. Like, the stuff that's going on with me, and my weird work situation. He and I are dating, but we may also work together to get me out of my bad work commitment. You know?"
She steps forward and puts her hand on Circe's shoulder. She looks at her earnestly and says, "You're my sister and I love you. And all I've done is been a nightmare sister since you got here. And, this weekend, I... something bad happened to me and I... I don't know if I can keep this all up any more, without talking about it... But I don't wanna trauma dump and, well, you know how it is..."
Circe most certainly would know that Persephone's last sentence, about knowing how it is, refers to how difficult it has always been for their family to talk honestly about painful feelings, or failure, or trauma. After all, Circe was there when Persephone tried to tell their mother about her sexual assault, and her mother steadfastly refused to believe "that such a nice boy could do such a thing." She said awful things about Persephone that night, and Circe never forgot it, but Persephone and Circe have never really discussed the fallout.
Persephone looks at Circe with pain on her face, both at the thought of what she might share, and at the awkwardness of talking about such things with family. She doesn't want to burden little Circ after all, but it may be time to tear down a few of the walls her parents built to keep her safe--walls that also keep her isolated.

'Waterman' was in The Administrator's files, you can't recall, lying here in a hospital bed, exactly what was said, and you don't think it was too heavy on details —like the man himself, it was a bit fuzzy— but you got the feeling he was considered 'the enemy'... and, given the nature of your relationship with Uskglass, that could bode well: 'the enemy of my enemy' sort of deal?

The 'Waterman' hadn't answered her other questions, and she doubted it was by oversight. His name did ring a bell, however, but what she remembered reading about him didn't make her feel safer. She didn't like 'the Administrator', but she didn't think of him as her enemy either. If anything, the idea that this man was someone Uskglass couldn’t deal with made her nervous. That meant he was something powerful...and dangerous.

"Really?" Benji asks, curious. "Like who?"
He is not headed back to Piccadilly, but instead makes his way toward the exit he found that took him out into Hyde Park. He’s covered in blood, after all, and doesn’t want to be spotted at his station like this. There will likely be fewer people at Hyde Park, what with the weather — certainly fewer that would recognise him, at least.

"Hey, where are we going?" He asks once your destination reveals itself. He is obviously hoping you changed your mind and will show then the way down rather than another way out that they may already know about.

Emma only nodded. She was still so tired to argue with him, and she couldn’t find a reason to even try.
She allows her head to sink back into the pillow and closed her eyes, hoping that the next time she opens them she would be back in bed with David… and all of this, ALL of this, would have been nothing more than a bad dream.

So much for waking up beside David.
She sighed softly to herself, then glanced around the room, trying to get her bearing.
She no longer felt as exhausted, but that only meant she could think about all the things that has been bothering her; losing her purse, with her wallet and her cash and her credit cards and her gym membership and her apartment keys, and the hard drive she rightfully stolen. The fact that she didn't have any clothes to walk out of the hospital with. Worrying about David. Worrying about being scarred for life.
It was easier just to close her eyes and pretend none of it ever happened. To stay in a warm bed like this forever, rather than face her problems.
The only thing that finally forced her to open her eyes again was the thought of her husband, somewhere out there, panicking about where she was. Forcing herself to sit up straight, and still feeling a little dizzy, she searched for a button to call for a nurse.

"I’m going home," Benji answers, unknotting the blood-stained cravat around his throat and stuffing it in his pocket. His coat is dark enough in colour to hide any blood stains, at least at a quick glance, so he buttons it up to cover his ruined shirt and waistcoat. "When I said you should follow me, I meant that you should return to the surface with me and live to see another day, rather than foolishly wandering straight into a den of vampires. I wasn’t promising to help you." Even so, he can feel his resolve beginning to waver. He did promise those humans he spoke to that he would do what he could to help them… "May I ask… is it someone specific you’re looking for or are you trying to put an end to the disappearances in general?"

With David sick and bed-ridden (or hopefully still bed-ridden, though the chances that he has not noticed that you are missing are slim-to-none), and Bev not answering, and Henry a little freaked out, and Elliot missing, and Persephone being a bitch, you find yourself in the unusual position of having no one to call to bring you clothes and pay for a cab...
It takes forever for the nurse to arrive, she is glad to see that you are awake and responsive. "And how are you feeling?" She asks. "Doctor says you are to stay off that leg, if you want it to heal right. Try not to move it, and don't scratch it or fiddle with the dressings." These are things you probably should have known before now.
She offers you a bed-pan to relieve the bladder-pressure, but, if you insist, will also aid you in hobbling to the room's loo.
Your phone, she informs you, if you ask, is locked in the room safe. No, it is the only thing in there, you had nothing else.

The 'hunter' duo deflate at your implication that you are not going to help, just like everyone else. But there is a renewed glimmer of hope when you enquire about their motivations.
"It is dangerous down here." They say. "People go missing. There are stories... horror stories no one believes and cover up stories no one believes... but we... we saw something, we did not know what... but now we saw you too, and that proves we are not going crazy! There are things down here. 'Dozens', you say! And they take people... and we can't just let that keep happening."
Now they know 'vampires' exist their resolve is... well... bolstered, but also altered, they are going to need to do their research into how to kill these vampires, so they may have a better chance... but Alasdair is not just a vampire in the sewers as many believe, he has an army and is prepared to repel anyone who tries to enter his demesne.

The nurse's instructions didn't put her at ease. How exactly was she supposed to 'stay off that leg'? Was she supposed to get around on a wheelchair for the next few weeks? Stay in bed? She was growing more and more agitated the longer she thought about it, and being well enough to start thinking about everything that has gone wrong only made her panic.
"Could you… maybe bring me my phone?" she managed at last. She had to call David. Tell him she was alright. Sorta. "And has anyone… seen my handbag? It’s got my wallet inside. Everything, really."
A familiar lump in her throat threatened to turn into sobs again, but she managed to force it down, taking deep, long breaths to try to calm herself down. "Do you know when is Bev's next shift?" Bev didn't answer her before, but she was out for most of the day. Maybe she tried reaching her while she was wheeled off to surgery. She needed a familiar face right now.

The nurse is friendly and pleasant, consoling you to the best of her ability during your near-panic attack.
"Of course, dear." She says, going over to the safe. "I can give you the code, for when you sleep. But you should not be walking, so maybe just call us to lock it up again?" She seems to think you will be here long enough to be sleeping again.
"Your handbag? No, sorry dear. All we received was a bag of ... clothes." There is space for an extra word before 'clothes' as if she does not want to say 'contaminated' and remind you of the trauma. "But there was only a phone for the safe, nothing else in there..." She says.
"Oh, wait. How did that get in there?" She says to herself, returning with you phone and a business card and a puzzled expression.
The business card is expensive-looking, cream coloured with embossed shiny fuchsia lettering.

Despite the extravagance and cost, the writer in you can't help but notice the possible missing apostrophe at the end of the name, but more curiously, even though there is nothing that would show this, there seems to be an emphasis on the first syllable.
"Bev...?" She hesitates a moment before answering. "I don't know when she will be back." She says evasively.
What do you do?

There is some relief in having her phone back. She barely registered the rest of what the nurse said. The business card. Bev. Staying at least another extra night (how many has it been, anyways?). She would think about what it all meant later. Right now, she only wanted to do one thing – call David.
"Thank you" she mumbled, and didn’t wait for her to leave before unlocking the phone and looking at the stream of all the missed calls/messages. She didn’t waste any time scrolling through them. She would do that later.
She placed the call to her husband immediately, putting the phone next to her ear as she bit down on her lip, trying to think how she would explain any of it to him.

"Ah. Well, then I am afraid that I cannot help you," says Benji, sadly. "If it was to be a rescue mission, there might have been something we could do, but if your goal is extermination… There’s a whole army of them down there. They have guns. Besides, even if, by some miracle, you succeeded in destroying that particular den of vampires, it would not put a stop to the disappearances. What do you intend to do? Kill every vampire in London?"

Persephone sighs heavily. She takes Circe's hands and walks her over to the sofa and says, "You know how bad things got for me when my company collapsed after grad school, right? When I was so desperate to save what little chance of success I had left with the app launch? I went to every venture capitalist I knew, and they all passed. No one wanted to invest it, not after it had collapsed when my ex ran off with my funds. Well... I was approached by one investor who made me an offer I thought I had to take. So I did, but it was a terrible, terrible mistake. I sold my soul to him for the money to bail me out and restore my parents' retirement fund they'd loaned me. And now he owns my soul and I am damned."
Persephone holds up a hand to quiet Circe before she can respond. She continues, saying, "I know what you're thinking--Pers, you're being overly dramatic again! I wish, but not this time, sis. He... he was actually a demon, Circe. Like a biblical, supernatural, from Hell kind of demon who buys and sells souls via infernal contracts. And now I work for him. And I am going to prove it to you. But, to do that, I have to do something that absolutely will freak you out. But listen to me, Circe: I am still your sister, OK? And I will never hurt you, ever. But this is what I am now, and I am trying to figure out how to deal with it. OK, are you ready? I promise you're safe. Here, let me step back..."
Circe begins to stammer in confusion, saying, "What...? What are you ? Are you being serious right now? Ohmygod Persephone are you on drugs?? Or is this, like, a psychotic break?? Oh my god..."
But before Circe can spin up a full blown panic attack, Persephone stands, spreads her arms, and transforms.

"Emma. Are you alright? I was so worried!" David says by way of greeting, no 'where have you been?' accusations, just concern for your well-being. He does not sound a whole lot better than when you left him, still hoarse and weak, but he does not sound worse, and he kept himself going well enough to be able to answer the phone after one ring.

"So you will help us with a rescue mission?" Frank says, waving Ernie to silence and latching onto your —possibly-misspoken— 'offer'. "You made it out. You know the way." He is ignoring the fact that you are also a vampire, and may have only 'made it out' because your are friendly with the 'army below', that fact is inconvenient.

"Oh my god! ... Are you mocking me? Is this because of 'those books' I read!" Circe demands, her confusion and panic leading to tears... because... nothing happens.
This is the second time you have had ... trouble performing when it come time to change... the last time you literally died, this time it may feel like you are literally going to die of shame. At least you did not take your clothes off for this demonstration.
'Lebowski' did not go into details, but you gathered from his hints that 'they owed you' and therefore could not just let you die. That your Patron brought you back from the dead, but that does not seem to have washed away their disappointment in your performance, and you will still have to make it up to them before you invoke their influence and power again. Your taint and demon-form might not be 'what you are'... maybe it is something you can get rid of if you can weasel out of your deal?
Maybe, also, your thoughts about getting creative with your ... er... seduction of Viviana are not as clever as you thought? These are demons who have been spinning clever deals since before you were born... since before your country was born... since before your parents country was born... Did your Dark Patron know you would need extra motivation to do your job this first time? Or are they just teaching you a lesson? Damn, that contract sure would be useful to read.
"If you don't want to tell me, just don't. You don't have to insult me." Circe says, failing to hold back the tears.

Persephone stands, confused, her mind racing. What the... Are you offing kidding me? Why... OH. Oh no. He... he took it away...
Persephone's face twists in rage. She picks up a tasteful (and undoubtedly expensive) vase on the side table and throws it across the condo into the kitchen, where it shatters all over the marble countertop and spotless sink. She yells a guttural string of curse words, turns and grabs her purse angrily, and storms out, leaving her poor little sister to cry alone.
She calls the car service and heads straight to Wentworth's office. When she arrives, she barges past the receptionist, ignoring her protests, and throwing open his door. As it swings open, she screams, "Give me my goddamned contract you scumbag! Now!"

"Was that it?" Circe calls after you, not overly impressed with your Incredible Hulk (though she is thinking 'Hulk Hogan' by mistake) impression of demonic fury. She stands flabbergasted as you storm out, irritated you made a mess of the nicely cleaned condo... all the remaining detritus, clutter, and mess from the party is so much less than there was before they 'cleaned up' that she actually thinks she did a good job.
"Persephone." Wentworth greets you expansively. "Good to see you back with us." He says, soundling like there may be layers of meaning in the expression. "Won't you have a seat." He motions to the comfortable chair opposite and the freshly prepared drink, just as you like it. He does not seem surprised by your barging in, and is unmoved by your insults.

"I'm sorry..." She blurted out as soon as she heard his voice. "I'm so sorry, I really messed up"
She drew her knees up to her chest, curling up into herself as if she was six year old again "I thought I could handle it, but I couldn't" she clutched her phone more tightly in her hand "I’m at hospital. And my handbag...my wallet. My clothes. Everything. I can’t even get out of bed..."
Her voice trembles. She didn't make a lot of sense , but all she could manage was word- fragments. Sniffing, she pressed her fingers against the corners of her eyes to keep herself from tearing up again. "I'm sorry. I can't..."

"'Hospital'!?" David exclaims —possibly suggesting he had not thought you would have such a good excuse? "Lost your clothes!?" His mind is racing about what that could mean, but you hear him take a steadying breath before continuing.
"Are you alright? What do you need? Give me your ward and room number and a list of stuff and I will be there in half an hour." He says, but you know that he is still ill and should be going out in this weather... but you also know that he will brave hell and high water to come to your aid.

"No!" she sounded almost desperate. "You’re sick. You can’t - I don’t want you driving in this weather. Please."
The sobs she’d been holding back finally broke through, hot tears running down her cheeks. The thought of something happening to him because of her was unbearable. Worse than anything that happened to her
"I’m not going anywhere," she managed to say between her heavy breaths "I just… I didn’t want you to worry."
she knew how ridiculous she sounded the moments the words left her lips. This call could only make him more worried, but she was finding it hard to think straight. Nothing made a whole lot of sense anymore.
"I’m sorry," she sniffed as her nose started running again "you need to stay in bed... you can't, because of me..."

At the sight of Wentworth, his smug face, and his words, Persephone's rage builds and builds and breaks, like a wave upon the rocks. She squeezes he hands into fists and then screams a curse at the top of her lungs before storming over to the sofa, into which she collapses and begins to sulk.
After a moment, she releases a long sigh--a sigh of defeat. She leans forward, takes the drink, and downs it in one go. She looks at him and says, "I'm gonna need a few more of those. And I'm tired of being in the dark and doing all this half-assed. I need my contract, but also some goddam training or something. How do I get this girl to willingly sign away her soul? I literally have no idea how to even broach that topic. What do I do, secretly take compromising photos and then threaten to go public unless she signs? Oh. Oh no, not that. There's gotta be a better way, yeah? Wouldn't that bring way too much attention to her? To us?"

Wentworth snaps his fingers and the receptionist appears at your elbow, offering you another drink —you can't be sure but there may be just the slightest hint of an annoyed look at Wentworth and the glass you already have. Wentworth ignores her speaking openly.
"So, you have made contact with the target." Wentworth says, ignoring the bit about the contract and training. "Good, good. 'Comprising photos'? You say? Why? Have there been compromising situations? Already?"
He does not seem overly concerned about drawing attention, there is no 'us' in that equation.

Persephone takes the drink, downs half of it, and leans back, a smug smile on her face. "Yes there have been compromising situations Repeatedly. She is scared of nothing more than having the world--and her employer--know she's gay, so blackmail could work. What's more, I haven't just taken her body; she's falling for me." She downs the other half and waves the glass in the air to her side, awaiting the refill. She does not tell Wentworth that she has grown fond of Viv, however; she has locked that part of herself away for the moment. This is the time for hard nosed negotiation.
She leans forward and points a finger at Wentworth with the hand holding the glass. She says, "Listen up, Little Lord Fauntleroy. I can get you her. I can get you whoever you need. But I need a little quid pro quo, you hear me?"

She shrugs, having no idea how to handle that, and intends to head back to her condo.

Persephone just stood there, looking at Wentworth, feeling utterly defeated. Even though she wanted to kill him where he stood, she knew there was nothing she could do to this man. Especially without the favor of her patron. She hated to admit it, but, at least for now, she needed it. She just shook her head and said, "Fine."
She turned and left, the buzz she had started to develop quickly fading as her anger transformed back into self-loathing.

Maybe she was just being paranoid. Everything lately had been spiraling out of control, and it was easier to assume the worst. Maybe Mrs. Spunklecleif was nothing more than a nosy old neighbor trying to help.
Was it really so odd to expect kindness out of total strangers?
She couldn't explain to herself why she was so worried. All she could do was talk with her some more, to try to put her mind at ease:
"He does," she agreed with her when she said he needed rest "Are you… taking care of him?"

She steps inside the door and closes it with a little too much force, causing it to slam loudly. In a tone that ie one part confusion, one part accusation, she says, "Ummm?? I see you two have met?"

"You... you 'need to go home and rest'?" Frank says incredulously. "But... you are a vampire!" The strangeness of hearing a vampire needing to sleep slightly offsets his concern that they are also vampires down there, and the people he wants to save might not have time.

Henry jerks away guiltily, turning to face you. You see a large, damp splotch of tears (and other facial fluids) on his expensive shirt from where Circe was crying.
"What did you say to her?" Henry mouths in your direction, looking over your soggy appearance in confused surprise.

"I understand… and thank you for looking in on him"
Her thoughts kept on going in circles. This was all very suspicious, but maybe she was reading too much into it? And what could she possibly do about it, anyways, when she was bedridden at hospital?
She waited to see if she would say anything else before hanging up the call, but in the meantime, she was already thinking about her calling someone to drop by her apartment and check up on David. Someone she could trust. She couldn't take any chances

Persephone sighs heavily when she realizes what is happening. She was terrible to Circe, Henry shows up to find a crying girl, and he does the good thing and comforts her. The only villain in this scenario, Persephone knows, is her.
She walks in and says, "It’s my fault. I tried to explain to her about the demonic contract, but she didn’t believe me. So I was going to show her my demon form, but my patron is angry at me right now and has revoked it. So I just stood there like an idiot. I stormed out, just… SO angry at it all. I didn’t even get to the part about telling her what happened this weekend!!"
She looks at Circe and says, "I’m sorry I upset you. But I’m not lying. Henry saw it. But… let’s just forget about it right now; I just don’t want you to be upset, ok?"

"Are you supporting her in this delusion?" Circe demands of Henry, such support apparently not having been forthcoming so far. "You only just met her!?"
"Well, technically this is our third date..." Henry says defensibly, him being a number-guy and that particular number having significance to guys in this context. "Not that I am expecting your sister to put out or anything..." He adds hastily, defending your honour on the off-chance Circe missed the events of last night.
Henry seems more than a little uncomfortable being in the middle of this family drama. He also has not committed his opinion on what 'he saw', he is not sure what he saw, and a small part of him is holding onto that last vestige of his old sanity.
"When Emma told me about all this... It is hard to take in." He says.
"Emma?" Circe demands. "You are not going to try tell me her books are real!?"

Benji makes a detour past the Huntress fountain to wash the blood off his face and hands. "I don’t know why everyone is so surprised by that… Even Stoker’s Dracula slept! Anyway, yes, we do sleep. In coffins, during the day, famously—" He crosses his arms over his chest in the classic ‘vampire sleeping’ pose. "-although I’ve never actually had a coffin, personally… I’ve been mostly sleeping in a cupboard lately." He shakes his head, realising he’s getting off track. "Anyway, I’ve been invited back down there to play my violin in a few days or so, so we’ll stage our rescue then. In the meantime… they have the captive humans locked in a cell with thick iron bars, too sturdy for even a vampire to break. I’ll need the two of you to figure out some way to get that cell open without making any noise. Maybe you have some tools you could use on the hinges? Or maybe you will have to go back to those wizards you spoke to and see if they can’t provide you with an unlocking spell or something of the kind?"

Persephone begins to protest, saying, "It's not a delusion, it's..." But she trails off as Henry proceeds to henry all over things. First, he says some weird things about Persephone "putting out" that make her uncomfortable; he sounds like a high school boy caught making out behind the bleachers, not an older, mature man. Second, he refuses to affirm Persephone's claim. It is the second issue that ruins things for her.
Persephone looks at him with disdain and shakes her head, hurt and annoyed. She replies, "You still won't support me in this? If you can't believe me after what you've seen and heard, then maybe you should leave. I don't want your pity; I don't want you to tolerate my crazy claims. I want you to believe me. And I certainly won't be 'putting out' for someone who thinks I've lost my mind. So what will it be, Henry?"
She then turns to Circe and says, "And Emma? Yes. Well, No. I mean, Yes, she knows. But, No, her first book was all made up. Then she got a chance to do some 'real' research and discovered that the supernatural is real. So now she is mixed up with very bad people and is acting self-destructively again. So we're taking a break."
She turns back to Henry and crosses her arms, awaiting his response.

Emma gasped when the call was disconnected. She set the phone down in her lap, breathing slowly as the tears continued to run down her cheeks. She has to get it together! She can't help David, or herself, crying in a hospital bed...
She considered calling back, but what good would it do? If she told David where she was he might decide to stumble out of bed in his condition, and from the way he sounded on the phone he could barely stand up on his own feet. He shouldn't drive like that. He would only end up getting hurt, and it's all going to be her fault!
She started gasping for air just thinking about it.
No, I can't. Don't think about it
Emma was very good compartmentalizing her thoughts from her emotion. But this time, she found it nearly impossible thinking of a way to help her husband, without all the paralyzing dread that came with it.
She tried to force herself to calm down, but when she called Kenedi, her voice was still weak, and trembling:
"Hi… do you have a few minutes?"

"I haven't watched that one." Ernie says, missing that it may have been a book before it was anything to 'watch'. "'In a cupboard'?" He says, puzzled by this whole exchange.
"The violin guy." Frank says to Ernie, again quietly enough that they assume you wouldn't hear. "I thought he looked familiar. He seems to know a lot about the prisoners." He whispers, this not increasing their trust in you.
When you suggest 'tools' Frank hold up a hacksaw, it will be hard going getting thought those cold, iron bars with that tool, but he also holds up a leather pouch, assuming you will recognise a lock-pick set.
"'A few days, or so'?" Ernie says, returning to the topic of waiting. "Like, when? Are we supposed to just wait?" He is impatient with this plan, but, if they really went and spoke to all those people —tracking down 'wizards', even— they have waited longer than that already.

"I am supporting you." Henry says in a 'reasonable man explaining to a hysterical woman' tone of voice, and completely missing the effects of his ill-advised 'attempt to connect with the younger generation' and taking Circe's miming vomiting as the appropriate reaction to his words.
"But you have to admit it is a lot to take in. And your stories are ... hmm... a little out there." He isn't saying out loud that 'what he has heard' is precisely that, things he has heard, what he saw —in that dark park path— is a lot less clear... enough to make him listen to Emma's and your words, but not enough to strip him of all doubts. Your versions mostly line up, but learning that you knew Emma and possibly came to the hotel together, leaves the lingering thought that you may have colluded and planned this together... for what reason he can not see. He does not express this last doubt out loud.
Your news that Emma is acting self-destructively worries him, as does the fact that you are 'taking a break' and don't have her back, and possibly have not been making sure she is alright.

"Not really!" Kenedi shouts, a bit too loud for the phone, then, taking the phone away from her face but not covering it nearly well enough: "Hold him down! Hold him!! But make sure he can still breath!" Clearly something is going on on her end.
"Sorry!" She comes back to you, her voice still amped up. "Is this important?"

Benji cocks his head at Frank and Ernie’s whispered exchange. "I spoke to them," he explains about the prisoners. "Their names are Tiwonge Okonkwo and Liliána Mooshian. I promised them I’d see what I could do to help them, and that’s why I’ve agreed to help you."
When Frank holds up the hacksaw, Benji makes a face like ‘definitely not that one’. The lock-picks are more promising.
"Perhaps you could use the time to practice with the lockpicks," Benji suggests, patiently. "It will be important that you can get the cell door open quickly and quietly. Here, I’ll give you my phone number and you can call me or come find me at Piccadilly in a couple of days. Time is obviously of the essence for Tiwonge and Liliána, but I’m afraid I am simply not up to the task right now. I haven’t slept in… I’m not sure how long, and I have friends I need to call to let them know I’m not dead. Well… not more dead than I already was, anyway."

Persephone realizes at that moment that Henry will be neither the stalwart supporter nor fellow conspirator she was hoping for; indeed, he's being particularly oafish tonight, and betraying his significantly higher interest in Emma's well-being over hers. Again. And now Persephone has alienated Circe and made her conclude that her older sister has had some kind of psychotic break, may be a drug addict, or possibly a sex worker. Or maybe just a slut. And Emma? Well, Emma's not an option right now.
Persephone feels very alone and very defeated. She looks up at Henry and Circe. She sees their mouths moving, but can't hear them. The walls of her condo feel like they are closing in on her. She feels like someone is sitting on her chest and her breathing becomes rapid and shallow. She begins to shake, her hands visibly quavering and her teeth starting to chatter. She feels her shoulder and neck tense up tightly. She can't see, really--or she can't seem to focus on anything, at least. She has to get out of there!
In the grips of a full-blown PTSD -fueled panic attack, Persephone looks up at Henry and Circe, her eyes wide and desperate, filling with tears that splash down her cheeks, her lips quivering, her voice stammering. "I... I have to... I have to go..."
And she turns and runs! Adrenaline and cortisol pump through her body and she feels like she could smash right through the door. Instead, though, she slams it open with a bang and bolts down the hall to the elevator. She pushes the button 20, maybe 30 times, but it won't come! It's taking forever!!!
She breaks. She collapses, dropping to her knees, wrapping her arms around herself, as her body is wracked with sobs. Deep, visceral sobs punctuated with a guttural moaning cry, as if her very soul was howling in pain.
Just then, the elevator dings, about to open. Circe runs out the door and sees her sister lying on the ground shuddering. Circe runs to her, calling her name, but Persephone is unresponsive. She seems to be replaying something, seeing some trauma, rather than the present. Circe shakes her, but Persephone only sobs, cries out in pain, and shudders, her body literally wracked with muscle spasms, as if she were being struck -- or stabbed. Circe is terrified. Henry stands behind Circe, absolutely uselessly looking on, uncertain of what to do.

"Only two?" Ernie says when you name the prisoners. He sounds disappointed by the number, but you can't tell if that if because he is missing someone specific or if he is reevaluating risking two (or is it three) lives to try save two.
"I watched a youtube tutorial!" Frank says indignantly when you impugn his capabilities with the lock-picks. But maybe they will take your advice and practice to pass the time.
The exchange numbers with you and promise to come find you tomorrow.

Benji’s strength has been bolstered by Frank and Ernie (and Leopold)’s blood, but he is still positively exhausted and very glad to be on his way home. Upon reaching his flat, he pauses outside the door and knocks, in case Lizabeth is in.

There is no answer from inside, though that could just mean she is sleeping. However, when you enter you find that —most of— her stuff has been moved out. You have been gone for days, so maybe she took Miriam up on her offer, or maybe she just went home —she never took the threat seriously, anyway. On the other hand, many scary people were interested in her and her find, so maybe her leaving was not that congenial?
Your phone is flat —after a weekend or more of searching for signal with no charging. If you decide to charge and check it before you rest, you may get a flurry of messages.
• Do you let anyone know that you are back in the land of the living... so to speak?

"it's fine" she said in a voice that sounded anything but "I'll call you later..."
She didn't expect Kenedi to skip work just to bring her a spare change of clothes. And it wasn't like she was leaving the hospital soon anyhow, so she might as well wait until Kenedi was off work to talk with her.
Sighing to herself, she tried to keep her mind busy. First by reporting her credit cards stolen. Only then, did she flip the curious card she was handed to see if there was any clue she could find on its back. She intended to go through 'her' contact list to search for a healer, but maybe she should give this Titanias a call first...
She quickly dialed the number, waiting to see who will pick up before saying anything.

Benji is slightly sad but not surprised to find that Hermes and most of Lizabeth’s things are gone. It had been nice to have company for a little while. He still has Snowy, of course, sulking in his cage, and the rats… The rats! He told them to meet him at his flat and he’s very anxious to make sure they’re okay. "Hello?" he calls out as he steps into his flat and closes the door behind himself. "Tchaikovsky? Brahms? Paganini?"

While inadvertently looking at your notifications while handling your phone, you do see a couple of missed calls from your boss, as well as a message asking where you are and asking what you are working on. ('Asking' may be a polite way of saying it.)
Surprisingly, even at this late hour, Titanias answer the phone. "Hello, Daaarling!" A ... woman? ... greets in an accent you can't quite place, but it gives you feelings of warm continental climes. "You look fabulous!" (Though how they could know that is a mystery...)
"How can we help you?" They gush.

You have been gone for days, and have felt the acute effects of starving, but that damn raven still has not eaten anything! It looks none the worse for wear, though.
At your call, your three companions come piling out of a hole in the skirting-board where they were hiding. Paganini has a large streak of bald skin exposed on its back, and did Tchaikovsky always only have three fingers on one 'hand'? But they are alive. They swam up your trouser leg, eager to greet you with whiskered kisses.

A woman.answered her call before she had the chance to start worrying about the call from her boss. She wasn't as surprised to hear the voice of a woman, as she was by the compliment about her looks.
she quickly glanced at her phone to check if her camera was on.
No. It wasn't.
"…Uh." She hesitated. "I found your card. And… I might need your help."

"Of course, Daarling." She replies. "Can I have your name?" It is quite common for this sort of place to have exclusive membership lists, so her asking for your name before asking what sort of help you need might not be all that unusual.
In the meantime the bank have replied and confirmed your cards are now canceled and you will need to collect new ones, which needs your ID, which was in your purse. At least there have been no charges or attempts to use them in the interim.

In the meantime the bank have replied and confirmed your cards are now canceled and you will need to collect new ones, which needs your ID, which was in your purse. At least there have been no charges or attempts to use them in the interim.

Circe and Henry look at each other, uncertain of what to do. Henry ineffectually tries to pat Persephone on the arm, saying, "Um, there there, it'll be ok...?" Meanwhile, Circe runs back to the condo and returns with her phone, angrily yelling, "What the hell, Henry! You guys don't have 911 here?!" Henry educates her and they call 999 for emergency services. Throughout, Persephone rocks on the ground, knees to chest, sobbing and shaking. A neighbor or two look out to see what's going on, and Henry lets them know that emergency services have been called, someone is having a nervous breakdown. Some neighbors grant them their privacy; others simply stare.
By the time the emergency services arrive, Persephone seems to have exhausted herself, and she is groggy and somewhat unresponsive. They load her on a gurney and wheel her away. Circe demands to come with them, but the medics direct her to wait at the hospital. Henry does the chivalrous thing and accompanies her.
Persephone finally comes to in a hospital bed. Her whole body hurts, like she's been in a car crash. She is exhausted, feeling hollowed out. And her nerves are frayed; a nurse enters and Persephone yelps and jumps in surprise. She shivers with the chills for a short time afterwards, as her nerves slowly calm themselves. The nurse injects something into an IV and Persephone lapses into sleep.
Her drug-addled dreams are filled with Choudry's rising and falling hand holding the dagger, the demon she met in the tunnels, her patron, Viv, Chablis, Emma... a collage of all that has happened, filled with blood and fire, smoke and pain. But something else is there... a warm light...
She awakens, finally. Daylight streams in. Circe is asleep in a chair across the small room. Henry is not here, having had to leave for work. It is late morning the next day -- she had been asleep for 16 hours. Persephone pulls herself up to sitting and tries to rub her eyes, only to discover her wrists are strapped down to the sides of the bed.
What the...what is going on?
She shakes her head and it all gradually comes back to her. She looks to Circe as her eyes well up with tears. "Circe? Circ? I'm scared..."

"Emma Harper" she hesitated only for a second before giving her full name. She was still trying to figure out who exactly she was speaking to. A normal business wouldn't answer the phone like that. Or in these hours of the night...
"I… was injured recently, and I’m looking for someone who can make sure there’s no scarring left."
Her brow furrowed slightly as she glanced at the card again. "You are specialists in cosmetic surgery, right?"

Benji is overjoyed to see that the rats are alive and well(ish). He gets them each a biscuit from the kitchen cupboard, plugs his phone in to charge, and disappears into the bathroom to clean up and change into a fresh set of clothes.
When he comes back, he sees that his phone has charged and that he has a handful of text messages and missed calls. He needs to let Emma know that he got out okay (and to tell her the terrible news about Persephone!) but first he calls Lizabeth to make sure she has not been kidnapped.

Circe wakes up groggily. It takes her a moment to work out where she is as well. It does not look like she got a lot of sleep.
"It's going to be OK." She says, first patting you arm and then steeling herself and taking your hand below where it is bound. "You're safe. No one is going to hurt you. You are in the hospital." She explains, her reassurances hinting about why you are strapped down and maybe also about the sorts of things you have been saying, in your sleep or to the doctors.
• Would Circe have called your parents? Are they the sort to cope with this sort of thing? Are they the sort to be arranging flights as we speak?

There is the briefest of pauses, just barely long enough for someone to look up a name, then: "Ah, Emma. Yes, most assuredly. We can sort that out for you, no trouble at all. We can work miracles..."
There is another pause, long enough to run a credit report. "And how will you be paying?" She asks, still as polite and not sounding like she plans to reject you.

"But you haven't even inspected me yet. And I didn't tell you where I was injured...". She was beyond suspicious right now. This was playing out like some kind of con, and she wasn't surprised when they already asked for her credit card number. The only reason she didn't hang up was the mention of a 'miracle'.
She desperately needed one.
"Don't you need to tell me how much it's going to cost me first?"

Benji apologises profusely to Lizabeth for worrying her. "I got lost in the tunnels underground," he explains. "I was wandering around for days and then I ran into Alasdair and his friends and I thought they would help me but they locked me in a cell! He did let me go eventually though… I would have called you sooner but my telephone wasn’t working and then the battery ran out. I only just got home."

"Let me guess. Vampire bite? On the inner thigh? Or neck? Unsightly marks? Don't worry, we can fix you fight up, lickety-split." How do they know that? At least they don't seem to know the specifics like the location of the bite... and it is also good news that you won't need to lie about what happened. This is all sounds too good to be true.
"And don't worry. We won't take an arm and a leg... too soon?" She finishes, possibly wishing she could retract her joke.

"You? Got lost in the underground?" Lizabeth says, sounding skeptical. "Who the f is Alasdair?" She is not up with all the old-school vampires, which is a good thing, she stays out of the dark places, preferring to keep the open sky above her head, and probably doesn't really care who he is, she just needs to vent her irritation with you.

That wasn't a guess. The woman knew exactly why she called her. The fact that she was right both unsettled and relieved her ; it meant she might actually be able to help her.
"I… I have to get it fixed," she couldn't keep the desperation from her voice "My body... it's why people like me" A single tear rolled down her cheek "its the only reason anyone likes me"
She took a moment to compose herself, taking a deep breath to steady her voice

"Ah, isn't it always thus." She says sadly. "But I am sure you have more value than that. And money isn't everything. When you are back on your feet, why don't you pay us a visit." The address is on the card, and it is nearby, on the river.

"Oh, right, yes, sorry — you don’t know Alasdair. He’s just another vampire — one of the ones that live underground, in the storm sewers," Benji explains, not picking up on the fact that Lizabeth definitely doesn’t care. (Why would she ask if she didn’t care?). He goes on to tell her all about what happened at the park and underground with the demons, stopping his story shortly before the encounter with Alasdair, which he has already told her about in brief and which he certainly does not want to go into detail about. "Anyway, I’m glad you’re alright! And I’m glad you had Joe around to help you while I was gone. He’s really nice. I think he likes you."

Emma sank back into the pillow once she ended the call. She wanted nothing more than pay a visit to Titanias right now, that very moment. But the doctor said she should rest, and .... she didn't have any clothes.
She was stuck here in hospital, for god knows how much longer, and every second in bed only made her more and more frustrated with the situation.
Maybe she should get some rest. She wasn't feeling like herself. She lost so much blood, that it would take a while until she could think straight again.
But what about her husband?
She only planned to be gone for a couple of hours, not leave him sick and bedridden all by himself. And now he must be worried sick about her, on top of everything.
She had to do something.
She hated that she had to think twice about doing what she should have done hours ago. Picking up the phone, and breathing in deeply, she called her mother-in-law
She and the elder Mrs. Harper were very different people, and didn't always get along. But they had one thing in common; their love and devotion to David.
Her husband would be safe with her. And unlike anyone else, she wouldn't hesitate nor feel burdened taking care of him.

Trigger warning: SA and self-harm
With a frightened look on her face, Persephone asks, "Circ! What is happening? Why am I...this?" She tugs at her wrist cuffs and also discovers she is wearing ankle cuffs as well.
Circe looks exhausted, both physically and emotionally. She stands, slowly, and makes her way to Persephone's side, taking one of her restrained hands. With a deep sadness, she says, "Pers, I told them you were suffering from, like, major delusions. And when they examined you, they..." She choked back tears and struggles to continue. She closes her eyes and breathes, composing herself enough to continue. She says, "They saw the scars. They're...all over your body. I ... I didn't know!"
Circe looks down at Persephone's body. Her eyes trace the nearly invisible lines that criss-cross Persephone's whole body -- lines that Persephone herself had not yet noticed. She'd had literally zero time alone with herself since 'coming back,' and had focused on the wound she remembered -- the knife. Apparently, the hell hound had torn her body apart afterwards, so now she has a fine web of scarring across her entire body. A medical professional could easily interpret them as years of careful razor cuts, long healed.
Circe shakes her head in disbelief and then back at Persephone's face. Deeply hurt, she says, "The doctor said based on how well they'd healed, that you have a long history of cutting, going back years. And because you have that kind of history, and you've had a break from reality with major delusions, they said you are a danger to yourself. So..." She trails off, clearly at a loss. She is devastated that her older sister might have had such a long history of self-harm. She knew Persephone had some mental health struggles in the past, but Circe never had any clue of anything of this degree of seriousness.
Circe gets a very serious look on her face and looks Persephone in the eyes. She says, "After they sedated you, you ...said things. You said you were a demon again, that you had already died. You said you were afraid you'd hurt that girl you're dating, Viv. Persephone, I'm... I'm worried and I don't know what to do. I haven't call mom and dad yet, because you know how well they'd handle this, but... I don't know what else to do..."
Still recovering from the sedative they administered, Persephone tries to understand everything that is happening and formulate a reply to her little sister, but the words don't come. Her eyes begins to well with tears again, and they sting when they do so--she'd already cried too much today. Or was it tomorrow? She wasn't even sure. She looks away from Circe in abject shame.

"What!? No! Don't be silly." Lizabeth exclaims, suppressing a giggle. "He's like a spy. He is just doing his job watching me." She sounds more than a little titillated by the idea, and it does not sound like this is the first time she has thought about her and Joe.
If you told her about Frank and Ernie and the planned rescue attempt, she will be very pleased, but that came after the Alasdair debacle, and it also might not be a good idea to bandy about that idea too much.

Evelyn will, of course, head straight through to look after her baby boy, but she is not easily swayed away from questions, lots of questions: What is happening, why are you in hospital (do you need anything), are you going to be OK, how are things going with David... and progressively more personal... your phone is getting warm and the battery is creeping down.
The Harper-in-laws are, of course, not in London, so this does not help you tonight, poor Mrs Spunklecleif may have to 'watch her shows' at your place? (... not that you have a TV? Who does anymore... old people, that's who.:)

Kenedi came through and brought her a fresh set of clothes, and a spare key to her apartment. What she didn't bring, because Emma never though to ask, was an umbrella.
She rode a taxi back home, but the short walk from the curb to the Lobby left her soaked to the bone. Pushing the door open with her hip, she dragged herself inside
"Hi..." She whispered feebly. Charles was at the small dining table, halfway through breakfast, while Evelyn busied herself with the kettle. A suitcase rested near the couch, likely theirs. She hadn’t discussed sleeping arrangements with them, but it was clear they must have driven straight here in the morning without checking into a hotel.
"How's David?"
She limped to the couch and slumped in, brushing her fingers through her soggy hair. She was relieve to see her in-laws, and she felt some of the pressure of her last couple of days already lifting off her shoulders.

Dr Johansen has left instructions for how to move, what not to do (basically anything), and how and when to apply which creams and ointments. The hospital is not pleased at your leaving so soon and without actually talking to your surgeon, but they can not stop you.
Walking is very difficult, every movement stretches the inside of your thigh and reminds you that they say this will increase scarring. They couldn't supply you with a wheelchair, not that you could get one into your flat, and the crutches are uncomfortable and don't seem to help, anyway. It is slow going. The taxi driver is more than willing to help you from his door to yours.
"He is worried about you." Evelyn says, she is treating you a lot more icily than last night. Maybe she has been speaking to Mrs Spunkleclief?
They all want to see the injury, but the intimate location sends your father-in-law packing. Your 'snake bite' story smells fishy, but no one calls you on it.

It was one of the rare few occasions where Emma actually felt (a tiny bit) guilty. It didn't matter that she never intended to abandon her husband. It didn't matter that (this time) she never intended to get herself in trouble. The end result was what matters. She wasn't there to support her husband. He was left, sick and with high fever, without anyone there to take care of him.
She failed her duties as a wife, and she couldn't fault Evelyn to be angry with her.
Then again... She was clearly in pain, could barely walk, and was just hospitalised for at least a day. Her mother in law could show some sympathy towards her situation too. They were still family...
"I have to talk with him"
She wanted nothing else then to tell him she was alright, so he could properly rest without worrying about her.
"Can you please help me to the.bedroon? The doctor said I should keep the weight off my leg for a few days. Until my injury properly heals..."

Persephone looks away, eyes closed, and weeps quietly.
Circe had cried until crying ran out already, so she just turns and walks back to her chair and collapses into it. She shakes her head and sighs and picks up her phone. An idea occurs to her and she opens it and looks at her sent messages and outbound calls from the past few days. She realizes that she had let Persephone use her phone when she first saw her--when Pers claimed that she had lost hers. There are several calls and messages to Emma, as well as to another number she doesn't recognize.
"I don't care if they are 'taking a break.' This is too important," Circe mutters to herself, and sends a text to Emma.
Emma, this is Circe, Persephone's sister. Persephone is in the hospital after a mental breakdown. She has been self-harming, for years apparently. She is delusional. They had to restrain her. Emma, she needs help. I need help. Please, I don't know who else to turn to.
She wants to throw the phone, but she sighs and looks at the other number. Almost angrily, she sends a message to it as well, saying, Who is this, and how do you know Persephone? She's in the hospital.

After he finishes talking to Lizabeth, Benji looks over his missed calls and messages to see who else he needs to call. There are, of course, a flurry of texts and calls from Emma a few days ago, but also a few from a number he doesn’t recognise, including one very recently:
Who is this, and how do you know Persephone? She's in the hospital.
Persephone! She’s alive!? And in hospital, apparently, which is obviously no good, but that’s a whole lot better than dead, at least! Confused and feeling terribly guilty for leaving Persephone behind in the tunnels when she was apparently still alive, Benji immediately calls the strange number.

Charles gives his wife an exasperated look, stands and offers you an arm for support, guiding you to the bedroom.
David is sitting up —which is an improvement— but he still looks pale. He brightens when he sees you, then his face falls when he sees you are hobbling and unable to walk, if he could he would have leaped out of bed and gotten you settled. As is, he shifts aside so you can sit and stretch out in whatever way is comfortable.
"What happened?" He asks, his voice laden with concern and lacking the judgement you seem to be getting from everyone else —or is it just from those who are old and female? "Is it very bad?"
What do you do?

Emma, who also lookee pale, brightens when she sees her husband finally able to sit up on his own. She carefully lowered herself next to him, leaning into him slowly.
She fell into his arms, closing her eyes and just breathing in the scent of him for a long moment. She didn't need anything else at that moment. All her adventurers were forgotten as she wrapped her arms tighter around his body. She only let go because she owed him an answer :
"I was stupid. I chased a lead… something I thought would be perfect for the book. And I ended up tangled up with some completely insane people. Like the ones I write about"
She breathed in slowly "I was bitten. Lost a lot of blood. I can’t even stand without someone holding me up. The doctors said I’ll be alright. In time". She lowers her eyes, unable to meet his gaze "I'm sorry. I really messed up. I was lucky to get away with just this; It could have been so much worse."

Charles closes the door behind himself as he gives you some privacy.
David makes appropriate comforting noises, letting you talk, holding you and stroking your (lank and lifeless) hair gently.
One thing is bothering him, enough that he needs to ask about it. "'Bitten'?" He says, not really knowing how to go further with this line of enquiry, but that word, combined with 'people, like the ones you write about', which, in his mind are 'vampires'... and more importantly fictional, has him quite worried.

"Yes...bitten" she wanted to tell him the truth, but she also knew how crazy it will sound. There was no way he was going to believe her. But she didn't want to outright lie to him either...
"There are… crazy people out there. People who think they’re vampires." Because they ARE vampires "And..." She turns her head away and grimaces as the recalls the sharp pain when Tara's teeth sank into her flesh "That's how I ended up in hospital". She spares him, and herself, the details of what exactly happens. Not like she could remember much of it anyways.
"I'll send you the hospital report" she pulls away only to reach for her phone "it can explain it better than I can"
She sends him the file, but when the screen return to her inbox she noticed the flood of all the missed messages. Friend. Her boss. And ...Circe?
The colour drains from her face as she reads her message. Her shoulders sag, and when she turns back to David, she let out a soft sigh
"I have to make a few calls. There are… a lot of people looking for me."
There was nowhere private she could retreat to now that her in laws where in the living room. Not like she could stand on her own to walk there anyhow.
Lifting her phone to her ear, and still leaning on her husband for supports, she taps Circe's contact and waited for the call to connect

Circe sits in a small upholstered chair across the room from Persephone's bed, drinking a styrofoam cup of disgusting hospital coffee, hoping to stave off the exhaustion the weighs on her. She looks across the room at her sister strapped down to the bed and now asleep again, having been drugged yet again. She flew into a fit when she awoke and Circe wouldn't free her, and it got bad enough that the nurses came in and administered a sedative. Apparently they have to wait until the hospital psychiatric nurse can come by on her rounds later that night before possibly getting Persephone committed to ...
Circe doesn't even want to finish the thought. How did it come to this? Oh Persephone...
Her phone buzzing interrupts her pitiful reverie. She picks it up and sees that an unknown number is calling, but it is one she recognizes, because she called it earlier today. She doesn't know who it is, but it is someone that Persephone called several times when she borrowed Circe's phone.
She answers and, in a voice that sounds equal parts exhausted and panicked, she says, "Hello? Who is this?" Even through the emotions dn fatigue, however, the voice is clear that of an American young woman, and Benji might even detect a similar intonation and accent to Persephone's.

I'll respond to Emma's call after thisAug 15, 2025 10:28 pm
A young American woman picks up the phone. Her voice is familiar…"Hello!" he says. "This is Benji. I’m a friend of Persephone’s. To whom am I speaking?"
