[CLOSED] Daggerheart Quickstart Adventure

Be sure to read and follow the guidelines for our forums.

System: Daggerheart (Rules as written)
Platform: Just Gamersplane.com — using custom sheets for meta-currency tracking. No external tools needed.
Format: Steady PbP engagement (3–5 posts/week)
Tone: Heroic Fantasy, "Narrative-Driven" (whatever that means)

I'm gauging interest in running a play-by-post game of the official Daggerheart Quickstart Adventure, using the rules as written (RAW). This will be my first time playing or GMing this system. If there’s enough interest, I’d like to play with 3–5 people.

What makes the Daggerheart Quickstart different?
  • Dual d12 rolls—every test generates both a success/failure, twists and meta-resources (Hope or Fear)
  • 5 pregen characters for you to choose from or, if you're familiar with the rules, you can bring your own, as long as it is ready and approved within a couple of days (we won't have time for chargen)
  • No strict initiative order—an action tracker sets the pace of combat
  • Threshold-style damage instead of traditional HP
  • Several meta-currencies (Hope, Fear, Stress, Armor, etc.)—we’ll use Gamersplane’s custom sheets to simplify tracking

What to expect from this game (if it happens):
  • System learning-friendly—new players welcome
  • Regular PbP rhythm (ideally 3–5 posts/week). Real life may happen
  • Writing will be entirely human-crafted— Midjourney may be used for optional images or visual aids, but all narration and player/GM writing will be straight from the Quickstart Adventure or human-crafted
  • We will start no earlier than August 15th

📌 Note: If another GM out there is also interested in running the Quickstart, from the beginning, feel free to chime in and offer to take the lead—I’m happy to step aside and participate as a player if someone else is eager to GM!

Interested? Reply below with:
  • Your level of interest and what are you looking for
  • Your expected posting rate
  • Any character ideas (ancestry/class/theme/etc)
  • PbP and Gamersplane experience, if any.
  • Any questions you might have

Hey htech, just started being a player IRL in a daggerheart short campaign and like the system so far. Really interested in playing some more on here as I'm really liking the narrative/storytelling aspect of it. Should be able to post mostly once a day, but happy with 3-5 times a week too.

Would likely play a Wildeborne Tidekin Witch, focussing on the healing stuff with a few minor damage dealing, roleplay skills.

Havent played on Gamersplane for a LOOOOOOOOONNNNNGGGG time, but really want to get back into a game again.

Hey Kubby87, thank you for your interest.

I forgot to mention, but if this game happens, we won't be using playtest materials (at least not in this adventure) nor any third-party content. Maybe in a future game.

For this, it will be just the free SRD and Core Rulebook, ok? =)

Heroic Fantasy is my favorite tone and Daggerheart on my want to try list. With htech as DM my level of interest has never been higher.
3 per week is OK but prefer faster.
You know my GP XP, I guess.
For this quickstarer adventure I would be happy to play any of the 5 pregen but prefer the wildborne katari ranger Soto.

I'm interested. I have a little experience in the system and I'm in runekyndig's DH game here (so if you get enough interest, I can step aside and let someone who hasn't had a chance to play the game join in.) I haven't looked at the pregens, but I'm interested in seeing the breadth of the system so I could take whatever's available.

Heck yes! I've been dying to try this one out. Where do I sign?

Whoops, got so excited, I didn't answer the questions at the bottom of the post.

1) Level of Interest: Off the charts. I have picked up pretty much everything I can find by Darrington and third parties for DH and have been eating it up like a very hungry cat. I've not played it other than solo messing around, but I am beyond excited to dive in and experience it in a group setting!
2) What am I looking for? Fun, action, adventure, camaraderie, and kicking the wheels and checking the tires on a new system to see if its as good in actual play as its been in solo. I'm a bit ADHD, so I tend to lean towards games that feature action, exploration and problem solving. I love RP in the context of those things, but I'll take an action, adventure, suspense etc. movie over Masterpiece Theater any day.
3) Expected Posting Rate: 3-5 times a week is great.
4) Character Ideas: Any, all? I'm open to pretty much anything, but gravitate to classes like Rogue, Ranger, Druid or Warrior.
5) Experience with PbP and GP: Quite a bit of PbP, observed a lot on GP but haven't actually played here much.
6) Questions: When do we start? Are we there yet? *leans head out car window and pants with excitement*

I am highly interested. I like learning new games. I can post as much as need be(I check my games multiple times a day usually).
I like a good adventure game and seeing how the characters mesh and surly some combat.
I like to play warrior, rouge, and cleric types
I would be happy choosing a pregen character.

I'm sorely tempted! I've gotten to play a bit of Daggerheart (and have the pdf) but I want to try different ancestry/class combos, so if there's room I'd join!

I'm definitely interested—I've never played Daggerheart, but I'm really excited to learn a new system! And also a big fan of Darrington Press.

1) Level of Interest: Very!!
2) What I'm Looking For: I'm eager to try out the new system and get more experience with the play-by-post format.
3) Expected Posting Rate: Around 3–4 times a week, possibly more on weekends.
4) Character Ideas: Nothing set in stone yet, but I'm leaning toward a pure fighter type—maybe heavy armor. I've never played that style before, and a straightforward combat-focused character might be a good way to ease into a new system.
5) Experience with PbP and GamersPlane: I previously played a Stars Without Number campaign here on GamersPlane.
6) Questions: Where do I sign?
Aug 4, 2025 1:45 pm
I've decided! If there's room, I'd like to join. Here are my replies:

  1. I have gotten the chance to play daggerheart once or twice, so I'm interested in trying out new classes, ancestries, and communities;
  2. I can post daily, though I won't post more than others so that we get equal spotlight time;
  3. For character, I was thinking either...
    1. a slyborne faun bard troubadour: a scoundrel hedonist troublemaker with a heart, devoted to his friends;
    2. or an underborne fungril druid warden: a serene, slow-talking but wise, big huggable mushroom friend;
  4. I've been doing pbp for ten years, here at GP for about a year.

Thanks for the consideration!

Application: Gearspark
  • Recently purchased the core set of Daggerheart and wouldn't mind testing it out. I'm curious how well it performs with the harder coordinated format of Play by Post. Since this is a quickstart. I assume it's more like a One-Shot. I'd be down to try a shorter form story to try the game out. I'm not expecting an epic story out of this. Just a chance to grab a character and try out the system with a group.
  • 5/week is easy enough for me to hit. If others are active, I can also go higher. Just depends on the group.
  • I'd probably be mixing ancestries. Like.. a goblin...ribbit? So a Gobbit, or would that be a Riblin? Either way, something to that effect. Or maybe I'll go giant/something. Just to mix it up. I usually make stuff up as I go.
  • I've got over a year of near constant and varied play by post experience. I've played Shadow of the Demon Lord, Pathfinder 2e, D&D24, Alice is Missing, and TinyD6. Point is, I can learn a system and utilize it in this format.
  • Are there any templates available for custom sheets now? I know how to add stuff to sheets, but I don't typically have to make them entirely.

I'm already in one of your games. If you want to give other folks a shot, no hard feelings. But I'm tempted enough to apply anyway.

There are. =) Runekyndig made one and put it here (link) and I am trying to create one of my own. Here is how it's going so far, filled for one of the pregens:

Marlowe Fairwind
Marlowe Fairwind is the personal mage to King Emeris, and is responsible for bringing this group together. She appears calm, until she isn’t.

Okay, so there's enough interest, and it's happening. And since one of my groups decided to stop their game and play this Quickstart, we're going with not one, but two games. =)

This is officially a recruitment thread now. If anyone else wants to apply, now's the time.

For each group, I will be looking for 2-3 users I already played with and 1-2 users I've not played with before.

PS: This game is explicitly friendly to LGBT and any other minorities or marginalized groups.

I bought Daggerheart recently and am loving everything I see. I am really excited to give it a try if I get the chance.

Your level of interest and what are you looking for
Daggerheart seems like an unique blend of several games that I love with many interesting elements and larger focus on narrative gameplay. I am really excited to try this and even play a campaign if someone runs it.

Your expected posting rate
I can atleast post 3 times a week. I will try to manage more if I get chance.

Any character ideas (ancestry/class/theme/etc)
Human, Loreborne, Wizard (School of War) or Dwarf, Orderborne, Seraph (Divine wielder)

PbP and Gamersplane experience, if any.
I have been playing PbP for quite sometime. I started with Rpol and now I am playing in Gamersplane. I am familiar with posting format and it won't be a problem.

Any questions you might have
I don't have any questions right now. Though I must admit, I haven't read the full rules yet. I hope it won't be a problem if I am allowed to join.

Oh, I have another question! Do you have a plan on how you will be running initiative? The free flowing style might be great at a table, but surely won't function the same in a game where a post could come hours later than others.

That is the beauty of Daggerheart. There is no Initiative or turn order.
Its the players turns until they roll with fear, where its then the GM's turn to spotlight one or advesaries by spending fear

A tip for you @htech and perhaps @Dmbrainiac that I have started to use in my game, is to have a GM sheet with a fear and condition tracker. It makes it easy for me to plop down the latest condition into my GM posts, and these stay consistent as the BBcode only lives in the sheet.

Fear [_f1=5/5].[_f2=2/5].[_f3=0/2]
#Fear counter is [_$=f1+f2+f3]
[b]beast moving location[/b] [_c1=3/4] -clock ([_$=c1]/4)
[b]beast leaving ruin[/b] [_c2=0/6] -clock ([_$=c2]/6)

Your level of interest and what are you looking for
- I'm very interested in Daggerheart generally and want to try new things with it. I have a little experience with it (3 sessions FtF and a few weeks of runekyndig's game) but not much.
Your expected posting rate
- I can post as fast as the rest of my players. I am chronically online (it's a clinical condition).
Any character ideas (ancestry/class/theme/etc)
- I'm open to anything and if we're using the pregens, I'll pick last. I haven't played a straight up warrior type yet so if we're making our own, I might lean that way.
PbP and Gamersplane experience, if any.
- I've played PbP on other sites for a few years. I've had my account here for a couple of years, but only recently started playing and am in a few games here (mostly Savage Worlds) and a couple of Traveller games on another site.
Any questions you might have
- I think I'm good. As previously mentioned, I'll step aside for others if there is too much interest.

Like Rune said, there is no initiative. We will see how that goes. =)

If I take a page from the many PbtA games being played here, we should expect players to post naturally, in whatever order they want or can, until they roll with fear or need some input from me. I can also explicitly spotlight a player sometimes, if necessary.

Thank you! Will definitely use that snippet. =)

Looks like there's already a lot of interest, but I'll throw my hat in the ring as well, just in case.

-My level of interest? Very high! Daggerheart looks really exciting, and I would love to get a chance to try out the system. I have the core rules, and have watched some actual play of the game, but not had a chance to actually play myself yet.
- 3-5 posts/week sounds good to me.
- There's a bunch of character options that all look tempting, but I think I'm leaning towards either some kind of bruiser-y guardian type, a supportive class like bard, or maybe a seraph to get a mix of both. For ancestries, giants, galapas and clanks all sound neat.
- Lots of rpg experience irl, but only been on GP and doing pbp for about six months. Been in a couple of games and I am currently GM'ing my first game on this site.
-I had a couple of questions ready, but I can see that they've already been asked and answered, so I'm good!
