Not a problem. We started this game as a playtest before the rules were complete, so we have all been in that boat...

If anything needs clarification, ask. If anything sounds wrong, object (you have read the rules more recently than I, so I may misremember, I am sure you know what it is like to find one is pulling from a different PbtA by mistake, and such:).

What are your Urban Fantasy genre touchstones?

Wow, I never answered this did I. What are touchstones? Could you give examples?

Don’t know if it is helpful, but here are a few of mine:
- World of Darkness RPGs and video games
- Dresden Files book series
- Rivers of London book series
- Iron Druid book series
- Buffy tv show
- Grimm tv show
- Supernatural tv show
- And an embarrassingly long list of modern supernatural fantasy romance (monster fucker books!)

My list of supernatural thrillers is embarassingly light.

A couple Nightside books.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Lost Girl TV show
And a bunch of really trashy monster fucker romance novels that don't really fit the genre.

I had high hopes for the WoD games when they came out, was looking for something more story focused (even back then), but was disappointed that their 'Storyteller' system was so mechanical. :(
I never got more than a few episodes into Grimm, though it looked promising.
I have not read the Iron Druid books, though they are on my list... but it is a long list.
Not many mention Rivers of London. I have the most recent book but have not read it yet, it is probably top 5 on my list of what to read next (which is not bad on a long list).
Rivers of London was useful when a game started in London. As was Benedict Jacka's Inheritance series (and possibly Alex Verus, though those were a bit of a slog at the start ('first book syndrome'). Inheritance of Magic was great, looking forward to the third book later this year.

...
Light does not matter when it include the likes of those. Not many bring up Lost Girl, that was great for the few seasons I got to watch. And Buffy is always a win. :)

Uh... yeah, if you must... though maybe behind closed doors? ... :)

yeah, the world of darkness games are highly dependent on having a good group of people all in the same page. Most of the time, though, it is an awful experience.

And yes, behind closed doors and in accordance with the GP ToS lol

What are the GP ToS in regards to monster fucking btw?
Sep 25, 2025 5:42 pm
Oh, this is fun! Let me throw some of my own:

- Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth. His Faeries are beautiful and outwardly and terrifying, and the demons look like they crawled straight out of H.P Lovecraft books. Love it!
- Constantine
- The Crow (the original one, of course)

And for Vampires; I like the full gauntlet from the melancholic immortals of 'Only Lovers Left Alive', to something more visceral, like the ones in 'Blade'!

I don't believe there are any, I think that was a joke?

But since this game is public, maybe keep it roughly PG?

Good choice!

Of course, though it has been a long time since I saw that, so I don't recall much.

... 'Only Lovers Left Alive' ...
That looked interesting. But I have not watched a movie in ages, so have not gotten to it.

The Bade TV series was surprisingly good, don't listen to the haters, many felt that it could not work without Snipes, the OG... forgetting that he was a stand-in for the comic book character. :)

Moonlight (TV) was also a great portrayal of vampires.
