Because I barely ever visit the homepage and therefore, it can be a full day or two until I notice an application.
The latest posts page is what I constantly F5 on and what is my homepage on my phone.
Not the most important change but it would be useful to me personally at least ?
I assume it would be the same for latest game posts for some people and the forums page for others, all depending on which of these people use to browse GP
Having it on the homepage is a good strategy, but if we have to choose just one, the Games page makes the most intuitive sense to me -- Games stuff goes there. The other would be a signal notification on your Profile avatar similar to having a new message, maybe a waving hand or something.
I visit the Games page basically never, unless I need to access a games detail page and there are no recent posts in that game to go through those. That would be one of the worst places to put it for me personally.
A notification on the avatar would probably be the best way to do it
I'm not often on the home or games page either, but like bowl said -- this showing up anywhere will be a huge improvement. I'd personally think the avatar is the best place for it, but I'd also be find with it literally just being a new PM as well.
I'm trying to respect the existing design choices with the small QoL changes - especially on the homepage.
The "You have 1 player pending..." message is already in the system and it's on the homepage. I'm just extending it to show another message. Who knows? Maybe the notification design metaphors will be completely different in v2. Perhaps a set of notification icons in the header would be good for v2. I certainly like the idea.
It's interesting to me how little the power users seem to even visit the homepage, and I wonder whether it's worth inviting some more new users to help with these sorts of requirements.
Maybe it would make sense to ask around and gather a bunch of people who use the site through different ways. When I was new on GP, I used to always browse through the Forums page. I think some people exclusively rely on email notifications.
I don't want us to come up with some change that's awesome for all of us but completely screws over anyone who accesses GP from a different angle
I usually use the home page to get a taste of what's going on and then probably look through the forums. It's not easy to say really. If you ask me, the main page should be a bit of everything - I also see what new games are created from time to time, but that's just me.
As for a notifications header/icon, better wait for v2; might as well bring in more options.
To sum it up; I use the homepage and I'd like to see it getting to center stage.
I actually do use the homepage a lot, visiting it multiple times per day:
- to see the list of new games created by the community
- quick links to latest posts and latest game posts
- to check for notifications of players pending to a gane
- to see the list of new games created by the community
I used to do this at first but now I rely only on the Games Tavern. Maybe it would make sense, when someone creates a game, to have a notification show up telling them that if it's a public game, they should make a post in the GT
Can we add "You have 1 Character awaiting approval in ..." for when players add characters to a game.
I would also (later and secondary) like to see these moved to the Profile avatar to be displayed like new PMs. That way this information is available from all screens.
