The Contact (RP)

Nov 3, 2022 2:52 pm
Continued from The Two Barons
You awake in the middle of the night to find Olaf sneaking away from his house into the storm. You might well assume he is going to meet his contact, but if that is not the case it is even more reason to be suspicious.

Who noticed Olaf and woke the others? (PC? NPC? Something else?)
Do you confront him now?
Do you try to follow him, unnoticed?
What do you think he is up to, and do you take any precautions?

What do you do?
Nov 6, 2022 5:42 pm
Albert is still sitting against a bale of hay, contemplating. The storm is raging on outside. Thunder can be heard often, but it's not near enough to be a threat. Flashes of lightning light up the room every now and then. His companions seem to be sleeping, or at least resting.

After what is probably a couple of hours, he hears something that resembles the creaking hinge of a door. Probably nothing. He thinks to himself. The wind is likely opening a hatch somewhere.
Another flash brings a fraction of light, in which Albert sees Norbert's dog poke its head up. Hmm, that dog definitely noticed something.
Nov 6, 2022 8:11 pm
The dog makes a low noise close to a growl, but not all out threatening.Four heartbeats later Norbert sits next to the dog peering into the dark in the same direction a the dog.

He notices Albert nods into the direction of the yard and raises his shoulder in a silent question: "You want to go look?" .
Nov 7, 2022 8:02 am
Roald is still half awake when he hears a sound. It doesn't come from outside. He opens his eyes but lies still and tries to discover the sound's origin.
It's the dog
He sees Norbert's contour and waits for what's about to happen.

Nov 7, 2022 2:38 pm
Albert nods back silently, and stands up, curious to see what Norbert's dog noticed.

After taking a peek outside, he whispers to Norbert and Roald "I think that's Olaf. Off in the middle of the night. Middle of a storm? Must be to meet that contact."
Nov 7, 2022 2:42 pm
Roald is a bit torn between emotions.
Should they follow Olaf, betray his trust once more, but maybe come to his aid if need be?
Or just stay put and try to sort things out in the morning.

Whispering he tells his companions about his dilemma.
Nov 9, 2022 9:03 am
"Why would he go out in this weather at this time?" Norbert whispers back. "Maybe he needs help. ... I am going after him."

Norbert waits for Olaf to get a bit down the road, pulls his cloak over his head and is off in the rain. The dog is right on his heels.
Nov 9, 2022 9:10 am
"We can't let him go alone, Roald." Albert says, a bit reluctant. He buttons up his coat and follows after Norbert
Nov 9, 2022 9:32 am
Despite the wind and rain, it is not hard to follow Olaf's lantern through the cultivated forest around his house. He seems to be following a footpath that looks relatively new, but well-used.

On the western horizon ahead of you, the moon illuminates the clouds from behind, providing some light, but also blinding you a bit to the surroundings in other directions... expect for the brief flashes when lightning brings everything into stark relief.

How far ahead to you let Olaf get? If he leaves the path suddenly or extinguishes his lantern for some reason it might be hard to find him again. But if you follow too close and he notices you sneaking after him while he is sneaking out, it will almost definitely further damage your already tenuous relationship.

What do you do?
Nov 9, 2022 9:58 am
Roald too follows Norbert outside.
The raging winds make it hard for him to talk to the others.
'' Norbert, do you think your dog could follow his scent in this weather? That way we don't have to follow very close''
Nov 10, 2022 7:51 am
Norbert looks surprised at Roald: "I never asked her to do that before. The rain will not help either, if I remember the tales of the hunters well."

"I think it is better to follow him at a little distance. If we lose him we try the dog."

Norbert tries to keep his distance from Olaf, but still keep the lantern in sight.
Nov 10, 2022 12:43 pm
Norbert keeps low and close to the dog. He sneaks at a good distance behind Olaf. He would rather lose him than get noticed.

He also tries to keep an eye on where they are going so they don't come up to Olaf to suddenly, although Norbert doesn't think Olaf fears he would be followed.

You almost miss it when Olaf leaves the path and turns into the denser woods surrounding you, but a flash of lightning creates glowing orbs from the eyes of an owl who watches you as you pass, your attention drawn to the side at the last moment, you see Olaf's lantern as he pushes his way through the undergrowth.

It will be much harder to follow quietly through that, and you could have sworn this path was leading to the contact so it is strange he is suddenly veering off it...

Something you, yourself, said earlier nags at you: If he is going out to meet his contact... in a storm, in the middle of the night, after he just returned from seeing his contact a few hours ago... How was that arranged? Why would the contact know to be there at this time? You are fairly sure there are no houses in this part of the forest.

From out of the dark-after-the-lightning the owl watches you as you make up your minds what to do.

What do you do? Do you follow after Olaf or scout around to see what is happening and maybe find a quieter route?
Nov 11, 2022 5:18 pm
Norbert looks unsure to his companions: "If we go after him now there is a good chance he wil notice us. Maybe we better split up and try to sneak to wherever he is going? I don't think the dog will be able to follow the trail trough this thickets."
Nov 11, 2022 10:47 pm
Albert looks around. This thicker part of the woods doesn't seem to be letting in as much moonlight. "Uhm, to be honest, I'd rather stick together. I'm not sure I'd find my way back in this storm otherwise."
Nov 11, 2022 11:06 pm
"I'm with Albert on this one, heard too many stories about people getting separated in bad weather. Man I hope he isn't just going for a pee..."

Roald pulls on his collar and pushes on through the bushes.

how did we even get into this mess? ...

in the distance he sees what he thinks is Olaf's lantern, he gives Norbert a pat on the shoulder and points in that diretion.

" I think I so a light over there."

"We have to be very careful. Not knowing where and when he will stop could make us come up to him very sudden."

He looks the two city dwellers up and down and frowns. "When the dog stops, you stop."

Slowly he makes his way trough the undergrowth in the direction Roald has indicated. Trying to find the balance between moving slow enough to be silent and quick enough to avoid losing the Olaf.
Nov 12, 2022 9:23 pm
A flash of lightning blinds you again, and a squall of rain wipes away the scent trail for the dog, and you are left floundering around hoping you are still going in the correct direction. Then the dog stops, and its hackles raise a moment before you would otherwise have stepped into the clearing. In the center of the clearing stands a solitary oak tree. You seem to have stumbled off the path, but also to have gotten here ahead of Olaf, for you see him just now forcing his way out of the foliage partway round the circle and making his way noisily towards the tree... and towards the figure of a man you see leaning casually against the tree holding what looks like a large leaf above his head to ward off the rain.

You could move closer if you wanted to assure yourselves of overhearing what is being said, but you can suspect Olaf's voice will carry to where you are. Moving round in the surrounding trees and bushes will be difficult --you have been doing it for the past few minutes. There is clear ground between you and the oak tree meeting place, from your position you could try to sneak to the opposite side of the wide trunk, unless they walked around it you might be able to stay hidden there, but you would be completely exposed if they did look that way.

What do you do?
Nov 14, 2022 6:14 pm
"We need to know what's going on here." Albert says in a disgruntled voice. "I have half a mind to just waltz up there and demand answers." If nobody tells him otherwise, he might just go ahead and do it.
Nov 16, 2022 9:15 am
"Uhm,... we sneaked all this way, trough this weather, kept silent and out off sight, and now you want to just march up and yell at him? I am rather new to this adventuring, but I don't think you know how trust works." Norbert says trough his teeth with barely contained anger.

"I don't trust Olaf, but I know it will come to blows if you go out there now. So do what you need to, but if you enter the clearing you are on your own."

Norbert sits down behind a bush and wonders how such an impulsive man survived so long in this world.
Nov 16, 2022 10:27 am
''Norbert is right, Albert. We tried that before, remember? Didn't work out too well.
Let me try to get just a little bit closer so I can overhear the conversation.''

Roald starts removing his sword and other 'noisemakers', he takes some mud and blackens his face.
Slowly he crawls closer to the oak tree, trying to stay in the shadows. He doesn't want a flash of lightning exposing him.

Albert takes a minute to think about Norbert's words and calm down. "You're right. I'm just tired of being in the dark. Figuratively and literally." He says as he looks around at the dark, cold forest. "I'll keep myself under control."

"Very well, Roald. Go ahead." He nods at Roald and takes his gear from him and puts a hand on his shoulder. "May Raynor guide your way. We'll keep an eye out from here."

As Roald is about to leave, he adds. "For the record, if it does come to blows. I've got some pent-up anger that might come in handy. But I'll channel it in a positive way going forward."

- Roald -

As you enter the clearing there is a distinctively different smell --and it is not just the mud you smeared on your face. The fresh, piney scent gives way to a more earthy aroma, and you have to step over a ring of mushrooms halfway to the oak tree.

At that exact moment a flash of lightning illuminates the mushroom ring stark white, and you could swear Olaf's contact was looking directly at you --the whites of his eyes and teeth showing in a huge grin is startling-- but their conversation continues without interruption (nor even any boom of thunder to accompany that lightning).

"The mayor's daughter went missing late last night." You hear Nixon saying. (Or, you assume this is 'Nixon'.)

"What? I know that." Olaf says impatiently.

But Nixon continues as though he did not hear: "They say Clodomere's second youngest son had his eye on her all year."

"Yes, yes. I get that. I thought you meant the other baron, don't rub it in." Olaf tries to steer the conversation. "I want to know about these phony heroes you told me about." He demands.

"Oh, they were there." Nixon continues calmly. "They where amongst the last people to see the girl. They dined with the mayor and his daughter just before she vanished."

"Wait! What? You did not tell me that!" Olaf exclaims angrily.
It is very convenient that all these details are being mentioned just as you get in position to overhear them.

How hidden are you? Olaf's lantern has probably spoiled his night vision, but a single beam from that, or another flash of lightning could easily give you away.

What do you do?
Nov 22, 2022 7:35 pm
Roald overhears the conversation. He is very nervous, his heart pounds in his chest.
FLASH
was,... Was that guy looking at me? He freezes for just a moment, waiting for Nixon to yell out. But nothing happens.

I need to get behind the tree, way too easy to spot me here.

Very slowly he creeps on.
OOC:
Roald wants the tree between him and the other two. Not against the tree, just so it blocks line of sight.
Nov 22, 2022 7:48 pm
Norbert whispers in the dogs ear.
The dog crawls around the clearing, and arriving at the other side she darts away trough the undergrowth.

"Hopefully this will give that reckless guy a bit of time to get out of sight." Norbert thinks to himself.
Nov 22, 2022 7:56 pm
- Roald -

You find you had to get right up close to the tree before you could hear the spoke words over the wind and rain. But the two men don't seem to have noticed you. The further from the tree you are the less they need to move before parallax reveals you, but if they walk around the tree nothing will hide you in an open clearing anyway.
Nov 22, 2022 8:10 pm
Roald immediately sees (or hears) his error as he moves away from the tree.

damnit, this is not working...

He crawls back and sits with his back against the tree, knees folded before him, arms around his legs.

Please don't walk around the tree.....
Nov 23, 2022 12:53 pm
Albert keeps himself hidden near Norbert. Clenching his cheeks every time a lightning strike is about to possibly reveal Roald's position.
He whispers to Norbert. "What do we do if Roald gets spotted? We may have to charge in if he's in trouble. Perhaps we could prepare some sort of ambush?"
Nov 23, 2022 5:59 pm
"I believe that Nixon guy already knows we are here. And if not, we should try to avoid any confrontation." Whipers Norbert at Albert. "So I think we should stay quiet. Maybe the dogs gets their attention and if not, let us pray to Roalds god."

Noberts starts to wonder about the eagerness for a fight these guys are showing.
Nov 24, 2022 8:23 am
Albert realizes this isn't the time to start a discussion with Norbert. But if Roald gets into trouble, he won't be hiding in a bush and praying for him to get out alive.

He keeps an eye on what's going on at the oak tree.
Nov 24, 2022 8:25 am
Watching the men you don't think they will pose much of danger in a fight, but Olaf's temper may get the better of him forcing you into one and maybe hurting him --which would disappoint Olga (do you want to risk that?:).

While you can't be completely sure, you were able to see Olaf quite well over the course of the trip here, he was in the middle of a pool of light from his lantern. He did carry that same woodsman's axe/hatchet at the baron assault, though you did not see him actually use it as a weapon, he relied mainly on bluster.

Nixon does not look at all formidable. 'Rotund' and 'jolly' would the words that come to mind if you were asked to describe him. Frankly you are surprised he would be out here at night, alone, with no obvious weapons.
Nov 25, 2022 12:59 pm
"I only just found out." Nixon answers Olaf defensively, though how that timing makes sense you can't imagine.

Olaf looks unhappy, but before he can ask more questions there is a noise as though something large is charging through the underbrush over where Norbert sent the dog, and Olaf spins around in fright, takes a step back and trips. As he falls his hand holding the lantern goes through the glass and the lantern goes out, leaving the clearing in darkness.

You can hear Olaf scrabbling around on the ground, maybe trying to get the lantern relit, but, after a moment or two you hear muttered swearing.

"Nixon. Give me a hand." Olaf whispers, trying not to be heard by the 'beast' in the dark. "Nixon?" There is no reply.
Distracted as Olaf is, and blind after the lantern, it would be trivial for Roald to withdraw.

Do any of you think you know the way back? In the dark? Without Olaf and his lantern to guide you? The moon will set in less than half an hour, and it took longer than that to get here.

What do you do?
Nov 27, 2022 4:49 am
The rustling in the bushes and the noise Olaf makes as he falls down startles Roald.
He looks in Olaf's direction, but sees only a shadow in the dark.
A silent rustling now draws his attention, quickly he turns his head only to see a cloak disappear in the bush around the clearing.
''D..'' Just in time he suppresses a curse.

Idiot! .. now what?

Olaf is still struggling with his lantern...

Time to get back

Cautiously he returns to his companions and tells them the few things he's heard.

'' I don't know if I can find the way back guys, I think we better try to follow Olaf again. It will be hard in the dark but every step we take in the right direction is a bonus at this point.''
Nov 27, 2022 7:12 am
"What if we wait a little while and then pretend to have come looking for him?" Norbert asks. "We can't just leave him here, can we?"

Once the dog returns Norbert says: "I'm pretty sure the dog would find the way back.... almost sure."
Nov 27, 2022 10:41 am
"I kind of remember which way we came from. It was about that direction where we abandoned the path. But in the dark we could get turned around quickly." Albert adds to the conversation.

"I'm not sure how we would be looking for him without making ourselves more suspicious. We could say Olga asked us, but that lie would fall through as soon as we get back. I think the dog is our best bet."
Nov 27, 2022 12:34 pm
"If we say we saw him leave and became concerned that he stayed away so long and came to look for him, he will probably be grateful instead of suspicious."

"Where is he by the way?"
Nov 27, 2022 12:44 pm
"Nixon?" Olaf says again. "Have you got a light? Bring that umbrella over here. I have cut my hand up nicely... Nixon?"

But there is no answer. After one more try Olaf gives up. "I hope you got eaten, you bastard." He calls before you hear him pushing his way out though the bushes... in your direction which you are pretty sure is not the way he came in.

What do you do?
Nov 28, 2022 8:13 pm
"That's worth a shot." Albert replies to Norbert. "But I think it's best that it's you who does it. I'm pretty sure he won't be too happy to see me."

Albert hears the rustling of the long grass as Olaf makes his way towards them. "Oh crap, he's heading this way."
Nov 29, 2022 2:20 pm
Nobert turns around away from Olaf and yells his name at the top of his lungs :"Olaf... Oooooooolaaaaaaaaaaaaaf".

"Keep looking, dog. We must find him." He says even tough the dog is not yet back. Slow Norbert walks in another direction than were Olaf is coming from. Away from the other two men.

I hope wil be just happy to see someone. he thinks to himself.
Nov 29, 2022 9:39 pm
As he hears Norbert's call, Roald stops moving. That stupid shepherd, he is blowing our cover!''
But a few seconds later he understands what Norbert is trying to do.

Olaf is our best bet to get back to the house... Not so stupid after all...

A smile forms on his lips.

What a cunning little man, I'll just lie here for a while and pop out when I get my cue
Nov 29, 2022 10:49 pm
Albert is also hesitant to reveal himself. After what happened at dinner, it's doubtful that Olaf will welcome his presence. Best to stay hidden for now.
Nov 30, 2022 10:27 am

"'Scream'? No..." Olaf replies, trying to make his voice deeper as you continue. "Stay!? Here!?" He exclaims, then lowers his volume and looks around nervously. "There is something dangerous out there in the dark." He reminds you. "And anyway, I don't like this place. It gives me the willies."

He will need some convincing to stay here for the night. You get the feeling he is overconfident in his ability to walk home --which you are pretty sure is actually not in this direction, given how you came in-- and that challenging his 'manly, outdoors skills' might not go over well.

After retreating to the forest Roald waits for a while and tries to listen to the voices coming from the clearing.
Nothing...
The darkness of the forest, the rain and wind give him an anxious feeling.
This is long enough, is it? Or ... Just a little more... Or ...
He hears a strange sound coming from behind him, quickly he turns his head,... maybe it's his imagination playing tricks on him, but it certainly speeds up his decision.

Roald stands up from his crouched position.

''Norbert! Norbert! Where are you?!''

He keeps on shouting as he closes in, pretending he is lost.
Dec 4, 2022 10:46 am

That 'strange sound from behind you' sounded awfully like someone saying something --a word or two-- but you don't recognise the voice and there is no one there.

What did it say? Why does that try to cast doubt on any trust you have for Norbert?
Dec 4, 2022 5:47 pm
When there is no response, Roald stops and listens.
c'mon Norbert, say something...
Again he shouts: ''Nooorbeeeert!''
and there it is, in the corner of is eye, something moving. At the same time as he turns his head, he hears the sound a second time.
A faint slurring whisper: Traaaaitoooor

No, no,.. I'm just imagine voices, I need to get back
Roald is cold, wet and very tired. He starts sweating and has to shake off a shiver simultaneously.
Dec 7, 2022 6:56 am
"Over here!"

To Olaf he say with a mild smile: "I am glad they found us. I was getting afraid these city-dwellers would wander around here all night. Let's get out of the rain and get our bearings."

Once Roald gets to them he says: "Where is your companion? Did we spread out too much? This is no weather to be wandering alone. Could we get a small fire started?"
Dec 7, 2022 7:30 am
"You're here too?" Olaf says, starting to look suspicious again as Roald appears. "What are you doing out here? How did you find me?" He demands.
OOC:
Anyone should answer, and another roll may be called for, probably from Roald, but that will depend on what you do.
Dec 7, 2022 7:52 am
Roald stumbles upon Norbert. The faint whisper of the word traitor is still ringing in the back of his brain but he tries to shake it off.

'' Oh man, am I glad to see the two of you, I was worried I got lost for a moment.''
Roald turns to Olaf.
''What do you mean 'are you here too'? Of course I'm here ! I would never let a friend go out in the night alone! When Norbert's dog started growling in the night he woke us up. We saw you go out alone in the woods in the middle of a storm. And though you showed us the door, we still decided you might need some help and couldn't leave you in this weather by yourself.

Now can we PLEASE get out of the bloody rain!''

"Yes, let's get out of the rain." He agrees. "I am going home," he points in what you pretty sure is the wrong direction, "you are welcome to my barn till it blows over." That last part is a definite improvement since you would not have been at all surprised if he had rescinded that offer.

Albert pushes his way through the shrubs on the edge of the clearing, making sure everyone can hear him cough. "Roald, Norbert? Was that you guys shouting?" He coughs a bit again, clearly out of breath. Then he spots the 3 a bit further up near the oak tree. "I have your gear. It's pretty heavy and I didn't think we'd be going this deep into the woods."

"Ah Olaf, good to see you're alright. I think I saw some trees over where I came from that looked thick enough to offer some good shelter." He looks back at the edge of the forest. "Was hard to tell in the dark, though."
Dec 8, 2022 8:48 am
"Tree?!" Olaf says sounding a bit panicked at Albert's mention --maybe thinking you are referring to the location of his clandestine meeting.

Then he rallies and tries to deflect suspicion. "Why is everybody suddenly so worried about the rain?" He demands. "It was raining when you left the barn, but now suddenly it is a problem when we are going back?" His teeth are chattering a little from the cold, so there is some clear logic to the idea, but he is still scared of the monster out in the dark, even if he does not feel comfortable mentioning that now that there are four men standing around.

"I'm going home." He says, then as he stumbles over a root. "Where's that damn path! It should be just over there."

Albert looks around. We came from over that way, right? Or was it... Hmm... He thinks to himself, unsure of the exact direction.

''I'm sorry Olaf, but I don't think it's wise to try and find the path back in this storm. How long till the sun comes up? I believe we should take some shelter and sit this one out. If you insist on going back, we will come with you,... But please, take a minute to think it over.''
Dec 12, 2022 10:06 am
"The path? It's just over there." Olaf says confidently, trying to push his way through thick bushes one-handed.
Dec 14, 2022 7:07 am
"Well look who finally got here." Norbert says as the dog crawls out of the bushes. "I fear you won't be much you either in finding the way back home." he continues as he cuddles the dog.

"Looks like we are stuck here until the sun comes up again. I will try to sleep under that big tree there if anybody needs me" Norbert says to the group as he trotts of towards the tree.
Dec 14, 2022 11:36 am
Olaf stops and stares at Norbert for a moment, then turns to the other two. "Is he mad?" He as quietly, sounding genuinely concerned rather than accusatory. "I told him there was something big and dangerous out there in the dark." He shrugs and turns back towards 'home'. "I always said shepherds spend too much time outside, the brains leak out into the sky."

True to his word, he starts moving towards his presumed path --at first forgetting and reaching with injured hand, and filling the night with swearing. "Do what you want." He says, sounding angry again, unless it is the pain. "I have beer at home.".

Nothing you have said has persuaded him to stay out here in the rain all night. He is confident there is a path up ahead. What does Fate say?

Dec 14, 2022 10:01 pm
"Oh, don't get me wrong. I want to get somewhere dry and warm as soon as possible." Albert reassures Olaf. "I'm just having a hard time in these dense woods in the dark."

- Albert -

Olaf seems a bit mollified by your excuse of 'personal weakness', and is prepared to wait a few moments for the others to catch up if they want.

"What? No. I just heard it right now, before..." He slows to think. "...before it attacked me and knocked me over. That's how I cut my hand." He explains.
Dec 15, 2022 9:44 am
In the dark it is impossible to see Roald's annoyed expression.
He follows in silence, hoping for the best.
Dec 15, 2022 9:48 am
"I will say 'I told you so' in the morning when we are wet and lost." Norbert grumbles as he gets up to follow the group.

"Let's stay close together in case that creature is still around."
Dec 15, 2022 11:33 am
Olaf grunts in acknowledgement, then squints left and right down the path. Neither direction heads towards where you think his home is, but paths are know to meander. After no time at all Olaf turns left and starts walking as quickly as the dark and slippery path allows.

The moon has set while you talked, and the sky is a uniform grey. At least the rain has stopped. Those of you who have spent much time outdoors know that, if the cloud cover lifts, the temperature will drop precipitously, and, as the famous saying goes: "it is always coldest right before the dawn". If you can't get dry before then, you may be in danger.

But, if Olaf is right, a warm barn lays in wait at the end of his path...
"It should be just around that corner." Olaf say --not for the first time-- after more than an hour of walking.

Even with the added slowness due to the lack of light you should have been getting close, or at least have recognised something from your trip here. But did anyone think to look behind them on the way out? Each landmark looks different from the other side. Turning around now does not help much since you might have just missed something that would have been recognisable.

Olaf's mood has not improved. Does anyone feel like returning to the topic of stopping? It might be just around that corner.
Dec 15, 2022 12:04 pm
Roald walks behind Olaf, his morale dropping with every step. He is cold and wet and knows they are lost.
"stop, stop, Stop, STOP, STOOOOOOOOOOP!!! " I. HAVE. HAD. ENOUGH!!! " He cannot hide his anger any longer.
In a somewhat more normal volume but very direct and commanding tone he continues:
" There was a large tree about 30 meters back, we will stay there and wait for dawn. Norbert, Albert please help me find some dry material to start a fire, look inside the hollow parts of trees, or between the roots. In the morning we will find our way back."
He turns to Olaf:
"And for you: either you admit you are lost and hurt, and you are welcome to stay with us, or you can carry on on your own, and have a good chance of dying and being eaten by wolves."

Without waiting for a reply, Roald walks towards the big tree and starts looking for kindling.
Dec 15, 2022 10:10 pm
Albert is caught off guard by Roald's shouting. He honestly can't argue with the logic, but this isn't helping the situation.

"Roald, please. Wait a second." he turns to speak to his friend who is walking away. "I get that you're upset. It's been a long night for all of us. But this isn't the time to split up. That would make our chance to all get back safely even worse."

Then he turns back to Olaf. "I'm afraid Roald has a point, Olaf. We've been walking for over an hour and I don't see any sign of civilization nearby. I know you know these woods best, but with the moon gone it'll be near impossible to find the way." he gestures towards the direction of the big tree that Roald was talking about.

"Let's try and warm up a bit at least. If you still want to walk on after that, by all means. I'd also like to take a look at your hand. I might be able to ease the pain. What do you say?" Albert is using the most friendly voice he can muster right now.

"It's cold, and wet." Olaf says, rubbing his hands and arms to 'warm' them. He stops to watch Roald gather wood, but his expression is dubious. You get the impression that unless you are able to get a fire going Olaf will decide against staying, but the fact that he even stopped means he probably also thinks you are lost --though he is not admitting it yet.
Dec 16, 2022 8:35 am
Having spent most of the last tree years outside, Norberts is very quick to find a bit of dry material and a big mushroom to start his fire.
He clears a small spot on the ground with his foot, builds a little pyre and uses his flint striker and prays for a good spark.

Norbert's clever kindling catches fire and smoke billows from the pile. The driest twigs and small branches catch, but there is very little wood that has not been wet by the heavy rains, in order to dry out enough wood for later you will need to stack it around the fire, stealing much of the heat it generates.

Until you can get to using that dried wood there is a lot of smoke and Olaf grunts disapprovingly as he states at the campsite that has been made. It is not yet pleasant and the wind seems to blow the smoke right at anyone who tries to come near.

Given time this could be quite cheery, but right now it is just more miserable.

What do you do?
Dec 17, 2022 5:17 pm
"Nice job, Norbert. I didn't think you'd get a fire going this quickly with the rain." Albert compliments Norbert's skills as they stand near the fire. He coughs a bit as the smoke hits his face.

The heat from the fire on his skin instantly reminds Albert of Raynor's presence, making him feel just a little bit warmer. "Say, Olaf, mind if I have a look at your hand? I'm no barber-surgeon, but I have a bit of medical experience." This might give Norbert some more time to get the fire roaring, before Olaf loses his patience.
Dec 17, 2022 5:31 pm
- Albert -

You can see Olaf's first instinct to say 'it's nothing' warring with his pain, but he grudgingly agrees. "It's nothing much." He says stoically as he shows you his hand. "It's mostly gone numb now anyway."

It should be easy to light a torch from the fire if you want enough light to see properly --though your lack of actual training means you might not actually need to see at all to do what you do.

The water running down and dripping off his elbow is tinted dark with blood, the wet has stopped the wound from clotting and it is still slowly oozing blood. The glass of his lantern cut into the webbing between his thumb and the rest of his hand, across his palm and down to his wrist.

What do you do?
Dec 17, 2022 6:09 pm
Albert takes a look at Olaf's wound by the light of a torch, after checking with Norbert. He wouldn't want to ruin the still small fire.

Even though he's no doctor, he's smart enough to know that blood is bad. "Hmm, how did you manage to do that?" He asks. After Olaf's answer, he checks for any pieces of glass that may still be inside the flesh. If there are any, those would have to come out before he tries anything else.

It looks like the rain and the blood have washed out any glass and soot from the lantern. Olaf flinches at your poking around, but takes it like a man.

There does not appear to be any impediment to your healing.
Dec 17, 2022 6:29 pm
"Hmm, no glass or soot in there. That's good." Albert looks up at the piece of sky he can see between 2 tree branches. "Looks like this rain has some positive properties as well." He smiles a bit. Perhaps this is no coincidence

"You're a religious man, right, Olaf?" Albert says after seeing that the wound is clean enough. "I think a prayer is in order. You know, for good luck. Do you happen to know Raynor's light will guide my way?"
Whether or not Olaf knows the words, and if he does not object, Albert will recite the psalm calmly, with his eyes closed. In his mind he tries to reach out to Raynor to gain his blessings and his healing powers in order to help Olaf.

Olaf grumbles a bit at the mention of religiousity, and does not join in the recitation. His eyes go wide as Raynor's fire infuses his hand. "Warm!" He says wonderingly.

He holds his hand out for everyone to see as he opens and closes it without pain. He still has a gash on his hand, but, in this dim light, anyone could be mistaken into thinking it was a week old.

"Thanks... I suppose... He says grudgingly, not meeting your eye.
Dec 19, 2022 1:04 pm
Despite his anger and irritation, Roald finds himself smiling as he watches his friend perform the ritual he so often saw before. He is glad Albert has found his faith back.

Well done Albert,... Well done
Dec 20, 2022 8:06 pm
Norbert is very amazed by this show of power. Nobody seems to mind it, so he suppresses his reaction run away screaming "magic!".

He will be keeping an eye on Albert and maybe carefully ask Olaf about the experience.

After a few hours af sleep.
Dec 20, 2022 8:20 pm
The fire is just enough to take the worst of the chill off and dry your clothes enough that you don't freeze, but no one gets any sleep --what with needing to keep it fed and shuffling around to avoid the smoke, and, as soon as it is light enough, everyone is keen to get moving.

"Where the heck are we?" Olaf exclaims as you crest a hill and see your surroundings. "We must have gotten turned around in the night." He says, placing blame on everyone and ignoring the fact that he was the one leading the way.

Norbert: You are fairly sure you recognise the area, and that you are a lot closer to the village than to Olaf's house. Hungry and cold as everyone is, it would not be hard to make the case for going to town to get a bite and warm up on your way there. Or, with the village's position as a landmark, Olaf should have no trouble finding home either.

What do you do?
Dec 22, 2022 9:43 pm
Albert looks around trying to spot anything that looks familiar, but everything looks so much different now that the sun is up. "Yes, I'm afraid so. How's that hand? Still giving you trouble?"
After concluding he also doesn't know the way, he offers "Maybe we should try to find the clearing again. You know the way from that spot, right?"
Dec 22, 2022 9:58 pm
"Clearing?!" Olaf exclaims in surpris before trying to change the subject. "No, no. I know where we are." He says desperately looking around to get his bearings. "Oh, yes. This is Magraken's land. We can follow that stream to the bridge and then the road leads almost past the village --" he peers of into the distance, "--you can see the smoke on the horizon over there, how people can live in that, I don't just know."

He looks down at his hand. "I had forgotten all about it." He admits, sounding impressed and a bit interested. "'Ray nor', you say? I never thought to follow a 'healing' god, but that was..." He is at a loss for words.
Dec 23, 2022 11:45 am
''Well... If we walk almost passed the village, we might as well walk through the village and get a nice hot meal in a nice hot room with a nice hot blazing fire.''

There might also be some nice hot waitresses...

Thinking about this instantly lightens Roald's mood
Dec 23, 2022 1:27 pm
"I really should get back to the missus." Olaf says, though the mention of all those sorts of hot things --along with those not mentioned-- are clearly tempting him and you don't think it would take much to persuade him otherwise. He can now claim to his wife that he 'tried to talk you out of it'.
Dec 23, 2022 5:47 pm
"I would not mind going back to your farm, Olaf. If we can dry our stuff in the house that is." Norbert says with a small voice. "My family does not really know I started the adventuring life and we could run into one of my brothers." he admits.
Dec 23, 2022 6:19 pm
"Hmm..." Olaf mutters at the mention of your going into the house he threw you out of, then he looks down at his hand and seems to have a change of heart. "Yeah, yeah. Whatever. If Olga says its OK, and so long as you don't make a mess."

Whatever you guys decide, it does not look like Olaf will argue.

The village is not exactly on this path, you will need to detour a little bit to get there.
Dec 23, 2022 10:07 pm
"Hmm, looks like Norbert need some time away from the village." Albert says privately to Roald "I know how much you'd love a warm tavern right now, but I think we owe him this for getting us to Olaf in the middle of the night. And we might actually be able to talk frankly about the barons."

''You're probably right Albert, but I must say that there is something strange about him. I'm still not sure if I trust him completely. I mean, what do we actually know about him, he's a loner and doesn't always make group decisions...''
Roald stops talking as he notices Norbert getting closer.
Dec 27, 2022 12:38 pm
Norbert approaches the two men "Uhm,..., I am sorry, but if one of my brothers sees me here he will make me go home. And I am never getting away from this life if I turn back now. I never thought we would come back to the village so quickly."
He breathes deeply. "I also never thought that I would be attacking a barons stronghold on the first day, but I believe you guys were just as surprised there. I hope we will get answers when we find the right baron."

"Do you think we can just walk up to his castle or do we need to convince Olaf to form a new army? I'm not sure they are up to more fighting, I am not sure I am." Norbert ads with an uncomfortable smile.
Dec 31, 2022 12:38 am
"If you'd rather not go to town, then let's not, Norbert" Albert says with a smile.
"As for talking to the baron, let's see what (if any) information we can get from Olaf first. With us helping him out last night he might be more inclined to speak."

He then turns and talks to Olaf again. "Very well. Let's head back to the farm then. I'm sure Olga is worried sick about you."
Dec 31, 2022 2:54 am
At the mention of Olga, Olaf looks worried, and his mind is clearly whirring as he tries to come up with excuses to give her. He is dragging his feet a little, so it takes nearly two hours to get home.

Your damp clothes cling to your bodies in unpleasant ways --though they are now a little cleaner-- and you are all tired, from the stress of adventure and the mostly-sleepless night, when you arrive at Olaf's. Well before you see the farmstead you can hear his children screaming and shouting, Olaf's proud smile indicates that this is normal, and you soon crest a hill and see them running around the garden, whacking each other with sticks that are probably meant to be swords.

There is no sign of your companions that you left here, though how they could still be sleeping with all that racket, you can't tell.

There is a small tendril of smoke from the chimney, so Olga is presumably making food. Olaf's stomach growls loudly as he strides towards the kitchen door.

What do you do?
Dec 31, 2022 8:27 am
Roald follows Olaf inside. He doesn't speak and waits for Olaf to do the talking.
Jan 2, 2023 8:32 am
Albert checks the barn to see if the others are still there, and to make sure his stuff has not been stolen.
OOC:
If his stuff is there, but no people, he will also join Roald and Olaf.
Jan 2, 2023 8:54 am
Albert, Neither your friends nor your stuff is in the barn. There are obvious signs that people slept there, but no sign of any struggle or sudden leaving.

One of the kids --your would guess about four years old-- runs over and brandishes a stick-sword at you. "Aunty Nicki took your friends away after breakfast." They say. "Now FIGHT ME!"
Back in the kitchen, Olaf stammers excuses --blaming you guys-- but Olga merely shakes her head in exasperation and ignores him.

"Your friends went back to town a little while ago." She says with a note of disapproval in her voice.

"I did not know you were coming back." She says, presumably talking to you and not to her husband. "Or I would have kept breakfast for you. There is bread and honey and apples." She adds, though you notice that the honey pot is getting empty and there are not many apples left in the pantry. An unwashed pot that contained porridge --presumably breakfast-- has been scraped clean of food.
Jan 2, 2023 9:44 am
"Fight you, huh?" Albert grins as he plays along with the kid. "Well, only if you tell me where your aunty Nicki is hiding!"
He looks down at his coat and notices a small stick that got stuck in his pocket while pushing through the bushes earlier. Albert grabs it and points it at the kid. "Aha! Have at thee!"

"We are not allowed to talk about that." The kid says gravely... not that that seems to deter them, though and they carry on talking. "Stephan followed them one night and says they 'dance around in the altogether'. But I don't know where 'the altogether' is. Why's your sword so small?"
Jan 2, 2023 3:59 pm
Albert can't help but let out a bit of a chuckle at the mention of 'the altogether'. "Ah yes. I'm sure you'll be able to go there once you're a bit older." He says lightheartedly.

"Ah, well I didn't know I was going to be in a sword fight. So I only brought my dagger with me. Let's see how well you've been practicing, then." He takes a few minutes to play swordfighter with the kid before announcing that he has to go and see Olaf. "You were a worthy opponent, sir!"

"I thought you were a hero." The child says accusingly. "Aren't you always doing sword-fights?" That is the only bit they have been emulating.

'' Oh, that is very generous, but I'm really not that hungry.''
Though Roald's stomach is growling he can't take the last food in the house. He will make up for the lost meals when they get to town. He might even have something left in his backpack.

He has a feeling that Olga needs some alone time with Olaf. Probably to yell at him.
He yawns extensively
'' Is it ok if we take a quick nap in the stable?''
OOC:
I guess this won't be a problem. Roald retreats and if his backpack is still there he will look if there is some food in it.
Afterwards he tries to get a few hours of sleep.
If he crosses Albert he'll tell him about the empty pantry.
Jan 3, 2023 9:54 am
- Roald -

"What?" Olaf sounds surprised that you claim not to be hungry, but he does not argue. "More for me I guess." He shrugs. If he is aware of the food shortage, he does not show it.

When you ask for a place to take a nap he grudgingly agrees. "Yeah, OK." He says. "I will take a nap myself if I can get a moment's quiet."
Jan 4, 2023 11:21 am
"Haha. I wouldn't be alive if all I did were sword fights, Timmy." Albert pats the little guy on the head. "No, no. A hero should be helping people where help is needed. Whether this is fighting a dragon, or saving a cat stuck in a tree." He smiles. "Keep that in mind and become a hero too."

He then turns to go and see where Norbert and Roald are. And to figure out who has his stuff.
Jan 5, 2023 5:21 am
You bunk down in the hay again for a nap. It is hard to get to sleep with the noise of the kids' continuous battles outside, and your dreams are invaded by the clash of arms. Eventually your dreams quiet for a while:

You are talking happily with Nixon, his large belly wobbles as he laughs along with whatever you are saying; nothing could go wrong with his jollity around... but then --in typical dream logic-- you are somewhere else, the rain dripping from the trees is warm... and red, the light of the full moon making it appear black; Nixon is still laughing, but something has changed in his demeanour... and his appearance. You struggle to focus on what is different and decide it is the antlers growing from his head... and the blood running from his too-wide mirthful-grin and oversharp-teeth.

The Nixon-apparition raises an axe and brings it down on your head...

The sound of Olaf's axe outside wakes you. He is splitting firewood. You are sure you had a strange dream, but all the details slip away...
Jan 5, 2023 7:58 am
Norbert overheard Albert talk to the young kids about being a hero. The last two days shook his world more than he could have imagined, ever. He is glad he falls asleep very fast because he could lie awake and think for days.

Waking up with a start he looks around and is relieved to see the dog. While he cuddles the dog he slowly touches his face and skull to make sure it is still in one piece.

Norbert gets up and goes over to Olaf. "Can I help with that? Your hand must still be smarting from yesterday."
Jan 5, 2023 8:06 am
- Norbert -

"Oh, you guys are still here?" Olaf says, not sounding surprised or upset.

"Sure, if you want." He dismisses the talk about his injury, he hands over the axe, wipes his sweating face with a rag and walks away to get a drink of water from the other side of the yard. There is a very large pile of wood waiting to be split, it is more than you could ever finish. How much of it do you get through?
Jan 5, 2023 5:37 pm
Albert wakes up sweaty, despite the cold temperature in the barn. What was that dream about? He wonders. None of that made sense. What was it about again? A werewolf? He decides to let it go and move on. The sound of talking outside, and the chopping of wood makes him get up and see what's going on.

He walks out of the barn and see the others in the yard. "What time is it?" He heads towards the well to grab a bucket to freshen up a bit.
OOC:
If there's no well, then any kind of clean-ish water around
Jan 5, 2023 5:50 pm
Roald wakes up confused and famished. His stomach growls as he wipes the hay of his clothes.
Nixon... They should get some more information about Nixon. Why did this pop-up in his mind?

''I can't think on an empty stomach''
He squints his eyes when he steps through the barn door.
At least he doesn't feel as tired as a few hours ago.

He watches Olaf and Norbert for a moment.
'' Say, Olaf... What do you think about going for a short hunting trip in the forest. Maybe we can catch a rabbit or some squirrels?''
Jan 6, 2023 4:38 am
- Albert -

• What time is it? You arrived sometime mid-morning. How long did you sleep for?

Olaf has wondered over to the pump --leaving Norbert to split wood. He shows a new level of respect for you as he pumps clean water for your ablutions.

What do you do?
Jan 6, 2023 4:39 am
- Roald -

"Sure...?" Olaf says hesitantly, it does not sound like is all that enthused about the effort of going hunting (it might occur to you that Norbert seemed quite competent with outdoorsy stuff). "We can decide after eating." He suggests --possibly hoping you will have forgotten on a full stomach.

"There is food inside." He declares, again sounding unconcerned about the situation and looking well fed.

What do you do?
Jan 6, 2023 12:46 pm
"You know it's poaching and not hunting if we do it." Norbert says with a big smile as he sets a new log on the block. He has a lot of pent up stress and is glad te be able to express it to these pieces of wood.
After he is sure his pile is enough for about three days he builds it into a neat stack and joins the rest for dinner.
Jan 6, 2023 12:57 pm
- Norbert -

"Says who?" Olaf asks belligerently. It is not clear if your words are a challenge and make him more likely to go hunting or make him worried that you feel yourself some sort of 'enforcer' looking for an admision. You know the barons are very erratic about such rules, mostly ignoring them but sometimes enforcing them ... to death.
Jan 6, 2023 3:42 pm
"I'm pretty sure the baron has other stuff on his mind, but he used to be very strict about other people killing his animals." Norbert starts of lighthearted. But then his expressions turns a little darker. "Then again, if I were hil I would be a lot more protective in the next few months. I meant it as a joke, but maybe we should be carefull if we go out hunting."
Jan 6, 2023 3:54 pm
"Why? Oh, right. yes." Olaf says. "Do you think we can explain that we though he was the other baron?" It sounds like he has been trying not to think about this. "No one died, right?"
Jan 8, 2023 7:55 am
"Oh god I hope so!" Norbert exclaims. He also has not been thinking about it enough? "Maybe talking to the baron is not a bad idea. Both of them. If they learn who was involved in the attack they will probably seek retribution."

Looking at the two companions he ask: "But who should we talk to first, we have squandered almost a whole day. I would prefer the other baron, there is still a girl to be rescued."
Jan 8, 2023 8:10 am
Roald overheard last night that the girl in question is apparently the mayor's daughter. But Olaf does not know that his secret meeting was overheard. Also in that overheard conversation was mention even more reasons for Olaf to distrust you all, but the events of last night --and significantly the miraculous healing-- have put such suspicions out if his mind... for now.
OOC:
Roald: Did you share this information with the others? There was time alone in the barn. Feel free to flash back to that conversation if needed.
"Oh, yeah. Her." Olaf says. "The clodo-baron is way over on the other side of the valley." He complains. "There are farmers over there who don't really like me." He tries to sound like he is not care bothered by this fact. "So I really shouldn't go with. It would not help your situation at all."
Jan 8, 2023 10:25 pm
"It sounds smart to go and see the far baron first." Albert chimes in. He thanks Olaf for the water as he splashes it in his face. "With some luck we will find an opportunity to rescue the girl. And it will give the baron here some time to cool down after the assault."
Jan 9, 2023 2:06 pm
Roald pretends to overthink the situation. But he already made up his mind that the other baron is the way to go.

''hmmm ... Yes Albert let's go see the other baron. Maybe this time we can do some actual talking. ''
The tone of his voice makes it clear this remark is a joke and not at all an attempt to insult Olaf.

'' Haha, maybe we can even stop by the village too.''
Jan 9, 2023 2:17 pm
"You going to see the baron?" Olaf confirms. "Good, good. Maybe don't mention me." He adds, possibly because of the whole mistake with the near baron, but also maybe for another reason related to his indication that 'people over there don't like him'.

He happily gives you directions, which --possibly irritatingly-- take you back along the path you just took to get here. This also means you are going fairly close to the village, though you doubt there will be time to go there and get to the baron today unless you are very quick about everything.

Olaf looks pleased with the pile of fire-wood. "You want to eat first?" He asks with all sorts of undertones (your refusal to eat before sleeping --while obviously hungry-- has left him intrigued by whether there are even more miracles at work with 'adventurers').

What do you do?
Jan 12, 2023 8:28 am
The thought of food makes Roald's stomach growl again. He looks around to see if anyone heard it,... They have.

''Yes please, I mean if you can spare some''
Jan 12, 2023 8:36 am
"Hmm, yes, that would be much appreciated. I had some old bread in my backpack but it seems to have been taken away. I'm guessing Theo took it with him." Albert replies.
Jan 12, 2023 8:40 am
"Of course." Olaf says inviting you all back into his house.

Olaf did not seem concerned before about his food situation, but when you enter the kitchen you see that there is enough. There is a large ham, eggs, and an apple pie --though the number of apples in the pantry has not gone down-- in addition to a bit of the simple bread that was baked this morning. Pretty much enough to feed the family and the extra three guests.

What do you do?
Jan 12, 2023 10:05 am
"Thank you very much. I am happy to join." Norbert says to Olaf.

to Albert: "It will be very tight to get your things from Theo and still make it to the baron before dark. And if he wants to join it will take even longer. I wonder about the conversation he and his father had this morning."

I might even risk going to town for that.
Jan 12, 2023 10:15 am
"Well, according to little Timmy, they went with Aunt Nicki. Though I don't know who that is or where they live." Albert says to Norbert. "Olaf, does Aunt Nicki live nearby?"

"Without my stuff, I don't feel comfortable traveling all the way to the baron and back, to be honest."

Still a bit unsure about whether or not these people have food to spare, Albert only takes as much as he needs to get on the road. Two slices of bread with something on it will be enough to last him till dinner time.

''I wouldn't mind a stop in the village. If it's possible we can even check on Asha''
Jan 12, 2023 10:36 am
A strained silence descends on the previously chattering household at the mention of 'Aunt Nicki'.

'Timmy' shrinks in guilty shame, and Olaf glares at Albert angrily. "I will not have that woman's named spoken in this house!" He declares.

Olga sighs at his posturing. "Was Nicki here?" She asks casually while cutting slices for everyone from the ham and manning the frying eggs at the same time --though you can hear the lie in her voice. "I did not see her." Olaf turns his disbelieving glare on her, though they flick suspiciously to the food.

'Timmy' says nothing, hoping his part in this will not be mentioned.

Clearly you have touched on a sore-point.

What do you do?

Albert, reading the situation, decides to look confused. "Huh? Aunt Nicki? No, no. I said fat Micky. Sorry, I had my mouth full of food before. Do you know fat Micky? I met him in the tavern once." Good thing he didn't hear what I said to Norbert.

Both Olga and Timmy look at you thankfully. "Fat cow, more like it." Olaf says in a pretend-quiet voice that everyone hears but does not acknowledge. "Oh, yes. I know 'fat Micky'." Olaf agrees. "... but not from a tavern."

The fight seems to be over, but there is a brittle detente at the table. "Have some eggs, dear." Olga says, plonking plate before you. Despite the tense distraction she has cooked them to perfection.

"Ah, well if you see him. Tell him Albert says hi. That is if he even remembers me." Albert lets out a chuckle to lighten the tension in the room.

"Thank you so much, Olga." He gladly accepts the eggs.

After eating, Albert offers to help clean up, so he can have a moment to ask Olga where Nicki lives privately.

"Nicki? She lives in the deep forests somewhere." Olga whispers to you as you help wash up. "But I don't understand why you are asking about her. I really have not seen her since last moon." She looks around furtively as though she has said more than she should. Olaf is not looking your way, but she still ducks her head and focuses on finishing the work.

Do you push her for details?
Jan 14, 2023 7:36 pm
"Ah, I see. Well in that case it probably wasn't her after all. Thank you again for the meal, Olga. It was lovely." Albert leaves it at that, though still wondering where his backpack might be right now. Hopefully they're taking good care of it.

He rejoins the others at the table.

Norbert is getting itchy with all this sitting around. "Thank you very much for your hospitality Olaf, mam (he nods at Olga), but I am ready to get back into the fields." He gets up and looks at the older kids: "I'm going to give the dog a quick wash before we go to town. Who wants to help?"

He goes outside and takes the dog to the waterhole and starts combing the dog with his hands.

Most of the kids enthusiastically join you. Olga tries to plead that they 'don't get too wet', but gives up good-naturally --knowing that that is a lost cause-- it is warm outside so they will dry off before bed.

Roald isn't really paying attention to the conversation and is mostly focussed on eating. The food is great, a pint of ale would be nice but he is too polite to ask for something else then water. He overthinks the events of the past days, while eating in silence.
When he notices that his friends are getting ready to leave, he finishes his meal and joins them outside, he elaborately displays his gratitude to Olaf and Olga.

When there are none of the parents around Norbert asks the kid he thinks is Timmy: "What was all that stuff with aunt Nicki about? Suddenly everyone was tense..."

If he avoids the question Norbert will not press the issue.

'Timmy' is too scared of getting into trouble for talking out of turn again, and shrinks away when questioned. Seeing this, one of the older kids sighs and explains: "Daddy does not approve of Aunty Nicki. He says she is giving the other women 'ideas above their station'. She does not come around when daddy is here, else mommy and daddy end up fighting."
Jan 17, 2023 12:19 pm
"I think my dad would call her a witch." Norbert says with a big grin. "But one with only power that coms from words."

After some splashing and thowing water all around he calls the dog to him. "I believe he is clean enough to go to town again. The other will probably be waiting already." The dog clearly is not content with the sevice and shakes the water off just as Norbert gets to his knees to pet him. Norbert accepts the 'punishment' with grace and even slips him a small piece of sausage he nicked from the table.

Then he goes over to the men and prepares himself to get going again.

The kids all giggle and hide their faces at the scandal of calling Nicki a 'witch'. "What makes you say her power only comes from words." The oldest asks barely stifling the giggles.

When Norbert returns, Albert is ready to leave. Using his broom handle as a walking staff, he's good to hit the road. He thanks both Olaf and Olga for their hospitality and heads out when the others are ready as well. "May Raynor bless this household." are his parting words.

"Really?" Olaf asks, sounding eager and interested in what such a blessing might mean for his household.

Olga looks confused by this interaction and her husband's reaction to it. It is possible she is not pleased.

'' Let's get going! ''
Roald starts walking at a fast pace. But after a few steps he remembers Albert's condition and lets him dictate the pace.
OOC:
Roald is keen on going to the village but can easily be persuaded to go to the baron.

"I'm happy to be on the road again." Norbert sighs with relief after a few miles. "Maybe we can even get to the baron this evening if we can pick the pace up again." He adds when he notices the drop in their speed. "Unless you want to visit your compagnon who is still in town. But I got a little sense of urgency from that strange guy, last night."
Jan 23, 2023 9:33 am
Albert thinks for a second. "I agree, the sooner the better. However, what if we cannot find a place to spend the night there? After last night, I'd rather avoid coming back at night time if at all possible."

When Asha is mentioned, he too seems interested in checking up on her.
